Press the 3 buttons from left to right (power, up, down (or down, up, forgot the second button is up or down) ), then the decoder is boot itself and check for auto-update. If I not mistaken, current firmware is 23-Dec-2009.

Do that as soon as you turn on the box. My experience tells me to repeat three to four times from power up until the screen show that it's updating. I also notice that HDCP error can happen if using bad/broken HDMI cable. Try different cable and see if that helps if the problem still persists.

Ok, what I did.

First, I switch off the mains and unplug the decoder and count to 10. Then I plug back and switch on the mains.
As soon as I switch on the mains, I start pressing the three buttons on the main panel from left to right repetitively (and quickly) until the TV screen show the updating message.

"Once every 5 minutes we send a signal to all the B.yond decoders which lets them know what the latest software version is. Your decoder can only act upon this signal if it receives it while in standby mode, so when you aren’t watching anything be sure to put your decoder in standby."
