Hi All,

I bought a 2nd hand house with the asbestos ceiling boards. I am planning to change them to plaster ceilings.

Just wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions:
1) maintain the asbestos boards but add plaster ceiling boards beneath it. This is for extra insulation by the existing asbestos board (maybe more cooling?) and also as 2nd layer protection from leaking roof.
2) or just remove existing asbestos and replace entirely with new plaster ceiling.

Which one is better?

Regards,
Lim

I am also wondering about this. Have been getting 2different views ; to remove the old asbestos or not. My contractor says better not, as can act as additional layer in case has leakage from above.

i'd rather make sure the roof doesnt leak. also if got leakage and asbestos does break you get cancer-causing fibres in the house. i would not want that!

hi. my contractor is quoting plaster ceiling for RM3.50 psf run. Plain plaster ceiling, incl mat & labour. Is this price reasonable? Like most of you, I also have a layer of existing abestos, but am not sure if I should remove it. What is the verdict? smile.gif

oh okay. noted. i check with another contractor, and he said that the reason why his chargin higher (even higher thatn RM3.50psf) is because my hse is a 1 1/2 story. Me living room ceiling is slanting from 2nd story all the way down to 1st, hence, slightly more higher than norm rate.

Anyhows, I have check with Wai Teong (who's contact ive gotten from this forum) who has quoted rm2.10 psf (excl painting and holes). I was wonderin if anyone has engaged him in his plaster ceiling before? how is his workmanship?
