waaaahh.. how come i can miss this beautiful match.. haihz
*
Wasn't that beautiful to be honest. West Ham didn't put up much of a fight and we just coast through. Goals were done very well though, and some cool moves that didn't resulted in another goal or two. Should see that Rooney striker that just miss the palang. Long ball to Berba who touched it to Rooney(didn't mean it like that I think), who bounce the ball up a bit and hit it over the GK and narrowly missing the goal.

Rio injured again. Haih. We better buat doa selamat so that Vida, Brown and Evans will be fit from now through May. And hope Ando's injury isn't serious. He needs all the luck he can get right now. We need him too. Wonder how we would line up against Milan. Put Gibson alongside the other two or play 442 from the off.. or just like in Milan, Fletcher slot into Carrick's place, and Valencia and Nani both on the wings with Park man marking Pirlo again.

Gibson moves on the field is getting better and better IMO. His passing range is good. Just that he's still not involved much in general play. A bit like how Fletcher's career pan out. Not so good in the beginning but gradually got better. Once that happens, he'll be some player with his main weapon ready to fire at anytime, anywhere.

Tyler's Starting Stat - Rooney's head of the class
QUOTE
I was at Old Trafford on Tuesday night where Wayne Rooney scored two headers in Manchester United's 3-0 win over West Ham. After his headed goals against Hull City, Portsmouth, AC Milan (2) and Manchester City he has scored seven headers in his last eight games. Incredibly he had only scored four in his previous 342 career appearances. I mentioned that stat to him before our interview on Tuesday night and he just smiled. I don't think he could quite believe it.

Those goals took his tally for the season to 27 goals in all competitions and 23 in the Premier League but he told me he's set no targets. He has Premier League games against Wolves, Fulham, Liverpool, Bolton, Chelsea, Blackburn, Man City, Tottenham, Sunderland and Stoke to add to his league tally. He also told me he hopes to play in Sunday's Carling Cup Final after missing out last year.

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand's absence means he has now played in just six of United's 28 Premier League games this season.

TAKING AWAY THE TOP SCORERS
Hello, I have a question. With Rooney doing so well this season and seeming to carry the rest of the United team, I would like to see how much of a 'one man team' they are compared to the rest of the league. Could you show what the league table would look like if each team's top scorer was omitted from their results, eg: if you exclude all Drogba's goals then Chelsea's result from Saturday would change from 2-0 to 0-0. Thanks! Bruce, St Albans

MARTIN SAYS: Bruce, we have new Premier League leaders! Under your system, Arsenal go two points clear at the top. Remarkably, if you take Cesc Fabregas' 12 goals away from the records, Arsenal would be just one point worse off (the point earned from his goal in the 1-1 draw with Burnley).

In contrast, Drogba's 19 goals have added 15 points to Chelsea's tally so without them the Blues drop down to third spot. Wayne Rooney's goals have earned Manchester United eight points and they would remain second.

QUOTE(IcyDarling @ Feb 25 2010, 01:46 PM)
i do notice that we are beginning to be more consistent as in winning 3-0 or 4-0. Rooney's change of position is definately effective! Thats the Rooney i was finding for! the Rooney that always dropped deep and kena offside like mad(now of coz he is getting better in doing the runs)
*
Rooney had in-match training the previous 3 seasons. He was sometimes play as the furthest ahead too with Saha around, and Saha lasted only half a season when we won the first of 3 EPL. After that Tevez came into the picture and Rooney was employed there full time. Last season it was Berba who shared the spot behind Rooney with Tevez. In the last two seasons he went on a scoring run too.. just that it wasn't longer and it was rare. Once he loses his scoring touch or get injured, he would find a hard time finding getting that form back.

Added on February 25, 2010, 3:10 pmI didn't know Rooney scored so many headers.. especially 7 in his last 8 games.. laugh.gif He was pretty shit at them before.

Valencia-Scholes-Fletcher-Nani
-----------------Park-------------
----------------Rooney----------

Or just go for it with Berba alongside Rooney with Park on one of the wings.

Get him back, stick him out on the left. Left wing problem solved! He would love Nani/Valencia on the right. drool.gif

Added on February 25, 2010, 6:06 pmReally harsh on the kid. He was struggling with his form, so he got in the reserve team.. but then that match was postponed because of snow.. and when he get back into the main side, 10mins in, got himself injured. And now he would be out for 6 months.. missing the world cup too.

Added on February 25, 2010, 6:08 pmGood chance for Gibson to stake a claim though. Looking forward to it.

10 games left in the league, 8 goals to match Ron's total. Wolves away, Fulham and Liverpool home, and Bolton away if looking at Alien's siggy.. do-able.. but kinda hard since he won't play every game.

VDS signs new deal
26/02/2010 12:13, Report by Ben Hibbs
QUOTE
Edwin van der has signed a new one-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until at least June 2011.

The 39-year-old Dutch goalkeeper has put pen-to-paper on the new deal, which takes him beyond his 40th birthday in October this year.

Sir Alex Ferguson is pleased to have secured the experienced shot-stopper's services for another 12 months.

“Edwin’s professionalism and dedication to his job and the way he looks after himself has given him the longevity in the game," the boss told ManUtd.com. "That longevity includes such great experience not just at United, but at Juventus, Ajax and on an international level. We are absolutely delighted he is continuing for another year."

Van der Sar is "delighted" to have signed for another year, and also thanked United for the compassion shown in helping him to deal with the recent illness of his wife.

"I still feel good and am enjoying my football," he told us. "This is a great club and I was shown a great deal of compassion and support during a difficult time in December and January for which I am extremely grateful. I am looking forward to winning more trophies with this great team."

Good news. Bad news for the transfer muppet in all of us, but at least we'll have a steady GK next season. Kuszczak and Foster should be happy too. If VDS leave next summer, we might just go out and buy a top rated GK which would mean their chances for the #1 glove is gone for good.

thats a stupid decision to even ponder about. A fact that i know, Rooney can play every single game, 90 minutes and still perform at the best at the end of it. Simply because of the drive he has to play, u can see from the disappointment of being subbed out even when the team had lead 4-0.
*
Well it would be a stupid decision to play him in every game. Look at how tired we were against Everton after the game against Milan. In fact look at all our results in matches after a CL game. It's a long season ahead. While he's on fire right now, he might just be burning up too bright too soon and he will fade as the season wears on. We don't want that to happen. We have to manage things carefully since he's our biggest threat and we have no one else capable of replacing him properly although the strike rates of Berbatov and Owen is healthy this season even if they don't feature that much. While it's a fantastic chance of winning a cup, I wouldn't be too downbeat about it if we lose the occasion as a result of resting Rooney. I would be happy with losing it if it meant Rooney would be fit for the remainder of the season. With our luck on the injury front, I don't want to take any chances. Defence, lately Giggsy and Ando, Rio again missing.. let's keep Rooney fit please. I'm not disrespecting the occasion, Villa or the cup, it's just that we have to set our priority straight. Saying that I expect him to feature in some ways.

Or worse, totally wreck his career by playing him too much early in his career and he will never reach the same heights later on. He's only 24. And he's just a normal human being like the rest of us except that he's bloody good at playing football. And like us, we can't run, work non stop. Mental fatigue, tiredness etc.. it would take a toll on anyone. Time for Owen and Berba to step up.

Another one need resting is Evra. Dunno when we'll be able to since we don't really have a backup there. Fabio keep getting injured every month and O'Shea as we know is still injured.

In light of Ando's injury, hope Gibson will prove to be reliable. We'll need everyone to play their part in the run in.

Every player thrives on playing week in week out. Doesn't mean they're able to at 100%. If tiredness isn't a factor, SAF wouldn't have rotated our squad so much last few seasons.

Depends on how things are. With the WC around the corner and his importance to us, I'm sure he would understand if he's left out in some of the games we would play. It's not about what he wants. I'm sure if it's up to him, he would play every single game for 90 mins.

We could rest him for the Wolves game, but losing that game would be far more disastrous for us than losing the Carling Cup final. It's about priority. Whether it's right or wrong, it's a different matter entirely, but if we rest him to the game tomorrow, it won't be a 'stupid' decision.

Well i guess me saying stupid is a bit overstatement there, sorry bout that tongue.gif

I still think any Final game is important, be it Carling or UCL. Win this and the " at least 1 trophy per season" MINIMUM target of SAF will be achieved, so i believe this Carling Cup Final is rather important. Its not United to prioritize any competition, we go into every game to win. So can't really say BPL is given priority to Carling Cup, especially at this point of the competition. Playing or resting Rooney (or any other players) have its equal benefit and risk in both tournaments, so it all goes down to whether Rooney really needs that rest or not.

Anyway, i believe this discussion has been inside SAF's mind for a long time, at the end of the day it's his decision to make not us biggrin.gif Besides, doesnt mean that no Rooney = lose right? we're no 1 man team wink.gif
*
Whatever team SAF put out, it would be a team that would be able to win games. And that would be his and the teams priority of course. Whether they're able to win depends on a number of things. I see your point about being in the final and we should do our best to win it. I was just saying that if we rest Rooney tomorrow, it would be for a good reason with the team in mind. I would rest easier if Rooney is dropped completely for tomorrow. I have no problem if he starts tomorrow, I just prefer that we don't risk him at all though.

QUOTE(Sheep319 @ Feb 27 2010, 07:33 PM)
DONOTWANT ROONEY TO REST.

Hell, after we came back from Milan, name me one player that has played well during the match against Everton.

From Italy to England, of course the players feel tired.

But within England itself, it's nothing, really. I expect to see Rooney play and Rooney to score using his foot/knee/head/crotch/hand/chest/nose.

Playing without Rooney, is like Chelsea without Drogba. Still awesome, but lacking the firepower.
*
We should unleash Diouf. The stage is set for him to become a great.

Anyone would. If it was one of us, we would probably have punched Terry right there and then.
Agent Tevezzz.. We have so many of them all over the league. Wonder when they would use this as a stick to claim we're bribing the whole league to get us points. biggrin.gif

QUOTE
Fabio Capello says Rooney excites him and other top managers
"Rooney is one of the best players in the world now, the confidence is really there.

"Messi is about dribbling and imagination. Ronaldo is fast and shoots from distance - Rooney is a real centre-forward.

"The others play wide. Kaka has to arrive from midfield but Rooney presses. The others do that less.

"When I meet Marcello Lippi or Giovanni Trapattoni they all think he's one of the best in the world. They always ask me about Rooney."

QUOTE
Sir Alex Ferguson

"He [Michael Owen] has trained every day here; he has never missed training. He has been terrific, he has never been a problem,"

"He looks sharp and I think he has improved as a footballer since coming to us.

"His general knowledge of the game, his linking play and his passing... these things have been good since he has come to us. He's done well but the only problem that Michael Owen has got is Wayne Rooney. That's his problem.

"I think we are seeing a natural development with Rooney, which we knew was going to happen. If you look at his headers recently, he has been free in every header he has had in the past few weeks. That tells you something."

"You have to admire his work-rate but this season Wayne is playing with a new maturity, in keeping with his responsibilities in his life away from football.

"If he continues to improve at this rate he will be a complete player, ready to join the distinguished band of United legends."

"Everyone wondered how we would replace Cristiano Ronaldo's goals. But I had a sneaking suspicion Wayne was close to taking a vital step forward in his career. And so it has proved.

"In the past Rooney was reluctant to operate in the forward position, his youthful enthusiasm took him all over the pitch."

My first reaction was that he's off for that. We got lucky there I think although like Vida says, Agbonlahor was going away from goal, and Vida was ahead of him that time. Good win. Rooney with his head again.. almost got two of them today. Not sure what magic he use to make himself free to head the ball every time. Good win. Villa made it very hard and lived up to their meanest defence reputation.
