Sylphy operates at about 90% of its maximum torque at 2k rpm and the CVT will couple to that torque range for most of the "gear ratio" (I knew, it does not really have a gear) for optimum power / fuel consumption. NVH is pretty good.. but due to the torque curve, it does not have very good max speed as the torque are most useful as mid range torque.
