Well, since I'm new to here, I will post this here. It's hardware question after all...
Anyway, get to the point. I have one XBOX 360 Falcon unit. It just got struck by 3ROD, and i was panicked. I left it for a couple of hours and tried turning it on, then it worked. However, when i turned it off with a CD inside, and turned it on again, 3ROD happened again. I took the CD out and left it for a few hours again, it worked out. This happened about 2 times. So, should i just get it fixed or is there other solution to get it fixed without using money? (BTW, warranty is off)

honestly, you should ask at the consoles couch section.imo though, you better send it for repairs at a reputable shop as the 3rod problem is due to bad materials used that will melt .i don't know of any other solutionthan having an xclamp fixed there or change a new gpu

There are some forumer offer fix for 3rod here though , or check this out http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/466179

If your console is unmodded and within 3 year , the warranty is still intact .

You should send to that gameshop & demand for a claim.

and most of the falcon 3RRoD do not need a x-clamp fix. just re-apply the thermal paste will do.

hello xboxers... just wanna ask some question bout one friend xbox360 . He said suddenly the console can only turn on bout 30 minutes, then it will flashing 3 red lights and shutdown. Waited a little while can turn on and after 30 minutes it happen again... Is this the sign of permanent RROD? Whts the problem actually? Thanks >.<"

And it happened while playing red alert 3 on it

To everyone- Take out the X-clamps (you can burn it and fry it after that- X-clamp is the main reason WHY your XBOX 360 get 3ROD) and reapply the thermal paste on both CPU and 2 GPU chips. After that, take the fan out, turn it on and let it overheat- same as tower trick, but even faster as there is no fan or heat pipe. (Don't put heatpipe either) It will resolder the connection with GPU chip, and after around 20 minutes, turn it off and cool it. Turn it on again after that, then you will be back to your XBOX 360 in no time.

its best dont do the towel trick, do oven/baking trick. to be save use a heat gun. why i dont recommend the towel trick,
1. it dont last long, and sooner of later it will ROD (non revival)
2. burn some components.

Don't Ever Try TOWER TRICK. It's gonna fry the whole XBOX and you can't fix it afterwards if you do it a lot of times. Just send them to a game shop in this forum, they can fix it for 100 bucks, or you can fix it yourself.

but dude, what you recommended above is not a good idea too...one might fry the chip packaging by doing so.

i kinda lose faith in microsoft and xbox even though it is the best gaming console period~ I think im getting myself another console maybe a Wii or a PS3 first...maybe later in the future when microsoft really....i mean REALLY get rid or reduce the failure rate of the RROD problems then i would consider buying an Xbox again...

Anyway Xbox exclusives Rawk...

Ah...based on current chart which I did shared on the other thread, the new Jasper failure rate is well contained below promised 5%.

From the figure (well, I have to say it might not reflect real situation i.e. figure based on warranty claim figure from major US retailers + Microsoft direct claim, but the clue is there) it looks like it's the most reliable console: being most played and almost identical to failure rate Wii & PS3's

one last thing, to maximise xbox360's lifespan one must not rip apart the box to do funyn stuff like attempt x-clamp for working console or mods.
