Just wondering did anyone here use foam tape to cushion the rim of the dumbbell weight plate? I'm having hard time finding the singled sided foam tape. All the shop seems to only sell double sided one.
1. You can try IKEA and get some corner or edge protection rubber/PU. (ie, those rubbery strip/things people stick onto tables and corners so that children do not get hurt badly if they run and knock themselves on those edges)
2. You can stick to your double sided foam tape; get some talcum powder or flour and powder and coat the outer sticky side.
3. Alternatively, you can buy some rubber mats or padding and place them strategically on areas where you think you will rest or drop or accidentally drop your plates. Below find some ideas:
a. Rubber foam (similar foams you find on air-con foam duct insulator); but you can get up to 1" thick foams.
b. Insertion rubber mats (may cost a bit more, but very easy to find at hardware store)
c. Shoe sole pads (may not be easy to find but cheap. go to a place where they fix shoes, may be able to get from them or order from them.)
d. OR the cheapest way is to go to a shop where they make/repair car seat cushions and get some left over foams or padding from them, or you can offer to buy them for a cheap price.
I find it better to use mats instead of coating your plates. Ive made my own "custom" rubberised plates (attached) cause I have access to machine shop and a rubber molding facility. I still place a mat around the area where I workout.
