To answer your question (If connected to component or HDMI output of the B.yond Box):

Standard Definition (CRT) TV
576i = Excellent
720p = Excellent
1080i = Excellent

HD Ready TV
576i = Medium to poor
720p = Excellent
1080i = Excellent

Full HD TV
576i = Poor
720p = Medium
1080i = Excellent
*
I didn't see any difference for HD channel if it is connected to my CRT TV....
The bad things, the picture of HD channel will become letterbox...
The PQ same as SD Channels... sweat.gif

can o not install astro byond at putrajaya apartment?ada sesiapa sudah pasang?
*
It depends on your apartment management..
because some management did not allow their resident to install individual dish..
they need to use centralized dish...

What about SD channels that use widescreen (Enhanced Definition) i.e. CNN, BBC News Or Australia Network? I notice sometimes on Australia Network programming the logo will cut out of the screen partially? Will they finally be transmitted without cropping?
*
I just know from u that CNN, BBC News and Ausn are transmitted in widescreen mode.... nod.gif
i thought all of astro SD channels are in 4:3 mode...

Yeah. Have you played those formats on your PC?

I recently download a lot of FullHD .ts files over the net (Specifically S.Korea)
It does indeed look good but almost all their streams are outputted at 1920x1088.

How about Astro? is it similar to 1920x1080? I do know both are 1080i and uses MPEG2 though.
One hour worth of HD content 1080i60fps is roughly 10.1GB, I do need to know how is Astro compressing the streams.
*
If i'm not mistaken, Astro not used MPEG 2 for HD channels, they use MPEG 4 @ H.264/AVC Codec

but most CRT does not have component input. Only have S-video input...
last night, I go to my cousin house, they already installed byond.., and you know why they installed byond, he said to me that he only want new looking dish..., "elegant" and more "Xclusive" and does not know a lot what is HD... icon_question.gif and he using CRT TV that come only with CVBS input... sweat.gif

yea... same with my TV also...
When i set it to 720p.., it becomes a bit blurry and the picture not so sharp..
but when set to 1080i.., yes, everything fine....
even my tv was just HD-Ready.... (native resolution : 1366x768)

WOW!!!!
I have checked Astro's website..its True..its True..
Im in total shock right now..
How the heck last week [check previous pages (30-50)] we got news that there is no F1 in HD until 2011
Not in Malaysia only but the whole world will have to wait until 2011
It was reported that FIA (the racing governing body) still not prepared for HD
Now suddenly we get news F1 in HD on ESPN
I know initially before launching ESPN HD, Astro did say F1 will be in HD
So there are 3 scenarios now,
Either FIA are now suddenly prepared for F1 HD around the world or
Astro dont know there is no F1 HD  until next year and this is an error or
They will upscale the content of the normal SD feed

Anyways..im hoping it is true that F1 will be in HD
NASCAR seems great in HD, F1 with Schumacher back and Lotus 1Malaysia also in should be a cracker!!!
Lets wait and see  drool.gif
*
I think, scenario no 3 is the most probably now..
Astro maybe just upscale SD version of F1 to HD.... sad.gif
but, as you said, just wait and see... rolleyes.gif

may I know whether F1 was actually broadcast in 16:9 or 4:3...??
If they already broadcast it in 16:9.., I think, it's not really problem when they upscale it since the sources itself already in 16:9, but if the sources is in 4:3... ready to see the "wide" racing car... tongue.gif

Anyone here know that astro has launched new decoder for school used?? I saw the new decoder has Dolby Digital Logo and has build-in Hard Disk. The function is same as eralier Astro Max... The design looked a bit same as B.Yond., but slightly bigger and long...

Too bad, our byond only have 1 tuner. So, we won't have 'watch 1 channel while recording other channel' just like Astro Max, when byond recording function is available.
*
I think, in the future time, surely astro will release the new version of Byond...
maybe it will have 2 tuners like astro max and will be included with internal HDD....
because Starhub cable tv in singapore also launched 2 version of HD decoder...
one with fully PVR functions, and other one just like astro byond.., only can watch hd channel...
