Sorry guys, I previously owned previous Sonata and test drove the new Sonata today. Despite being optimism that the new Sonata will improve over the previous generation, the new engine still lacks the torque compare to other competitive brand of cars out there. Features wise, not much changes. I still feel the same amount of power with my old Sonata, except the new Sonata looks more luxurious and fuel saver with 6 speed gear.

Good luck with those new Sonata owners. Wish you guys all the best and have fun driving the new car. smile.gif
*
Well i havent test driven it yet so wont comment on that. But going by the price itself (being too close to the Camry), the Sonata is losing out big time. Wrong move by Hyundai. Hope they dont repeat that mistake with the Avante next year.

Sales are really poor???? Are u sure or not. I just got my sonata few weeks ago. Very nice car to drive. No regret at all even though i have to wait 3 months. The waiting period is killing. That's why u see very rare sonata yf. Many buyers still hatching egg waiting their sonatas to be delivered. I heard new book will take much longer. 5-6 months.
*
Slow delivery is not a reflection of the actual sales. The production of a car is always suited to demand. If they only expect to sell 200 units a month that their production will probably be 50% of that since they have to think of long term demand and not just current. Thats why u get a lag in delivery period. Doesnt mean demand is that great until production cannot cope.

Bro, Im sure u wont regret for the waiting when the cars come. I waited for nearly 4months until nearly give up (going for camry). BUt everytime after i went back from the showroom (bang the SA) I will change my mind again. Its the company problem, not the car itself. Anyway, im getting it by this week. cheers. =)
*
Why not delay it for a few months and get a 2011 manufactured model? Ull be saving a few thousand in resale value.

I dont really look at resale value in buying cars. Thats not my priority, if not camry will be my choice now. Anyway, thanks for the advice ya, cybermaster. =)
*
Not asking u to change the brand. Am asking u to look into delaying the purchase till u get a 2011 unit. If you can save a few thousand on resale value by waiting about 3 months more, you wouldnt do it? U must be a very rich guy.

Tradeoff between getting the car late evening today(mebbe 2molo) or gain a few thousand bucks more in 5 years later. I choose the first one. lol. Im not a rich guyz la, enough to support the family only. Thanks for the compliment. =)
*
That's the reason why car companies continue to make sales with year end units. If everybody thought the way i did, car companies would be offering more discounts for year end purchases just like what happens in the US year after year. Consumer knowledge is very low in Malaysia.

http://www.motortrader.com.my/Cars/NewsHea...t---Models.aspx

Despite its official launch in July 2010, it only sold and registered 153 units in October. Total number of Sonata's sold since its launch is only 505. Compared to 925 units of the much older Toyota Camry sold in July alone and 9807 units sold since January 2010.

If only Hyundai had lowered the price more, im sure the Sonata would have done better.

Hmm looks like I do not have to wait any further..Nissan sales person had contacted me saying that my car have been allocated and can collect by next week..Hmm Hyundai almost 4 months but car not allocated and still asking me to wait..Nissan 2 weeks can get the car..I m wondering what is Hyundai Sime Darby doing..u are losing customers because of your unprofessional service..when u can't deliver do not promise people 3 months..I personally do not have problem with the car..Truthfully I prefer the Sonata more than the Teana but the wait was just unbearable..

Whats the interest rate like for both? Any freebies or promo's?

HEllo guys , is sonata worth to get?

how bout 2.4L those?

low resale value? sad.gif

really like this car but damn worry bout its quality and resale value like the previous hyundai models
*
Sonata resale will be low as usual because demand is low. Resale values are determined by demand. But those who buy the Sonata accept that the resale value will be low. Quality not sure. Only time will tell.

Juz collected the car last nite. The car is really awesome!! Can see that quite a number of people glance at my car. A malay guyz even praise and ask the price of the car in SHELL station. lol. I got 2.77% from cimb bank.
*
That's the case with any new launch from the main manufacturers. This month i heard that many manufacturers have dropped the bank interest rates. Kia is offering only 2.7% for the Forte now. Nasim is offering between 1.4 - 2.6% for their models.

Hello, i wonder how long for me to get the car if i book one unit now?
*
Deliveries always depend on the branch. Some branches with better 'connections' will get cars faster while others will get them later. Best is to always scout around for the best deals. Anyway, no point buying any car now. In about 3 weeks time your car will be 1 year old already.

Not sure la bro. U need to check with the various branches. It could be about 3 months. But booking in January doesnt mean ure getting a 2011 unit. U must make sure u get a 2011 manufactured unit which will normally come only around March or April.

Wah...does it make any difference? I tot as long as ita registered in 2011 is ok adi
*
Car age is determined by the YEAR OF MANUFACTURE not the registration date. So even if you register a car in March 2011 or November 2011, your car age is the same. If you register a 2010 model in January 2011, your car is already considered 1 year old at the time of purchase. Why do u think there are many year end sales.

If you wanna buy cars best time to purchase would be between March - Aug. Before March ure still stuck with the previous year model and after Aug its not worth buying due to the loss in resale value.

If ure selling then best time would be around Oct - Dec since u maximise usage before selling. But in December 2010 most car traders will already be taking in cars with 2011 pricing.

test drove the 2.0 HS version. everything is perfect. Can't comment much on the handling cuz camry is equally numb. But, hey... it's a comfy car and not a sporty car. at that price, this is the only car with traction control. Ppl like me, safety is important and the 5stars ncap certainly appetizing.
Only only if you can get over the poor resale value.. everything is perfect
Except for resale value everything is perfect? U obviously have not owned Korean before. Have u test driven other cars as well? biggrin.gif
But in saying that, Koreans have improved alot these past 2 years.

At that price, its the only car with traction control? Do u know what is traction control in the first place? Have u heard about the Electronic Stability Control on the 1.6L Forte? What about the VSC in the Civic?

For your info, traction control only controls wheel spin using brakes and a power cut off system if required. An ESC/VSC system does not deal with wheel spin, but total car control. The system not only monitors the wheels, but also your steering wheel, the pitch of your car to one side or another, acceleration and skidding.

So the ESC system on the Forte, Civic and many other cheaper cars is actually a better system on paper.

It is a fully imported car from korea. Personally i recommend you test drive the sonata to compare with other same sedan car(mebbe nissan teana?).  I feel relief because i did not change my mind to camry due to the long waiting period. Sonata yf is way way way better than the previous sonata in terms of performance, appearance and stability. I am a hyundai elantra owner previously, so i dare to say hyundai really improve tremendously in these few years. Its juz that the lousy distribution company and low resale value that become the obstacle to potential buyers. With this new sonata, seriously I never fail to get admirers when i go anyway. =)
*
So u have never owned a Toyota before eh? Your previous car was a Elantra? No wonder the Sonata feels like a Porsche for you la. biggrin.gif

Anyway, like i said before. Ull get the looks now for a few months since the car is new (as it is with every new car). Even the Alza got the looks when it was first launched. rclxms.gif

Anyway, since u already got the Sonata then just enjoy it. I rather wait for the replacement Camry.

how is the fit and finish in the car?

If u ask a Sonata owner surely he will sing praises of the car la. If u want some feedback on the Sonata go to the Nissan Teana thread. There are some comments there.

QUOTE(Mycypro @ Jan 4 2011, 06:01 AM)
FOR ALL CAR PURCHASERS IN MALAYSIA : Resale value wise, erm.....i never wanna think about it. Every after purchased a car, the value drops no matter what brand. Everyone of you could buy a motortrader magazine, find the 3 brands I mentioned above, see how much it dropped for how many years. Find the percentage, actually all are similar no matter what brand. But famous brand will get another few more thousands for no doubts. smile.gif
The difference is actually quite a lot. For ive given this example previously. Of course its 2 different car segments but this is just for discussion purposes:

Toyota Vios 1.5E model purchase price RM74,700. 2010 resale price is RM 45K (drop of 40%)
Hyundai Sonata 2.0L model purchase price approx Rm 118K. 2010 resale price is RM 28K (drop of 76%)

So its not a few thousand. The difference is only small if the car is between 1-4yrs old as most cars resale value drops about the same during that period. But after that, you will start seeing the difference.
