Oh really? How would I know which VHS player will play the tapes I have? The last VHS player I bought was in back in 2000/01 I think. I think it was JVC. I could play the tapes on that one. I can't remember the model though.

You are god. That VCR is Titanium 6 heads model. Maybe model VC-K98. Titanium heads... are built to last. Take good care of it.

Thing that come to mind is that fungus grow on tape oredi. You must look for tape cleaning kit to clean the tape.

that's why I say the head can end up to last longer than the unit .. anyway it;'s collecting dust..

sell it to our beloved TS la..instead of collectiong dust there...

I had a VHS player too, probably eaten by dust now..need to search for it in the garage..

I had a Ti drum set also. The thing that broke in the player was the mechanism Gave to father to repair, father throw it away say cannot repair

So I had to buy the DV-NC70 as a replacement, which is a slightly better player overall. Also 6 head HiFi, but no titanium head. But it makes up for it with SVHS playback support, NICAM digital stereo / IGR stereo tuner, and to top it all off, a region-free DVD player. And OSD. The older player has no OSD.

Wat a coincidence.. I m usin a sharp 6 head ( I tink its titanium head tingy ..) as a RF converter/tuner for my pj setup too.. Hvnt watched it for ages thou..

Hmmm, multi system is always good, never know if you'll want to pop in that collector's edition Titanic tape...

But it's mono only. If your tapes aren't recorded on a stereo VCR, it's good enough and you're not missing anything. Just remember to use a RCA Y-cable for audio when connecting the player to your video capture card. For good effect tho, I'd recommend searching for one that has HiFi playback as well as world multi support.

This one looks pretty good. Ask around to see if any Sharp authorized distributor can still get one for you. Iirc this is the last model of VCR available from Sharp in Malaysia.

What's wrong with Mono? Aren't all VHS players the same? I mean it's possible to transfer the video using easy-cap to my pc right? Should I not get the player? I've already made a deal with the guy. He's willing to sell it for RM160. I really don't get this stuff. Can you please explain what is a RCA Y Cable? and why it'd be better if I got a HiFi playback?
I was told that any VHS players can work with the easy-cap capture card? Is that true?

Which carrefour did you see a VHS player? I've looked everywhere, and found nothing.

There is nothing wrong with Mono. Just that if you're planning to convert Hi-Fi stereo video tapes (if the videos you have are in HiFi stereo), the conversion will have mono sound. Apart from that, no difference. As for Y cable, it's a cable with one RCA connector on one end that splits into two RCA connector on the other end. Looks like this:


Here's the thing: Mono VCRs only have one audio out connector. I'm assuming the easy-cap has two audio in connectors (L/R for stereo).

I'll try to put this in layman's terms. Mono VCRs will only store one audio track for sound. Stereo VCRs will store a mono audio track for backward compatibility with mono VCRs and a pair of encoded audio tracks for stereo sound (left and right audio tracks). The stereo sound is stored such that it's only accessible on stereo VCRs, while mono VCRs will play the mono audio track and ignore the stereo audio tracks. A stereo VCR playing back a mono tape will scan the tape for the encoded stereo tracks and fall back to the mono track if none is detected.

I'm not sure how the Easy-Cap capture works, but to be safe it's better to populate both audio connectors than to just connect one and then wonder why only left or right speaker on TV has sound once the conversion is done. This cable will connect the only mono audio out connector on the VCR to both the L/R audio in connector on the easy-cap device so both L and R will receive sound. For video just connect a straight one-to-one RCA cable from the VCR's video out to the Easy-Cap's video in.

I would guess yes, I've seen webpages showing the device working with XP SP3. I suggest you e-mail the company that makes the device just to be sure tho.

And no, not all VCRs are the same. VCRs can either support NTSC playback only meaning it can only playback NTSC videotapes and can only record PAL signal to tape, or full World Multi meaning it can support recording and playback all over the world, and can either support recording Teletext or not. Some VCRs can only record stereo from AV in, while others have stereo tuner to record stereo from TV source as well. And many VCRs don't have stereo support at all. And older VCRs cannot support long play/extended play.
