The phone price will be the same as it is being determined by Apple however the package/contract is up to the telco. The only place where they can fight would be package pricing, customer service, coverage, reliability etc..
see how it goes with DiGi, hope they can rollout 3G coverage in more places so the battlefield is much more leverage

Not really.

Even if controlled by Apple, telco itself still can absorb the cost like AT&T doing now. They sell only for 2-300 bucks cheap, but their package is far expensive, to cover the cost.

All depends on telco.

Let's wait and see smile.gif
*
True but actually its back to square one. It depends on the whole package. If its attractive enough to get customer onboard. On Apple side the price will be the same so its up to the telco to play the game. Well for me I got 3gs 32 so maybe if DiGi is good enough then I will jump onboard for the next iPhone release. My assumption is that DiGi will be stronger player in next 1 year when most of contract customer from Maxis have expired. Alot of iPhone freak got their dose on Maxis but I bet they are eager to see what DiGi can offer so they know where to jump when the time is right.
Knowing DiGi they normally can do better in term of offering only lacking in rollout (well they started late anyway but closing fast) but given time they will be the next powerhouse in Malaysian telco.
My only hope is that all contract should cover roaming and local. It's a waste not to be able to utilize all those so called free called when always roamed. Just do the normal roaming rate and deduct from the amount of RM available in the contract would suffice as at least it's utilized. Or some kind of bundle between call and data accumulated in RM and if it's not used locally then it can be deducted from all those roaming charges. See how DiGi play the game..I have both but my primary line is still with Maxis.

Hmmm still no news??? How much you guys think digi will sell the iphone to prepaid users?
*
For prepaid the impact might not be worthwhile since prepaid is almost like an outright purchase of the phone. Since the price in controlled by Apple pretty much and telco can't really absorb the cost to lower it pretty much thus it might not be interesting or maybe at the same par with Maxis.
For postpaid user the impact can be quite interesting since they will be tied to a contract that will provide constant revenue stream so they can absorb the cost alot bigger compared to prepaid.
Certain countries you can buy an outright without even the need to get a prepaid line so in a way saving you tiny bit of hassle to buy another line though its too tiny.
If you plan to get one for postpaid (no matter under whose name is it anyway or whose line etc) then better wait for DiGi to release and soon they will start the price war between two but for prepaid I doubt there will be any price war

Hehehe..just one comment Alviano. For people who are indeed rich they would not wait for iPhone 4.0. They will just grab 3gs 32GB and when the new one comes out then they wil just buy the new one.
Just my one cent smile.gif
I agree on your view in regards to the purchasing power. Alot of people still out of reach 3gs so they are expecting this price to come down soon when 4 being released smile.gif

Simple reason being if anyone is rich and they could buy anything they would have bought the iPhone after it was launched or sometime after it instead of waiting it towards end of life before buying one hence you could really enjoy owning one during the course of time.

Furthermore it was in my opinion that 3GS still have its own value even normal 3G because it pretty much depends on 4.0 as well. If it's not that enticing enough to justify the price for the phone alot of people would still buy 3gs as it would suffice right? As you said, alot of uncles will do their research on this and if the phone is released with massive adv, alot of nice upgrades but those uncles would not need for then they would just settle down with 3gs.
My conclusion is that 3gs will have it's own niche market somehow although 4.0 will be released. It's just that when someone say RM4000 is nothing in comparison to other country, then it's not at par comparison. smile.gif

Agreed. Not only marketing strategy but behind the scenes action as well. They need to test everything to make sure it's fully ready and not going to tell a certain date then put in hold on due to technical difficulties etc.

Yep, I still remember the other telco made others wait up to 45 days. Fortunately for me when I asked them to check my track record on how much I've been spending etc and I told them I want it then and there, straight away I can get it. In short basically they do have short stock in hand just in case for whose who perhaps.

Alot of things happened behind the scenes. To end user it's all about when ts gong to launch but to the back end there's alot of preparations and I'm pretty sure there are thousands of sleepless night. I know, been there before for one iPhone launch somewhere outside before.
To me there must be good reason for DiGi to put abit of time before the launch. Sometimes it's just a simple plain Murphy's Law so that also might cause the delay as well.
Whatever it is I'm very satisfied with DiGi in coming up with this as well. Hopefully both can be very competitive to benefit all of us. So far I'm not Maxis fanboy although I must admit I raked up alot every month but I do have DiGi as well. So far to me to have near good (not neat perfect) scenario you just need to have all 3 biggrin.gif

I would not hold my breath on Iphone 4G (does this mean it has wimax = 4G???)... as its still a rumored product....

And, seeing how Bolehland gets stocks of hyped products very slowly (see how long before we got iPhone and iPhone 3Gs compared to SG, and how even Nexus One is not avail here yet), i'd think iPhone 4G will be here arnd 6-9mths AFTER the rumored launch in June.... meaning early to mid 2011???
*
Thanks for your view. I will go for 3GS. Another question - should I go now (as pre-ordered) or later until it is fully opened to public...?
*
Don't think it would matter much except how long you need to wait when it's fully opened to public. Only question is time...

4G in sense 4th generation if I'm not mistaken. Capabilities still unknown

Added on April 2, 2010, 4:54 pmI forgot to ask them another question....

Anyone know how do we check the data usage balance or sms/mms balance ?
*
I can try to help on data and mms balance as both falls under data actually. For postpaid normally you can't check for the balance because all information are stored in database on a Customer Data Records and it will only be calculated at the end of the billing cycle. They will check that against your bucket and based on that the will billed you accordingly. It all depends on the system the telco have but all around the world normally for postpaid they won't do realtime calculation
SMS will most probably use almost the same mechanism normally. What you can do is maybe get some app (if I'm not mistaken they do have some apps that can keep track of these counters precisely in a way) since I heard that the iPhone counters not reliable although to me it is so far.

Cool. Same here as well. MP3 alone put me in at nearly 12GB. Not counting those MP4 and other documents. How I glad to get a 32GB instead of 16GB smile.gif Now more than 20GB used and still counting wink.gif

Wondering whether i should get the 3gs or maybe wait for the 4g to come out first.. because if i get the 3gs now and 4g comes to malaysia by year end, then i'll be making losses i guess.. because at that time 3gs price will drop for sure.. Any idea whether 4g will be coming to malaysia when its released?
*
Depends on user perspective. For me I know I won't be making losses since I gained alot through all the productivity achieved by having the phone. I don't use it just for casual email, surfing, calling, smsing but I also have my word, excel, scanner etc in there which have helped me alot.
Alot of people tend to play the waiting game due to some other reason.
Some applications also actually increase in prices or instead of free it's now paid. For example when I got my Whatsapp it was free back then. If I'm not mistaken now it cost a fraction.
I will play the waiting game if I know for sure it will be released in 1 month or so..otherwise I will just jump ship and get whatever is there. Others can flash you their new 4g etc but it's just a phone if they don't have much in it except games and few other apps or if they don't use much of it. If others have 4g but they can't use it for surfing some needed info on that moment what's the use of it....of it might have a front camera for video call but if you do only 1-2 video call per month or maybe for entire lifetime of the phone then there's not much use of it anyway. If you think of being in the forefront of every technology then it cost you alot over time once you slowly add it up. Some clamoring for 4g might be because they wanted those technology and can really benefit from those.
My previous phone before 3gs is N96 which I still have it with me and bought it when it was recently released back then. The timeframe between now and end of year (maybe) is 8 months. Think what you can achieved by having the phone now rather than later.

Not rich no lappie no pc...public phone, borrow someone else pc to do assignment during my studying time. nevertheless use is wisely smile.gif

If you need the dict often then find some offline ones. Might cost abit more money but it's much more worth it than the frustration of not getting the info you need a the time.

In case your dad don't know the whole amount would be blocked from the cc until it's fully settled as mentioned before. not sure the case now as I only try it once on my card many years back.

Check your phone. Sometimes in certain places these tower have problem in handing over so suddenly you got lost of signal for long while and can't establish it back. You need to either put it in offline then online mode or switch it off then on. I noticed this happen to me in few same spot

Not sure but I think you can use iTunes gift card as well for time being.
Anyway there are lots of apps/games that are free all the time or some app/games being free for limited time. Can always use like Pandorabox to see if there are anything that you like being free for time being or just add it in watch list so it will alert you. Those that are unlikely to be free would be those premium apps but mainly geared for office kinda apps

with just RM 88, you can get 200 mins, 200 sms , 20 mms and 1GB data..What else can do you expect from a Malaysia telco..hehe
Furthermore, if we exceeds the data usage, we dont have to worry that our bills will cost a bomb.

+2
It's actually a fairly good offer even when comparing some of the first world countries.

Freebies are given for, if you want more then you will have to pay for it but the extras are calculated differently. Digi will surely close shop if everything is free.

Means they owe you. If final bill come with negative means you don't have to pay anything and they will carry forward the balance to offset next month balance
