i had been playing games since nintendo 8-bit console (around 1990), my advice: try doing somethings else for some time, keep the consoles temporary in somewhere not easy to access. after sometimes, if you feel like want to play games again, take it out and play it, you will feel the different.

Quitting gaming has been on my head since +/- graduating from university actually. What used to be blissful (or reckless) gaming, regardless of time, cost or other people's opinion of gaming (or yourself), I now find myself questioning why I still game. I've been a lifetime gamer, starting from arcades, to PCs, going to other people's houses, eventually getting my own consoles. Yet the magic/passion was lost after sometime. You wonder if you're doing something wrong, or playing the wrong games. I try going back to those same games I used to obsess over, but it didn't do anything. Then I found it; there's no one to share it with.
Not having a console didn't stop me from playing before, because I had a friend beside me. Having to play nothing but the exact 3 games for a year didn't matter, because my siblings were also gamers. Talking about Street Fighter felt awesome, because there was someone to talk to. Now all my siblings and friends have moved on, while I remain. Gaming starts becoming tedious, like I'm supposed to keep playing as if it's a 2nd job. Gaming used to be entertainment for me, now it feels like a form of chore. And I hate talking about my supposed passion like this.
Some people used to ask me what was it about gaming that I like so much. I didn't answer them directly, just that I'm absolutely crazy about it. I used to think having friends was not that important, as long as I have my games. Guess I don't think so anymore.

Oh don't worry, we all have our own set of problems. Your thread actually happens to be one I've always thought of expressing. Some people probably treated gaming as a form of escapism, where they can forget life's difficulties (probably talking about myself here). If you start wondering whether you should quit gaming, maybe you DO have a valid argument to do so. As for me, I still enjoy talking about it to friends, in a kind of "remember when" story. I'm still fascinated by tech and trends in the videogame industry. Heck, I still thrown in game soundtracks (Yoko Shimomura FTW!) and get lost in the moment. It's just that I don't feel strongly about it as I did then (kind of like falling out of love? )So don't feel too sorry about my current state.

When I am in good mood for collecting video games I buy a lot (over buy). When I am out of the mood, I will slow down on buying and probably sell some of them. Late last night has this urge to kill zombies so poped in Deadrising and kill zombies for an hour before sleep. satisfaction I never thought of quitting video gaming, since its not something bad. Just slow down when overdosed.

Hmm, i have the same thinking sometimes. But i am an addict now. Even if i don't feel like it, I will still put in at least one hour of gaming and then call it a day. if i have the mood, i will play 4 -5 hrs daily. Sometimes, i don't even log in due to commitment in worklife and personal life and married life. BUT, gaming is a part of my life and has been since school time. It is a part that give me lots of nice memories. Which is why i love to play old school games, playing FFVII again and again for the umpteenth time, buying Tie Fighter PC and Full Throttle PC from eBay just to relive the moments, playing Dune 2000 on PC again, playing KOF94 - 2003 just to relive the story for each teams again etc etc. So, yeh, my take
