frankly.. rm1k is quite tight.. with that budget u might want to reconsider Jalan Pasar model again if not, try to look for 2nd hand set. If u r lucky u might get one.. This post has been edited by Sawamura: Feb 9 2010, 01:36 PM

seriously... for long term use... consider getting a AV receiver
it works much better than HTIB as when your av needs grow i.e dvd player,xbox,ps3,media player,pc etc..
a HTIB only have 1 optical input while AV receiver have 5-10 input (depend on model)..
and you just need to spend ~1.8k for entry level branded AV receiver (price include speaker with sub).

as long as yout HTiB has digital coaxial or optical input and the set can decode Dolby and DTS out of it, it should be fine.

Now I tell you what you should not buy...
Panny HTiB...
Cause it dun do DTS through Opticals and even .srt (subtitle) files dun work with the built in DVD player.

QUOTE(spaceship @ Feb 12 2010, 12:51 AM) philips hts3366 is around 800+ u get two stand speakers RM800+ ??? Wahh.. price drop so surprisingly for this model. Last month I see it more than 1K. Actually i'm interested with this model for my HT when i'm looking at it at the first time. But when I try to hear its sound compare to AVR at harvey norman, seriously I reject it on the spot. I'm not audiophiles, but I suggest u to get AVR. U can get the best HT experience with AVR.

Yeah...I also upgrade from my Philips HTiB.
Take note as good and cheap as the Philips is, only the top range models support Digital Coaxials in...and not optical in.
So if you buy WDTV...then you can't use the digital ports.
Its best to download the manual book first before getting anything just to make sure of the specs.

QUOTE(cyanide @ Apr 30 2010, 01:56 PM) just signed to buy this model DAV-TZ200K @Sony center, RM699 c/w 3 yrs warranty, worth the $$$ or not? According to the spec i saw only Audio line-in (Stereo), there no Optical/Coaxial in so DD/DTS input might not be possible if you wanna add in other stuffs like PS3, Xbox or Blu-ray player later on. IF you just wanna use it to playback DVD i think it might be okay but with no option for additional audio input (Optical/Coaxial/HDMI) your upgrading options are VERY limited with that set. Link --> http://www.sony.com.au/product/dav-tz200 (couldn't find the link for the (k) abbreviation so i thought it might be the same) This post has been edited by netherlord: Apr 30 2010, 10:53 PM

ops... i think my mistake. TZ200 is without K only 290 come with "K" coz got karaoke function. Ya... this amount of $$$ and thinking about upgrade? emmm... I just hope the player is lasting. If upgrade that time, this set still can use as low-end CD/VCD/DVD player [ ]

RM1K can get wat...Samsung and LG. Mine got like a few years back. Around RM1K only, SAMSUNG HT-30 i think. So far so good. But seriously, i dun use the DVD player at all. Just use it as amp/speaker in the bedroom. works fine. Nowadays, it's better to get a dedicated HD media player and connect it to the amp/speakers. DVD is so last decade.
