Teikwing may be able to do a more thorough review than I do. It depends on when I get the order. If it is on my departure day, then he gets to play with it earlier than I do.

Kaspersky is RM80 if I'm not mistaken, for one year. Price from Cycom in Low Yat Plaza. BitDefender is slightly more expensive, I get it online for about RM129 after conversion.

I always name my system with my initials as the first name. StringfellowM15X, StringViliv, StringfellowAir, StringMini, StringVaioP. You get the idea. I cant afford to name them individually, since I have too many laptops and gadgets to keep track to, so I keep them according to their model/brand name. The M11X will be StringfellowM11X.

Anybody planning to get optical drive addon for their M11X? If so, is anybody going beyond DVD, namely Blu-ray? After days of search, still cant find anywhere that have the Asus external BD drive.
EDIt: Called them again. Looks like no chance arriving any earlier than 26th. I'm in Adelaide at that time, so Teikwing would probably be the first person here to get an M11X. This post has been edited by stringfellow: Feb 22 2010, 09:34 AM |

That would be the last resort. I'll have to wait until I get another trip to the States, but I was hoping that the scene here is updated enough to carry this product in. Just called Servex and Build Tech, looks like they don't stock this in.

Shipping it was even more killer. Which is why I'm waiting for my USA trip before buying this. Looks like I'd have to get the external DVD driver first before getting this.
Anther matter to ponder is how would you be installing your games, and if running games without the discs themselves is possible. I know of options like Direct2drive and Steam, but what about those with actual physical game DVDs? |

Some games do allow virtualization of the game discs. My Civilization IV game allows this. I just create an image of the disc, mount it up and the game loads. Others detects the presence of the disc, otherwise it will not run.
Services like D2D and Steam alleviates this, but I don't feel like buying my games twice. |

Only originals. So I have no fear of them checking my laptops for pirated software.
As crew, we go through a separate lane compared to the passengers. They still scan our stuff, but like I said, all my stuff are original. |

Update on the order, it now says "Cleared Customs" on the 21st. I may be able to get it as soon as tomorrow!
Crap! Why the &%*^ does the shipment flies to Penang of all places! Why not KL!? This post has been edited by stringfellow: Feb 22 2010, 01:56 PM |

Sigh, the goddamned flight is to Penang, not KL! Confirm that the package is already in Penang International Airport, and will only make its way to KL tomorrow. As the window of delivery shrinks to 24 hours (I dare not kacau my rest time on the 24th, as I'll be flying the sector to Adelaide), this is getting really really critical.
The local shipping agent is YCH, and already called them. They have the details of my order based on my order number, but it is a placeholder with no details in it(gave my order number, they captured my name but nothing else). Why the freaking hell they fly it to Penang when the order is from KL, God only knows! This post has been edited by stringfellow: Feb 22 2010, 05:38 PM |

I need to get out and get the external drive already. and a couple of new games, maybe Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2. |

I still have to deal with the "No DVD Patch" for my older games, so it doesn't make any difference if I buy the games physically now.

Wheeeee! Shopping spree for the M11X! In LYP at the moment, and the damage so far:-
Games: Modern Warfare 2, Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, Left 4 Dead 2. Software: Kaspersky AV 2010 3 user license. For the m15x, Vaio P, and M11X Accessories: Razer Mamba, Logitech G35, Sensonic slot-loading external USB powered DVD writer. Initially was thinking of the Carcharias, but looking at the feature set and how much cheaper the G35 has dropped(RM535 when first launched, now RM385!), might as well get the G35. Carcharias is RM70 cheaper. Should I get the gaming mat? I have an old Goliathus lying around somewhere. Is the Megasoma any better? Added on February 23, 2010, 2:37 pmOh yeah. Also was considering Sennheiser PC350 as the first choice compared to Carcharias or the G35, but after calling Pantrade, they don't bring this officially. I may have to look for this oversea. QUOTE(ff8ong @ Feb 23 2010, 02:38 PM) You can get a no name brand for as cheap as RM89. I'm looking for a slot-loader so my choice is a bit limited. I also wanna keep the black theme going, so my choice is between the Sensonic and the black LG. Sensonic's slot-loading drive won me over. Also printed at the front of the drive that it's Win7 certified so that's for the peace of mind. The rest only says up to Vista although I'm sure they should work. Just don't want to end up having to go back and forth when my time is limited. Price for the Sensonic is RM188. |

Advantages of G35 over Carcharias:-
1. Delivery of the audio data digitally(since audio data is transferred to the headphone via USB) before conversion done by the headphone itself as analog signal. This alleviates digital-to-analog conversion noise. 2. Virtual surround versus stereo. You said the M11X is 5.1 capable, but it is worthless until you connect it to a 5.1 speaker system. With the M11X being a portable system, the G35 is my "portable" 5.1 speaker system. Sure, it's "virtual", but it has the hardware and software features to do so, compared to Carcharias' stereo makeup. I weigh those pros more over the disadvantage of it being heavier, or the cups being made of faux leather and warming my ears. I'll most probably be gaming in air-conditioned environment. In the end, the G35 will be superseded by the Sennheiser PC350 should I be able to find one oversea. If Razer Mamba can be used wired, doesn't it recharges the battery as well, when connected via USB? That solves the battery endurance issue. Overclocking now. A simple switch in the BIOS, and now in system info, it is reporting 1.73GHz. More than 5 minutes running now, still no crash unlilke Homebrewer at NBR.
For everyone's info, I'm in KLCC. House just got power failure, after the short lightning storm just now. I had to drive to KLCC to get the unboxing done. Otherwise you'll see me unboxing with candlelight! Uploading the unboxing video to Youtube now. I |
