Hi,

I'm trying to find out more information about this region-lockdown on ebook suddenly. Because I used to buy ebooks online from ereader.com, mobipocket.com and fictionwise.com for years with no problem. But suddenly, when I log in a couple of days ago, they put a region lock on purchaseable books on any country outside of US and Canada.

Anyone know when it's possible to get ebooks again from those sites? Or any site online, that is.

They're incorporating Geo IP filtering now. In anticipation of the more wider release with the introduction of the new e-readers coming out.

I use Hotspot Shield to trick Amazon into thinking I'm logging on in from the States, the program basically gives me a US proxy to cater for ebook purchases. I've never used the other services you mentioned, but give HotSpot Shield a try. Remember to disconnect it after the purchase is complete, otherwise all your surfing will take a hit since its traffic is redirected through a US proxy.

Unfortunately I don't have a credit/debit card so how can I buy the ebooks that's only available in US? I can use VPN to get US IP but after clicking the complete offer, I got error saying credit card error. How can I buy using PayPal balance? sad.gif

It's a bit of chicken and egg situation, if you ask me. So far, the only ebooks that aren't region locked are PDF books which can be larger file sizes than the sites that I mentioned.

Ah Amazon. I've not tried buying from Amazon.com downloads. Have only bought other stuff. I'm actually not big on Kindle after trying it out : the blinking of the pages make my eyes hurt. I would prefer the iPad since it's like the iPhone. Also, after seeing the demo on iPad for a concept of ViV magazine, I wouldn't want any other readers. ^.^

If you really need to buy an ebook which needs a US Credit Card, you can try Entropay, which is a virtual debit card.

I use it to bypass the Playstation Network CC check for US accounts...
But doesn't work for iTunes, so try with care...
