steam have issue with non-steam (retail) version
things i spoted:
1. the graphic flicker
2. The game wont exit properly sometime
3. i think it bypass wen ea search for update
4. After quit current session of game and then search for another game, the list wont appear

for alternative, the search bar at server browser is case sensitive, which mean if u r to find fragnetic server u nid to type "Fragnetics" not "fragnetics"

Are you using ATI? I'm using a 5870, before had a lot of flickering, long loading up to 30+ sec. what i did was install the current 10.4, do not let application control setting at your CCC. Put in your fav setting at config file.. wala! All maxed out setting cept i put x2 on MSAA.. i don't see any difference going higher.. soo meh 

Now, ave 85+ fps *fraps*  fov=80  and queue'd with 15 sec to countdown after loading.  Love'd 10.4
