With ATI videocard, 3xxx, 4xxx, 5xxx and HDMI receiver, you only need one HDMI cable for both video and audio. 4xxx and 5xxx support 7.1 LPCM so you get surround sound for your gaming without any sound card.

Also, you can get those soundcard with DTS connect or DD Live, it can encode 5.1 surround sound into SPDIF so you can connect your soundcard to amp with one coax or optical cable. No need RCA cable.
