Jerseyman's Review: Republic of Ireland (EIRE) 2010 Home Jersey

Since it was St Patrick's day few weeks ago... I decided to buy this jersey.

Nah, just kidding.. When I first saw the glimpse of the new jersey:

user posted image

I said to myself that I will get it.

The reason why was because I like the dark green colours and also because this could be another retro umbro design (similar to England's Home 2009-2011).

I purchased one from kitbag and it arrived:

Latest haul today...

And to my slightest disappointment, the green colours was not Dark Green.. but Green. The previous Eire kits were light green.. The photos shown in the internet and the one at kitbag showed as if the kit will be dark green.. But it wasn't:

The green colour was normal green. Similar to the colours of Carlsberg, Heineken. I think it's similar to Shay Given's green Man City GK Kit 2009-2010 as well...

Anyway.. here are some closeup photos of the new EIRE kit:

I think EIRE is the only national football team jersey that HAS a sponsor on the front. I might be wrong though.......... I dunno why the FA of Ireland (FAI) allows this. Even since the adidas trefoil days.. up to today... Previously it was OPEL and now EIRCOM.

The EIRCOM sponsor logo is PU

I like the gold touch in this new EIRE kit

The price tag is still old skool like the England's

Except that there is one extra tag that represents EIRE

Continued..

I believe that this jersey is almost similar to Man City's 2009-2010 Home Jersey. It even has the long white stripe from bottom to the armpit as well:

On the back of the jersey, there are 2 different layers. One is the upper (near the collars) and another is the lower:

user posted image

The 2 layers (upper and lower) looks to be different:

user posted image

At first I thought there were 2 different material used.. But then later.......... I did some extra analysis and found out.. actually both come from 1 same polyester material. What I found out is... for the retro kits.. Umbro made 2 types of materials:

a. Polyester
b. Polyester + cotton

For material a, it's the normal polyester material that modern kit use nowadays.. the soft light material that has small ventilation holes. You can see them on the upper layer on the back of this kit.

Now.. for material b... At first you might think that it is a totally different cotton material. But in fact.. it is actually constructed from the same polyester material but it is added with a cotton layer. Top layer is cotton, bottom layer is the same polyester material. Take a look on the photo below:

What happens if I pull the bottom of the back layer of the jersey (flip it) up to the top near to the collars:

user posted image

You can see that actually, the inside layer of the jersey (for the cotton material) has the same polyester material as the one near the collars:

user posted image

You can see for yourself.. the small hole patterns at the back layer (upper) and underneath the back layer (lower) are identical!

And then when I checked the washing tags inside the jersey:

user posted image

You can see... that:

1. Body: 79% Polyester 21% Cotton
2. Panels: 100% Polyester
3. Trim: 81% Polyester 19% Elastane

So.. the front layer, back layer (lower), sleeves are: Body
The back layer (upper) is: Panels
The Trim (I suspect the cuffs and the V neck collar) is: Trim

So the engineering here is.. umbro made one polyester layer.. then to make it look retro and old skool, it adds a cotton layer on top of the polyester layer... And then to reconstruct the jersey, some parts have the layer that contains polyester+cotton, some just polyester and so and so...

Again if you look at the back layer (upper) that is near to the collars.. if you look at the inside layer:

user posted image

Look closely at the material's pattern and compare them with the England Away 2010's back layer (from my previous review):

user posted image

Almost the same.. So basically how umbro made these retro looking jerseys is by producing one polyester material and then add another layer of cotton on it..

To be continued..

Continued..

You can even check at the washing tag on the England Away 2010:

user posted image

Body: 70% Polyester 21% Cotton
Trim: 100% Polyester
Trim: 82% Polyster 18% Elastane
Trim: 90% Polyester 10% Spandex

I confirm know which one is the Trim that has 90% Polyester and 10% Spandex at the England 2010 away jersey. The sleeves! Confirm already.

Luckily this EIRE kit doesn't have tight sleeves like the England Away. Baggy but not as baggy as the england home because the EIRE kit sleeve's has cuffs.

Looking at the washing tags:

It's Made in Thailand.... Hmmmm...

How does it look on me?

user posted image

Not bad...

Overall.. to summarize up things.. here's jerseyman ratings about the jersey:

Design: 4 out of 5 (I really like the V neck and cuffs on the collar.. old skool.. but disappointed with the sponsors on the front)
Material: 4 out of 5 (love the cotton+polyester material.. doesn't feel hot wearing it)
Cutting: 4 out of 5 (made me look thinner)
Comfortness: 4 out of 5 (very comfy to wear)
Overall: 4 out of 5

The template was ordered as a bulk (need to order more than 10) by the members of my-fjc forum from sporting ID.

Or else, you have to DIY and create your own.

Print the picture below

Nope. Of course not, you can see it's half circle.

Here is the photo of the rugby shaped template:

Enlarge it to A4 size.

For the EPL namesets.. use the rugby shaped template. Only if the name is too long like VAN DER SAR, use half circle one.

Guys.. if you want to buy jerseys online.. either from online stores like kitbag, subside or even at ebay using paypal.. now you can use your Maybank ATM Debit Card. Here's how...

Taken from My-FJC forum:

How To Use Your Maybank ATM Debit Card To Buy Jerseys Online

Hello again my fellow friends...

OK this guide is for Malaysians who have Maybank Accounts and who want to use their Maybank ATM Debit Card to shop online. This is useful because to help you guys avoid using your credit card, you can opt for using debit cards instead. For those who have maybank accounts, you guys have one option to buy jerseys online (at ebay, United Direct, Kitbag, Subside etc etc) which is to use the Maybank ATM Debit Card.

Ok to those who have the normal ATM card as shown below:

user posted image

You can go and convert you ATM card into a Visa Debit card. Go to any maybank branch and request to convert it into this card:

user posted image

They will charge you RM12 from you maybank account. There are a lot of benefits as well from the Maybank ATM Debit Card, for example you can use it at any stores that accepts VISA. You can even use it overseas and abroad, just call maybank hotline number to enable overseas purchasing (also use it to withdraw money from the ATM Machine overseas). Anyway.. once done you can start using it for online shopping (ebay, paypal, kitbag etc etc).. Here's how:

Step 1: Register your Maybank ATM Debit Card's MSOS Feature at Maybank2u.com

1. Go to Maybank2u.com and enable something called 'Maybank Secured Online Shopping' or MSOS. To do so, login to your maybank2u account and search for 'Maybank Secured Online Shopping Registration'. Then click onto it:

user posted image

2. Later, after clicking it, you will see this:

user posted image

At the 'Select Card', make sure that the card number (4xxxxxxxxxxx) is the same number as shown at your Maybank ATM Debit Card.

Key in a password for your card's MSOS. For the 'Personal Assurance Message' field, enter something that might make you remember what your MSOS password is and this is optional. Fill in the correct details for your Maybank ATM Debit Card's Expiry Date and CCV. Finally enter a hint and password that you can use to reset your MSOS password later.

Once done, click 'Submit'. If OK, a message will appear similar to below:

user posted image

You can also enable the MSOS Feature on your Maybank Credit Card as well... not just on the Debit Card.

Step 2: Ensure that your Maybank ATM Debit Card is Enabled

I had this funny problem when I tried to register my Debit Card at Paypal. My first attempt was a failure and Paypal gave an error message saying that the Merchant Bank Declined My Request. Because I previously lost my wallet and made a new ATM Card, the Online Purchasing system for my card was not enabled. But there is a way to ensure it is enabled. Here are the steps:

1. Go to any Maybank ATM machine. Insert your Maybank ATM Debit Card and enter your PIN number as usual. Then later you will reach to the Main Menu as shown below:

user posted image

Select 'Penukaran Had/Bahasa'.

2. Then you will see this menu:

user posted image

Select: 'Had Pembelian' since we are going to shop using this Maybank ATM Debit Card.

3. Then you will see this menu:

user posted image

Select 'Had Lain'

Then, set a limit for the maximum amount of purchasing you can do using your Maybank ATM Debit Card for every single day. You can set it to any amount. For example, I set the limit amount to 'RM500'.

Change it once.

4. After changing the 'Had Lain' value, you will see this confirmation screen:

user posted image

When this is done, not only you have set a limit for how much Ringgit (maximum) you are allow to spend in a day using your Maybank ATM Debit Card but you have enabled it for purchasing at local stores, overseas (need to call Maybank to enable it to be used at overseas) and online.

*Sorry for the quality of the ATM screen photos. I took them ad-hoc while queuing at the ATM machine (others were waiting at the back line).

After this. You can already use your Maybank ATM Debit Card to buy jerseys at online stores such as at kitbag, united direct, subside etc etc.. When you want to checkout and pay using it.. there will be this extra screen:

user posted image

This is the MSOS feature that was already enabled in Step 1. Before the online store will proceed to charge your Debit Card, the MSOS screen will appear first and ask for your MSOS password. This feature is already enabled for most Maybank Credit Cards as well.. so you will see the same MSOS screen for your debit card.

Just key in your MSOS password and then they will deduct a certain amount from your Maybank Account. What they will do is that they will roughly estimate the amount of the purchase and then delete it from your Maybank Account. 2-3 days later, once the transaction has been approve, the merchant will deduct the exact amount based on the current currency exchange rate and then refund back if the actual amount was lesser than what was deducted earlier. This also happens if you use the Maybank ATM Debit Card at overseas.

Example, from the example shown above.. I used my Maybank ATM Debit Card to buy something for £35.88. The current exchange rate is £1 = RM 5 so they will deduct RM179.40 first from your Maybank Account.

3 Days later.. the transaction has been approved and today they found out that the currency exchange is £1 = RM4.97764. So the total purchase should be RM178.59. So maybank will refund back RM0.81 (RM179.40 - RM178.59). If the difference is negative, the amount will be deducted from your maybank account. This is how shopping overseas or online using Maybank ATM Debit Card works.. So before you shop something.. ensure that the total amount left in your maybank account is sufficient and enough before you purchase using it.

To be continued..

Continued..

Ok.. that's on buying jerseys or anything else at overseas or at online stores. How about using it to buy jerseys at ebay? You can.. You can use it to buy jerseys at ebay using your paypal account. You need to add your Maybank ATM debit card into your paypal account and then link it. Here's how:

Step 3: Add and Link Your Maybank ATM Debit Card With Your Paypal Account

Since all ebay sellers are required to have paypal payment enabled, you can buy jerseys at ebay using paypal that is tied to your Maybank ATM Debit Card. Here are the steps:

1. Login to your paypal account:

user posted image

Then inside the main menu, click 'Profile' and then select 'Add/Edit Credit Card'.

2. You will then see this screen:

user posted image

Click on 'Add a Card'.

3. You will then see this screen:

user posted image

Add your Maybank ATM Card by filling in the details.. Ensure that the shipping address is correct. Then click 'Add Card'.

4. After clicking 'Add Card', you will see this screen:

user posted image

In the screen, it shows "You have successfully added a card. You can use this card to raise your spending limit.... bla bla.." This means that you have successfully added your Maybank ATM Debit Card to your paypal account.

After adding your card, what I found out is that they will charge RM1.02 to your Maybank Account. I am not sure why.. maybe this is charged for adding your Maybank ATM Debit Card to your Paypal account...

Another thing to note is that you can use the Debit Card to withdraw money as well. This feature is only available to Visa Debit or Credit Cards. But still, you can use your Debit Card to withdraw any remaining money in your paypal account. If you click the help '?' button, more information will be displayed on how to extract money from your paypal account using your Maybank ATM Debit Card:

user posted image

Anyway.. you still need to link your Maybank ATM debit card with your paypal account. Linking is vital to ensure that you are the rightful owner of the registered Debit/Credit Card in your paypal account. If you don't link it, you will be having a spending amount capped to your paypal account and you might have problems later. So, to link and confirm your Maybank ATM Debit Card, click 'Link and confirm my card' as shown in the screen below:

user posted image

What is actually happening when you Link your Debit Card to Paypal? Here's what's happening:

user posted image

As shown above.. it explains on what happens when you Link Your Credit/Debit Card. What will happen is:

a. You will then be charged USD1.95 or RM6.62 (depending on the currency exchange rate) to your Maybank Account
b. You will need to wait for 2-3 days later to check your Maybank ATM Debit Card's statement at maybank2u.com and see what is the 4 digit code stated in the statement
c. Use that 4 digit code to link, confirm and verify your Maybank ATM Debit Card
d. Paypal will later refund back the USD1.95 to your Maybank Account

So, after you've clicked the 'Link and confirm my card' you should see this:

user posted image

For safety measures, Paypal will only show the last 4 digits of your Maybank ATM Debit Card that you've previously added. Check that this is correct and the Billing Address is also correct. If yes, then click 'Save and Continue'.

Once clicked, you have charged your Maybank ATM Debit Card with USD1.95. And if you check in your maybank2u account, you can see that USD1.95 has been charged:

user posted image

5. Wait for 2-3 days, then check at maybank2u.com. Login to your maybank2u account and then in the main menu, click 'Debit Card History' and then check on the Debit Card's online statement as shown below:

user posted image

In the statement shown above.. you can see something like 'xxxxPAYPAL'. The xxxx is the 4 digit code that you need to key in at your Paypal Account to verify and confirm the Debit Card. In the example shown above, the 4 digit code is 8489.

To be continued..

6. After you have found out what is your 4 digit paypal verification code, login to paypal and in the main menu.. click 'Confirm my Debit or Credit card' as shown below:

user posted image

Later you will see this screen:

user posted image

Enter the 4 digit code (that was shown in your Maybank ATM Debit Card statement in maybank2u.com). Then click 'submit'

If all goes well, you will see this screen:

Congratulations.. You have successfully added, linked and confirmed your Maybank ATM Debit Card into your paypal account. Now you can buy jerseys from ebay using your paypal account that is linked to your Maybank ATM Debit Card. You can avoid using your Credit Card this way and is far better in terms of controlling your budget.

No lah.. I did this so that you guys don't have to rely heavily on credit cards to buy jerseys online. No more excuse of 'cannot buy jersey from ebay or united direct because i don't have credit card' anymore.

Other merchant banks debit cards also can be used actually. But since maybank is the most popular one.. and you can use this guide as a refence anyway

Wanna get Kaka and Robinho/Pato also scared, Kaka star player also not sure he gonna wear 8 or 10.

Btw is it cheaper to get the jersey + NNs printed from online, or get the jersey locally then somehow import the NNs and get it printed here?

On the verge of picking up the Brazil away, next time i step into al-ikhsan

Yes.. better wait until the world cup 2010 squad list is confirmed.. a few months from now.

Anyway.. just an update to the Guide that I wrote previously on how to use your Maybank ATM Debit Card to shop online or use it for paypal.

I've tested using my Maybank ATM Debit Card on buying something using paypal and it 100% works.

It will deduct the amount of money according to the total price of my purchase from paypal.

From what I checked... I bought something using paypal for £39.60.

Then before I clicked 'CONFIRMED'.. I check the amount of my remaining money in my maybank account = RMxxxx.xx

After I've clicked 'CONFIRMED' and the transaction went through and was successful... I checked again my remaining money in my maybank account and it has reduced to RMyyyy.yy

I checked and found out today that RMxxxx.xx - RMyyyy.yy = RM202.20

I checked at www.xe.com and today's currency exchange rate (25/3/2010):

£39.60 = RM195.66

So how much was deducted from my account was slightly higher (RM6.54). This is expected.. since using paypal, you might need to pay slightly more (in my case, around 3.3%) and this is expected.. even if you use credit or debit card.

And when I completed my paypal transaction that was tied to my Maybank ATM Debit Card, no MSOS screen appeared like when I purchased online at kitbag/united direct etc...

Conclusion: It works.

It is 100% authentic. That is how umbro replica jerseys were back in the 90s. Sometimes the jerseys have very different characteristics compared to the player issue jersey. For this jersey, the umbro logo and sharp logo is printed, man utd crest is a simple embroidered crest.

Back then, there was no fake jersey for this man utd home 94-96 which has the umbro logo or umbro tag near the collars... yet!

Anyway here's my own jersey:

You can try and remove the black dots...

Try this:

1. Look for Vanish Power 02 detergent powder. Look for it at giant, tesco.. it looks like this:

user posted image

2. Soak your jersey with warm water (air panas + air sejuk sikit) and add the detergent. Let it soak for 2-3 hours

3. Brush using a plastic brush to remove the stains.. Try first.

It's not the end of the world mate.. can still try to rectify it. good luck!

My england home is 50 and away is 48. For sure both will be different. What I can say, the away kit is slightly tighter on the sleeves but the chest measurement is not so much different.

Yeah, I knew that. Just that there is another option for him if he fails to return it for a refund.

For me.. I think that the seller should at least inform the overall condition of the jersey. Not notifying that the back has 'tahi lalat' dots is not right as well...

The england away jersey is made up of 3 different materials.

The front chest layer.. is made out of the same cotton like later as the man city jersey or england home

The sleeves are made out of spandex (lycra like material) and are tight.

i have a question here... recently, i printed EPL patches on my arsenal jersey. this is my first time applying patches by myself. i have follow all the guide post by jerseymen... but there was a problem occur... when i start ironing my patches on the jersey, one of my patch did not stick to my jersey... i put some water below the patch as told by jerseyman and iron it several time but it still not stick... when i peel the plastic cover and iron directly on top of the patch, it start 2 stick... may i know why is this problem happen?

Sometimes the glue is not strong enough. You have to press a bit when you apply them yourselves.

The best is to have a heatpress machine to do this.. if don't then you can go to shops like ali or r1 to apply them but they charge you for this.

When you peel off the plastic film, there is no cover and heat is applied directly. Hence the bonding is improves. But this is not recommended because you might ruin it if you press to hard and too hot without the plastic cover.

For sure there will be a new home and away.

Not sure if there will be a new third. Rumours that I heard is that they MIGHT re-use this season's current black away kit as this season's third.

Away kit will definitely be white. With some red and black
