Few of us just got our iPhone 3GS from Maxis last week and bounded with 12-months and 24-months contracts. It seems like we are buying too soon, but we wait for so long for it as the stocks depleted earlier 2010 and late 2009. Now here comes this breaking news. It is really shocking. Never expect Digi will gets their hands on iPhone too. But good to have competitions and we will be expecting a full-fledged price war in Malaysia. How will Maxis keep their current users happy? 12-months end very fast and Maxis will lose them all if they don't do it right.

Maybe they are waiting for a lowered price of iPhone 3GS from Apple if iPhone 4.0 is officially launched.

Ordering iPhone now might come in current price and later when the price drop later, Digi will lost a lot of money.

So I think Digi would wait for the revised price of iPhone 3GS where Apple usually announce new model of iPhone on June.

Rumour says that iPhone 4.0 will come in lowest 32GB, which if they decide to replace the current 3GS 32GB model, it might be as much as RM3000. If they decided that the hardware is much better, then expect something more than RM3000+.

Then the hotcake will be iPhone 3GS with quite impressive capabilities even after 4.0 is out. Average users and students would go for a cheaper but still decent performance smartphone which is the iPhone 3GS. I believe Digi is targeting this market with its lower cost broadband plan and rate. If iPhone 3GS 16GB comes in RM1000-RM1500 with contracts, I bet almost everyone could afford one.

Just my humble opinion.

Do you all think that Apple actually allows his carrier to simply charge the price of their phone?

It might ruin Apple's sale in Malaysia if they allowed that. So I do think Apple have control over the price of their iPhone under both Maxis and Digi.

It will be a battle of packages and services.

I am kinda curious how well both Digi and Maxis fare in term of 3G coverage. It would be troublesome when the 3G coverage not wide enough.

Well do hope the price war will benefits us.

Guys do post if there are any updates on Digi package.

Currently using Maxis 3GS RM100. 500MB is definitely not enough for me. Might as well JUMP if Maxis doesn't know how to keep it's customer happy.

If iPhone 3GS is selling at a lowered price, it is a better market compared to iPhone 4.0

Those without budgets or those who are not that fancy of overpriced-phone will go for a cheaper solution and still with a decent capability compare to other phone.

At a Price ranging about RM1500 most people could easily dish out that amount to get a phone, somemore this is a smartphone.

If iPhone 4.0 comes in with 32GB and 64GB with price starting RM3000+ (similar to the current iPhone 3GS 32GB), just how many will go for it? It is as expensive as a laptop and a quite decent personal computer. RM3000-RM4000 for a handphone?

I still think a cheaper iPhone 3GS will be selling better than the new 4.0. Somemore, Digi is not a stupid company for rolling out iPhone 3GS if there is no market. They must have done lots of paperworks and researches.

Haha I know RM4000 is nothing when you are at SG/US/UK or anything, but we are discussing about DIGI and DIGI market in Malaysia.

Yes, the other part of the world is waiting for 4.0 and even I myself have been waiting for it. But I bought 3GS anyway for fun, and then see how 4.0 goes.

When iPhone 4.0 comes out, I also will go and grab one. But not everyone is willing to spend that much for a phone. RM4000 can get quite a decent PC or laptop for average users. So I am saying Digi selling iPhone 3GS is not a bad business too. It aims for a lower income and lower budget users, which is A LOT.

I know you all are rich and can buy whatever you want. But just how many guys like you out there? They are looking for cheaper choices, and when 3GS drop, it just become their range of price.

Will they charge you if you tethered when they said that you can't with their packages?

I am wondering, is it better if I buy iPhone for RM2500 without contract from Maxis.

Then go and take RM58/month 3GB internet with pay whatever you use call/sms rate.

Being tied to contracts of 12/24/36 months, I can actually save back RM500 for 12monnths contract (RM1000 for 24months contract) to pay the additional cost to buy non-contracted iPhone.

So I will not bound to any excessive charges, and I can change to any better plans offered by other telco. Maximum flexibility rather than tied to the same RATE for 2-3 years. You never know what the price is the next 6 months or 12 months.

If a lot people asked them to open a new box of iPhone, then who want an OPENED box of iPhone?

When they bring to u, it is sealed. After it is opened, customer request to open another one. Then two iPhone stock become useless. If everyone starts doing that, even if they have 1000 stock, they can only sell 500.

Nobody will want to take an unboxed iPhone. Then they have to send back for recheck and repacking? Wonder how long that takes and how much they lost.

I can imagine why they are reluctant to open another box for you.

I wonder what makes the ivalue or idigi plan so attractive that people are taking it?

I personally took idata plan with my normal maxis plan. With my Maxis active10 or whatsoever they called it, I sms at the rate of RM0.01

With my RM50 limits, I could actually send 5000sms on paper calculation =P coz i never sent that much. Normally just about 1500 sms and calls. Never exceeded RM50.

With those idigi88 plans, 1500 sms would cost me, what 1300 x RM0.10 = RM130 additional to my RM88 plan? Is that wise? Correct me if I am wrong. The same also to ivalue plan by Maxis. It is just not flexible and why people even want to take it.

Just curious, no mean to offend anyone. Please enlighten me on why people choose ivalue/idigi plans.

QUOTE(thefryingfox @ May 17 2010, 03:23 AM)
1)On a broadband/bandwidth/payment perspective
Digi does not charge for additional bandwidth utilized. It merely downgrades to edge ( 128kbps). So 1GB bandwidth is basically unlimited. Especially if you need teethering often( u know this can easily blow up once u teether with your mobile)

2) Maxis 10 is the same with Digi Friendlist(or watever u call that thing u can add 5-6 people and get cheaper calls)

3) I'm not sure Maxis has that free calls to supp lines also? If they do, then good coz digi has em.

The only reason why i choose digi is
1) 0.15 cents flat rate
2) No need to pay for each KB once u exceed your quota ( Usefull for teethering users like me)
3)Overall its cheaper than maxis package (Pay 88 Ringgit is cheaper than maxis 150 package) ( Free 200 mins call which useful)
however this is coming from a digi perspective and user of 8 years. My bonus points are also quite a lot which allows me to use 600 points to knock off 12 ringgit from my bill LOL

I understand if it is DIGI vs MAXIS.

But now my question is the bundled plan versus the normal plan.

Maxis has ivalue (bundled) vs idata plan.

Digi has idigi (bundled) vs normal plan.

For maxis, i go for idata plan as i explained. With the bundled, you are fix with certain call and sms, after that EXTRA charges. For normal plan, we can go for those rate like you mentioned and at the end you gets more with those friends and family like you said.

For Digi, most of my friends went to buy an iPhone and get the RM58 internet. So they have flexibility compare to bundled plans with fixed amount of call and sms. Like the guys posted there, he has to pay MORE. Like the example i calculated, if i sent 1500 sms, i have to pay more.

If we use the normal plan with all these friends and family and cheaper rate, we save more compare to these bundled where you constantly have to keep counting your call and sms. Try break them and see which one has more value. The sms and minutes that you didn't use are wasted, and then the sms and minutes you overused are EXTRA cost.

Why go for bundled plan? That is my question. Please enlighten me. I am not saying Digi or Maxis is better. Just asking bundled and normal plan comparison.

If digi also offers subsidized iPhone with the RM58 plan will you get it. Ok you seems to be with digi find let's it on maxis then. Maxis ivalue and maxis idata, why ppl choose ivalue over idata?

If idigi against rm58 plan both same subsidized, which will you go for? Now they don't offer subsidizes other than bundled plan. I also throw same question to maxis user why get bundled plan?
