Good morning everyone,

I have a favor to ask you all, can please help me to make decision? I can't decide whether to buy LCD or plasma (46"-50"). Most of the time will be used to watch astro and sometimes dvd, not me using buying for parents nia. If plasma will there be any burn in image especially the astro logo? Average usage is 8-10 hours daily nia...

Budget is 4-5k and I am deciding between Sony or Samsung. icon_question.gif

since no one answer, i'd prefer LCD than plasma.
LCD technology has been improved and good enough as compared to plasmas, longer lifetime and save cost.

for your case, i would recommend LCD not becos its better than Plasma but you need to be careful using Plasma and i'm gonna be bold to assume ur parents arent exactly into HT and i'm not sure if you can get them to understand how to prevent IR or burn in...

btw, since your apps only for Astro & DVD...any HD TV also can do...Sony is expensive..samsung should be more affordable...so, i'd go with Samsung.

I bought one for my parents too, LCD that is.
Do take some time to look at the remote control. The easier to use it, the better for the parents.

Thanks for the reply guys. Looks like lcd is the way to go.

Does samsung provide 5 years warranty? I know sony has the extended warranty but price abit on the high side.

New lcd series from sony can get bdp 360 if top up few hundred bucks, maybe good choice though hmm.gif

For me, I would choose Sharp’s LE700 series which would be better for old people with aging eye sight, with its bright back-lite LED array.

yeah, sharp has more natural color. But the LED is out of your budget maybe. And I dont think LED is good for older eyes, too bright maybe.

go for LCD if your parents don't want higher electricity cost. But you need to bring them to see the TV and compare. Some people like plasma while others like LCD. Different people different taste.

personally I have a friend using Sony, but if you read in this forum the problem occurs to almost all brand..
LCD is still new, maybe there's still a lot of room to improve the quality.

I am a Senior & I choose a Plasma 42".

In my opinion Plasma PQ for Astro is good & the colour is also natural.

I did not choose LCD because I feel the PQ for Astro is not so good as compare to Plasma. Also the colour is not natural, kind of artificial. Picture too sharp for my eyes, kind of like "cutting" my eyes. My eyes are not as good as when young. Touch wood they are ok with some floaters & slight cataract.

By the way I am not worry at all about IR/Burn-In for Plasma.

Thanks
