Just asking for your opinion guys.

I've been keeping myself rather up to date with reviews of FF13 (Both Jap and Eng)

When the Jap version came out, it was heavily criticized by the fans and also there was a dramatic price drop.

But then the review for Eng Version just came out by Gamespot ( http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/finalfantasy13/review.html ) and it got 8.5/10

How come this happen? Is there a difference between Eng and Jap version? Or is it just that the expectations from the Western world is just much lower compared to the Japs?

What about your opinion?

mostly the western was annoyed by vanille's voice acting

I can't say about the Jap guys' opinions, but perhaps exploration and a horribly annoying character's sound dropped the bomb on the westerners.

But its mostly the exploration. Everything is now very linear. heck, even FF XII was WAY MORE expansive.

Was it really given bad reviews from the japanese press though ?
IIRC the major japanese reviewers Famitsu (39/40) and Dengeki (duno but it was high i believe) gave it high reviews and praised it . This is in-line with most of the western reviews that are slowly surfacing . The bad "reviews" seem to be more from buyer comments from amazon.jp and poster comments from 2chan etc .

Crisis Core was linear but i like it.
Crisis Core battle system was different but i like it

perhaps the expectation was too high because of the LOOONNNG wait

its cause everybody was expecting a ff7's ff13.

everyone's mindset is poison by advent children and ff7 thats why ppl dont like what they did not get.

so the better version is:
FFXIII chinese version for those who understand chinese....

jp voice + chinese sub, best way

But I think the characters are kinda engaging though.... More emotions in it..

I duno bout FFXIII .. cuz I haven play it.. But duno why.. It fails to attract me when I first come across it.. Had a feeling that it "may" not be that great..

Eventhough sidequest is nice to have.. But whn it gets too hard.. It is kinda frustrating.. I dun like repeating it too many times or wait till the level of hardness decrease....

Added on March 8, 2010, 2:03 amI agree... lol.. Cloud, Sephiroth, tifa and aerith had make their presence a tad bit too strong for most of the people.. It became FF legend.. Eventhough its just normal hero vs villain plot.. XD

I duno.. But I feel more "soul" in them than other FF character... My opinion though..

Because everyone was so damn frustrated by Cloud who didn't jump in bed with Tifa despite her err...HUGE ASSETS. Everyone was just looking foward to sequel where Cloud will stop acting like a gay and do the RIGHT THING.

WTF? seriously? is he so over the moon for Sephiroth? oh my..

So, he is best friend with Zack and fell in love with him? reminds me of fanfiction with the letter "Y" in it..

haha... Atleast Zacks not that gay...and Sephiroth... When he get pretty evil.. very Kick ass!! But angeal and genesis are very gay... lol lol.. XD

But somehow... I duno.. I think the advertisement of FFXIII is quite fierce.. So, maybe the gamer review cannot like give it too low score? Well, at least the graphic is beautiful and its mainstream FF series... So have to give face abit.. Or maybe the western counterpart din expect "that" much from the JRPG? XD
