Since the usual news channels seem surprisingly quiet about this, here's an early heads up:
http://www.crossfire.nu/?x=news&mode=item&id=5254

I'm sure crashtec/Auricom will be posting in the CoD4/CS forums about this sooner or later with more details. This is a huge milestone for the Asian FPS community.

This is now unofficially officially the pre-press release discussion thread for CoD4.

I'm hearing down the pipeline that there's going to be group stages, so it's going to be a whole bunch of games at the start within a group, then the top of each goes to the knockout stage.

It's been what a lot of folks have been contemplating already, although never managed due to time/resource constraints. This way with your registration fee you are guaranteed at least X games in a competitive setting which is better for the community in the long run in terms of competitive experience, etc.

Despite the venue being a cafe rather than a site specifically set up for the event (i.e. WCG qualifiers, etc) I believe the coverage is going to be huge, as well. And of course, BlitZone is an amazing cyber cafe with very very few technical problems as of late. You guys should definitely go check the place out on a semi-regular basis all the way up to March to reduce the 'home ground/familiarity advantage' of the teams who are already based there. ;p

I'm trying to go to sleep but get the feeling that I won't till I get this off my chest. I didn't initially want to get directly involved anymore, but I doubt I can have a good conscience till I say some things that absolutely need to be said.

CIC7 in Netherlands has an interesting history up to this point. It's the first major EU LAN prominently featuring CoD4 since the entire i38 MW2 travesty (you can google that for more information). When it was announced, the EU community had a deadline. 10 teams to be registered by 1st Jan, or the event wouldn't take place.

Guess what? They surpassed that, despite the dismal state the community was in at the end of 2009. Not only that, they completely blew everyone's expectations out of the water, with 48 teams now signed up (and we're talking about 48 serious teams, not just lol lets go there and play teams)

As a result of that resurgence, we have new projects formed via the EU parties calling the shots - Vita Nova, which aims to standardize/globalize a ruleset for CoD4 and promote it to the multitude of gaming organizations, as the preliminary step to global competition. We have Enemy Down, an EU league that's supposed to solve a lot of the shitty problems with the current de-facto CoD4 league (Clanbase). We have new maps. We have talks of updates to the mod (questionable, but the fact that effort is being taken is highly motivational). We have talks of huge, recurring LANs throughout the entire year, making 2010 even brighter than 2008 was for CoD4, in Europe.

This all happened because a small bunch of people took the initiative to figure out how they were going to get to Enschende in March, digged out the registration fee, booked transport/housing/etc, and managed to overcome that 10 team deadline.

I know it's really short period of time, but it's really up to the Malaysian (and Asian) community to show that we're worthy of being considered peers for what they're doing over there. Sure, there aren't gaming orgs here, nor sponsorhip on a large scale, but if -some- people don't take that first step and make things happen, NOTHING will happen.

There are talks of in future a true world championship for CoD4. There are talks of holding recurring Malaysian and Asia regional LANs, with sponsors slowly being brought in to sweeten the pot. There are talks of actual widescale coverage and/or shoutcasting. There are talks of holding an Asian regional online league alongside tek-9's current European Enemy Down league. There are talks of integrating Malaysia (and Asia) into the Vita Nova project at the organizational and administrative level. There are talks of keeping Asia solidly in the loop when it comes to ruleset/maplist changes, along with us having a say in what happens in the future.

All this isn't going to come to pass if we have to cancel CIC7 Malaysia (which itself was already a miracle that we were given the go ahead) which isn't going to reflect well to the EU community, at all.

It's really now up to you guys' if you want to see this as a new start to something bigger for 2010 CoD4 and register early for once, or we can just forget it and devolve into asking everyone to spam facebook (....) for a completely f***ing meaningless fan count so that everyone can win Razer lanyards.

Malaysia has been one of the cores alongside Philippines and Singapore for spearheading the direction CoD4 in Asia takes. This is your challenge. How much do you want it?

Events in Planning:

Crossfire Duel 1vs1 (tiered)
Crossfire Doubles 2vs2 (tiered)
Crossfire Monthly Cup - 8 Teams Max (Online - open to countries) Est. 150 USD prize pot

Stay tuned for these events in the upcoming website
www.crossfire.my (NOT READY YET LAAAAAAA)

What does tiered mean?
After CIC7, teams will be separated into tiers based on performance. A tiered event will mean that each player will only be able to compete with players within the same tier. This also goes for any tiered team tournaments . There are 3 Tiers, Tier 1 (Top Seeds), Tier 2 and Tier 3 (Entry Level). Instead of "Banning" pro teams, they will compete amongst themselves until teams from other tiers become capable of being "upgraded" to a higher tier.

A team is upgraded/downgraded depending on their performance throughout a tournament/league or cup, a system which is currently being built by VITANOVA. This will give a chance for players within each tier to prove themselves against others on the same level.

What happens if my team recruits a Tier 1 player but we are a tier 3 team?
After leaving Tier 3, a player will never be in tier 3 ever again unless he/she has been inactive for a full year or through drastic changes in a mod/system or through horrid losses through multiple tournaments/leagues.
Having a tier 1 player in a tier 3 team will result in the tier 3 not able to compete in a tiered tournament. This restriction is removed on a non-tiered tournament (Open to all tiers).

What do the tiers mean and how do i get there?
Tier 1 : Top Seeds - solid performance, podium placings(1-3), little to no change in lineup - max 8 teams
Tier 2 : Solid performance but no podium placings (4-12) - max 16 teams
Tier 3 : Entry level, New Teams, Unknown Teams - no maximum number

Why bother be in tier 1, i can tapau tier 3 teams what!
In tournaments with group stages, Tier 1 teams benefit from not having to meet other Tier 1 teams within the same group, giving them a higher chance for the prize pot. All top seeds will be separated into different groups together with Tier 2 and Tier 3 groups.

In tournaments with non-group stages, Tier 1 teams will never meet another tier 1 team in the first round, unless all 8 teams are tier 1.

Tier 1 tournaments or tournaments that consist of Tier 1 teams will always have a larger prize pot, due to their registration requirements.

Past, Present & Future
Past teams that are no longer active and reactivate will be placed in Tier 3 if :

1. They left before the Promod era
2. They have been inactive for over a year

Past teams that are no longer active and reactivate will NOT be placed in Tier 3 if:

1. A majority of the former members joined other teams competitively
2. A majority of the members are from current competitive teams

Present teams that have taken the podium more than once in past events are automatically Tier 1 teams.
Present teams that have never taken podium or have not taken podium more than once are automatically Tier 3 teams.
There are no Tier 2 teams in CIC7.

This will determine the seeding for future events smile.gif

Change Log
2nd of March 2010
Section 16 of the R&R has been updated to reflect the changes from CIC7 Holland & sanctioned by VITANOVA.

QUOTE
16. Cheating
16.1 All players are forced to record in-eyes demos. No 3rd party program (e.g.
Powerstrip, Rivertuner etc.) or scripts/configging (e.g. nadescripts, weapon_next, macros
etc. including configs that change commands/rates. These commands range from set
nade binds to gain the longest throw to scripting a superior firing rate of semi-automatic
weapons. This also includes multi-command binds such as bind MOUSE2 "toggleads;
+attack on scroll wheel".) are not allowed during matches. Any trace of scripts found in
a mp_config will be considered a violation of the rules and will be sanctioned according to
10.2.

16.2 If a player is caught cheating the entire team will be instantly banned from the
tournament.

16.3 Clipping/selfspeccing is not allowed. Clipping/selfspeccing is when a player can
manipulate him/herself so that he or she can see over (or through) particular walls. The
Referees have full discretion to determine if clipping was involved. Violations will be
sanctioned according to 10.2.

16.4 Game exploits such as boosting and bouncing are allowed to a certain degree.

• Boosting: only allowed to boost players to spots where a player can get to by
themselves. Boosting by shooting own players is not allowed and will be
sanctioned according to 10.2.

• Bouncing: only allowed to bounce to placer which you can reach without bounces
aswell. Boucing to roofs and balconies which are unreachable in a normal way is
prohibited and will be sanctioned according to 10.2

16.5 Players are allowed to edit their mp_config file in their player directory. Players are
not allowed to have any other configuration files inside this directory. Any other
configuration files found will be considered a violation of the rules and will be sanctioned
according to 10.2.

Just to clarify,

1. In Strike, Attack spawn boosting allowed?

2. In general, boosting teammate while he is strafe jumping on uneven grounds, not glitching etc.
