not sure if this is the right place to post..but ive tried searching the net and most of the info are quite confusing considering my limited knowledge on displays..

ive managed to connect the LCD tv (sony KLV-40BX400) to my pc but there are 2 main issues

1)i cant seem to get the resolution to 'fullscreen' even after ive set the resolution to 1920 X 1080 form the computer..there will be black bars on the left and right side..the only way is to use the wide zoom or zoom feature on my tv but alot of details on the screen are cropped off..

2)there isnt any sound coming out from my tv speakers..

well for the first problem i dont really have any ida whats happening..but for the second, ive read about a connection needed between my graphic card (ATi HD4850) and my soundcard to make it work..this would be a hassle since i cant seem to find the cable that came with my card..

another alternative which im not too sure is using the blue DVI cable (?)..but will connecting the DVI(for sound) and HDMI(for display) cable together work?

thanks in advance!:)

not sure abt item no.1 but for no.2, just connect a 3.5mm jack from your soundcard to the LCD TV 3.5mm socket. i believed its located next to the blue analog connector.

From: there
1. check whether your TV is set to the correct ratio. should be 16:9

2. Did you connect the Audio cable from your Audio card to the TV, to the correct port that is correspond to the PC in ?

*DVI & HDMI both are for display only. for sound, u need to connect "line out" or speaker port from your PC to the TV

most likely the jack from PC sound card is 3.5 mm while the TV socket is 6.35 mm.
TS, u need to buy this audio cable with 1 end is 3.5mm and another end is 1/4in or 6.35mm

yeap, like hkhk mentioned, the jack behind the tv is definitely not a 3.5mm one..any other alternatives i have besides connecting my el cheapo pc speakers to get audio?

about the tv aspect ratio..i think by default,it is 16:9 since there is an option to only change it to 4:3..any other place i should look out for?

how much does this audio cables cost and what do i ask for when i get to the shop?

for item no.1 what source you playing?
maybe the source is fix to 4:3 only..
try other source and see how the result..

if the LCD TV can display your desktop in 16:9, mean all the setting is correct..

follow this steps:

-1st of all u need to install new ati driver
-go to ati catalyst control center
-click the "graphic" drop down button located at top left of the ccc window and select "desktop & display"
-u will see lcd icon at the bottom, right click and select configure
-find the scaling options, drag the slider to the right and use 0% scaling
-in hdtv option make sure your resolution is added in here maybe your lcd display is 1920x1080 @ 60Hz

-if u do correctly, the image will be fullscreen with 1920x1080 but some lcd tv need to configure to produce optimum display. sometimes u need to select "picture" setting and set to pc. what i mean is the predefined picture setting (dynamic, movie, game, normal and sometime it will include pc for optimize the pc display).. select this setting if u see in your lcd menu.

-about the sound, u need to enable hdmi audio output. right click speaker button at your taskbar located near the clock. configure the setting here. u will see a device "ati hdmi output" or something like that. select this output as default device..

-this is only available/work correctly if u use hdmi cable!! if u use vga cable, u can't produce the sound through the lcd cus only hdmi cable can send a audio signal.

if u do correctly, u will be smiling by now. icon_rolleyes.gif
