Best 'Char Siew' I have tasted is Overseas Restaurant in Imbi road. But for RM120 a kg. a bit high but nice. The one in Jalan Pasar, under the tree beside the closed petrol station is also quite famous for their 'glass char siew'. There is another one I heard in Taman Salak South which is sold for RM8 a plate of 'char siew rice' and will be sold out after 3 pm.

got 1 in Ampang at shoplots next to Lorenzo. Same row as LasCarretas but at the back. Next to a bike shop.

Its like i've tasted pork and honey for the first time. That's the only place I'd go for charsiew when the cravings kick in, no where else

hmm... i tried this couple of yrs back (same place) and the captain recommended the char siew also.
its not the soft, tender half fatty type that melts in your mouth, more of the standard roasted type, done a bit better.

however, that was my last visit there as the taste was abysmal and earned that branch a permaban from me liao.

I don't do much research on Char Siew. But whenever I do crave for some Meng Kee at Glenmarie and Siu Siu, Seputeh/Robsons Height comes to my mind.

Yes Salak South Garden opposite the 7-11 , notable for the late appearance whenever lunch time for their char siew , and normally it's 3-4 tray of char siew and sold out by 2++pm , yes one of the best tasted also , not bad , melts in the mouth and yet still warm ,

dun need RM8 for a plate , just like any standard price

I think I know which siu siu you are saying. When going thean hou temple from kl through federal highway, you'd turn left and uphill to thean hou but siu siu is just located a street before thean hou that street. Its a restaurant though that operate at night. I'm not sure whether noon got open or not. Name of the street is Lorong Syed Putra Kiri
Still no verdict for the best juicy char siew? biggrin.gif

some of those muthafurckers who sell charsiew which melts in ur mouth are arseholes. they put sodium bicarbonate (meat tenderiser) when marinating the char siew then they roast. When you eat it, it taste so damn good. I found out about from a friend who sells good char siew. Can't mention stall name la. But u should see the AMOUNT of baking soda he puts into the marinade. Could very well melt my intestines.

Not all 'siew lap' people use soda larr! Don't generalise. Some lazy one does. Normally char siew has to be marinated 3 days in the fridge to tenderise it. Some wants fast results so they add soda into it. Some marinate with dark soya sauce as this contains soda also.
But if you can find char siew using pork belly (far lum) then there's no need to tenderise it as the fat when roasting will make the char siew melts in your mouth. But too expensive to use as consumers sure 'marah' for a plate of char siew rice costing RM6. I wanted to try once but went againts doing it. Overseas Resstaurant uses the 'far lum'.

actually i tot FSF is quite good, char siew zai depends on the cut they give u, sometimes they give u measly cut and sometimes they give u good parts. smile.gif

meng kee not so nice already. n i like ah khai's chunky cut.

it all boils down to personal preference because unlike the caramelized version with sweet sticky sauce, Choon Yien’s version is simmered with some soy based gravy and sprinkled with garlic crust.

Hi,

I love char siew too and there's 2 great stalls at Cheras selling great char siew. I've add the link. One is at Jalan Peel, near Carrefour, there's a petrol station (Shell, if not mistaken) and not far from Shell, is this Kar Kar Loi stall. Apart from selling char siew, they also sell lovely Lou Chue Yoke (braised pork).

http://patrickyong.spaces.live.com/Blog/cn...!2564.entry

2nd stall is Uncle Meng, located at taman shamelin. Link as below.
