Greetings all vivaz owner xD..

I have just updated my vivaz firmware to version R2EA021..
but currently that version is only made available to certain countries.

it seems a bit faster than my previous firmware which is R2CA024

let us share some info on our precious phone applications:

games:
- uno hd
- marblemaze2
- blockGO
- let's golf hd
- block breaker deluxe 2 hd

applications:
- garmin mobile xt 5.00.60 (you all know)
- phonetorch (useful to make use of flash led as torch)
- msdict v7.01 (dictionary - need to install additional dictionary such as collins, thesauraus)
- TTpod (hear music - can play songs in the folder accordingly)
- ucweb browser v7.4.10081915
- slideunlock v2.10 (very nice locking phone ui)
*
Thanks for sharing. Is yours original or AP set? Do you know if the update would work on the Vivaz Pro?

Oh yes, almost forgot. Does anybody got the KL Traffic app working in their Vivaz? I tried to download it from Ovi but it says it cannot download because I don't have a compatible phone. whistling.gif

Perhaps an external link of that app would be helpful because all I find is that it points back to Ovi.

Ok, replying to myself. rolleyes.gif

I found out a way to do it and fooling Ovi store to think that my phone is a Nokia 5800 by changing the user agent on the browser.

Chanced upon the Iphonesque app from the link below;

http://sonyericsson-vivaz.blogspot.com/201...eb-browser.html

Thanks to it, I now have the KLTraffic app on my phone. Not that it's a very useful app given the cameras being offline most of the time but indeed it's something I wanted to have on my Vivaz. smile.gif

Guys, I just bought the Vivaz, cool phone!!

It is so light that I don't feel it in my shirt pocket, and nice camera too.
*
Yup, agreed. Coming from the K810, the phone feels very light and flat in the pocket.

Shouldn't the R2EA023 version be better than R2EA021?

If I'm not wrong, I saw people sending their SE phones in the Sony Centre located at Oval LG of 1 Utama new wing. I think they have a small service centre there at the back.

Why need to send to SE centre when you can download and update yourself? Back in the old days when I had the Ericsson T39, we had to go to the service centre simply because firmware updating could not be done from the web. Oh, you need special data cable too if I'm not wrong.

things u should know before updating your fon:-

1. backup your fon using PC Suite.

2. make sure your fon battery is charged to at least 50%

3. make sure u have a good internet connection
here are the steps :-

1. go to SEUS download page

2. download the file

3. install it on your computer

4. restart your machines (both computer and phone) -->for fon remove your battery and reinsert it. DO NOT turn it on..

5. plz make sure u have a good internet connection 1st before u proceed with the next step.

6. run SEUS on your computer and  follow SEUS instructions and requirements. smile.gif
*
Thanks buddy. I'm using the original Vivaz Pro. Sony Ericsson PC Companion says my phone is updated but downloading the SEUS app confirms that there is an updated firmware for the phone.

Originally the software shows the following;

PDA Software Version: 1232-0380_R2CA024
Phone Software Version: 1232-0559_R2C008
CDA Version: 1238-8946_R2A
SVN Version: 35

After updating, it shows the following;

PDA Software Version: 1232-0380_R2EA023
Phone Software Version: 1232-0559_R2D004
CDA Version: 1238-8946_R3A
SVN Version: 51

Everything went smoothly. Just that I needed to google around and install the SEMC USB Flash driver.

Haven't had the time to play around with the phone lately. Still learning and discovering what the phone can do.

Oh, the other thing I got with my Vivaz Pro is the MW600 Bluetooth. Nice and works flawlessly with the Vivaz.

Hi there...
I actually planning to buy Vivaz Pro... So, may I ask y'all opinion, what is the advantages and disadvantages between Vivaz Pro and Vivaz?
Sorry for my "newbie-like" question.. =.="
*
If you do a lot of SMS, the physical QWERTY keyboard on the Vivaz Pro is very useful.

Other than that, the Vivaz feels slimmer and lighter on the hand than the Vivaz Pro. Not much but the difference can be felt.

8 MPixel vs 5 MPixels camera.

More colour choices on the Vivaz. Only two colours for the Vivaz Pro.

Anyway, what I noted on my wife's Vivaz is that there are some games available on it that does not appear on my Vivaz Pro. I thought they would be the same... hmm.gif

Oh, you get a stylus, a leather casing and a desktop stand on the Vivaz that you do not get on the Vivaz Pro.

For Garmin, Do we need to update the map?

If yes, how?

regards,
*
Yes. You need to update to get the latest POIs and roads. A GPS is as good as the map it's using.

Assuming if you've installed the Garmin Mobile XT in your memory card, put the latest version of the gmapsupp.img file into the \Garmin folder.

u guys face tis prob? i only face tis prob once i updated the software...
*
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I faced this problem and found out that you need to disable the phone to display contact from the SIM memory.

Contacts / Options / Settings / Contacts to Display

Just leave the option checked for Phone Memory.

Of course I assumed you have copied all contacts from the SIM card into your Phone Memory.

Your problem should be solved.

Thanks for the info. Surprised that it's sanctioned by Sony Ericsson themselves.

From what I've read, those not satisfied with the Vivaz would be satisfied with the SPB Mobile Shell. I believe the latest version is at v3.7.498. The thing is what is you don't like it? Any way of reverting back to the default Sony? I know a hardware reset would make all softwares (including the others you have previously installed) dissappear but would just like the SPB Mobile Shell dissappear.

Anyway, some of you might have seen this but I thought this is one of the better Vivaz reviews out there;

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_vivaz-review-447.php

Although slightly old (prior to the latest R2EA023 firmware update), it still has loads of info there for those who are new to the Vivaz.

At last after weight the pros and cons, I finally bought VIVAZ PRO!  rclxm9.gif
Yeah, I do type/sms alot and I'm looking forward to use Twitter with my phone.  Even though the camera is not 8MP but I think it should be fine with me.

Any advice for the first time user here?  sweat.gif
I guess I'll have to look through again from each pages for useful advices  rclxub.gif

Oh ya.. I got a question to ask, I saw that in my Vivaz Pro in Google application they have this terms that need to be accepted (before using it I guess).  It seems that I didn't see our country on the list. So should I just click and use other country like China or Brunei?  icon_question.gif
*
Congrats ! White or black? The only reason my wife went with the Vivaz is the colour. She loves the Venus / Ruby Red colour. rolleyes.gif

I went with the Vivaz Pro primarily for the keyboard. I was more into the 720p HD capture and did not care so much about the 5MP since I have a proper camera. Snapping pics on the phone for me is meant for quick non-serious pics.

Advise? I'm a newbie too. Depends on what you're into. Seems that a lot of people recommend Garmin Mobile XT. I find it not too bad.

Seem like this is something which is totally un-expected from SE on putting the SPB Mobile Shell onto Vivaz/Vivaz Pro. But I also wondering, for those like us who already purchased the Vivaz without this SPB Mobile Shell, how are we going to install it onto the phone? Via the SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) ? Because for sure the SPB Mobile Shell website won't provide this update.
*
You install via the .sis file. Not from SEUS since it's a totally 3rd party application.

As long as you get it for Symbian S60V5, it should be good.

There is a S60V5 version. Use that one since S60V5 supports touchscreen.

3. SPB Mobile Shell has a bug that's major to me : the clock is not updated when the screen is locked, and the screen is dim when locked, so it's hard to see the clock under sunlight. Solution : install Slide Unlock, which functions like Iphone's "Slide to Unlock".
Great sharing. I tried the Screen Unlocker and while it was cool, I found that it drained a lot of battery. More so on my wifey's Vivaz. Not so on my Vivaz Pro. Perhaps need to try the latest version.

9. I wish there's an auto-rotating QWERTY keyboard for both landscape & portrait orientation. It's a pain to change the keyboard type most of the time. The closest keyboard mod that can do this is DayHand Input, but the setting is in Chinese, howto disable T9 when I type in Bahasa Malaysia?
That is why I opted for the Vivaz Pro. Anyway, to disable T9, go to Settings, Phone, Language and select Predictive text to off.

That's right but I believe AGPS is enabled by default.

Anyway, I kinda of get the feeling that this would not really answer the original poster's question because if he's using Garmin Mobil XT (I'm guessing), chances are it would not detect AGPS on the get go.

What problems are you facing? I did face some glitches initially. When typing SMS, the keyboard acts weird when I press the shift key to capitalise. It brings me to another menu. Also, at times some programs were not aware that I was using slide out keyboard and popped up the virtual keyboard on the screen instead when I touched the field on the screen to start typing.

I finally found out the culprit by mistake. I stopped using Slide Unlock program as I thought it was draining battery (which it was) and suddenly my problems with the keyboard also solved !

For your case, it could be due to some software you installed?

It's actually "smart" to ask the user if bluetooth is required to be switched on when the Garmin is used. That would mean you can take calls with a bluetooth device when you're using the phone as navigation. I only noticed it was a convenience when I was using it in the car.

Make sure Internal GPS is selected.

You need to check how it is done but Garmin requires some .unl files to be in the directory in order for Garmin to automatically use the built-in GPS of the Vivaz.

What was wrong with your phone that needed to go back to SC?

Good news, you do not need to uninstall Garmin to have better battery lasting. I googled around found that there is a background service by Garmin that drains the battery for most of the Vivaz users, you just need to remove that processes called "TSRAutoStart.exe", then you will see significant different of your battery last.
Launch JBak Taskman you will see this process, is very simple to do, just START GarminMXT goto Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services and change to ENABLED.
EXIT GarminMXT, re-start GarminMXT and goto Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services and change to DISABLED...

Recheck that TSRAutoStart.exe still in JBak Taskman. crap rclxms.gif

Great tip and interesting find. Thanks. Will check it out. Perhaps there's now a need to install the task manager.

Are you trying to connect to your own Wifi or you're trying to connect to Wifi in public places? I find Wifi at public places crappy at best.

Also, if the base is transmitting in Wifi N, you'll get problems. The phone only connects to Wifi G.

I tried uploading a 40MB video file through Youtube using the phone's Wifi and it was surprisingly fast.

No idea which stage you are stuck at. Can you try to connect to the USB port of your computer / notebook and have Sony PC Companion detect the phone?

If you can, then you can click to the Support Zone and proceed to Update your phone. There will be a window to say if your firmware is updated. I assume it is and you will have an option to Repair the software.

Good luck. If the Sony PC Companion cannot access the phone, the only way is to get back to Sony Centre to get it checked.

No keypad? All full touchscreen phones do not have physical keypad. They have virtual keypad. Or were you referring to keyboard? If that is what you want, the Vivaz Pro uses a slide out keyboard where you can type numbers and SMS. You can also opt for the virtual keyboard on the Vivaz Pro if you wish. The Vivaz (without the Pro) has a virtual keyboard and keypad.

For music, the loudspeaker is a little small. But are you the sort who plays music for everyone to hear? whistling.gif I don't mind the speaker being weak as I dislike people who blast their music out in the open for everybody to hear. They designed headphones for this. Paired with a good headphone, music is very acceptable.

The other con people are saying is that the lack of front video camera for video conferencing. Personally for me, it's not a con since I don't use or receive video calls.

Anyway, I don't live in a kampung but yet I don't find not having video calls something limiting.

I believe currently the price is about RM 1100 thereabouts if I'm not wrong.

The Vivaz does not come in capacitive but resistive type touchscreen.

How did you use the Vivaz as GPS? In the car? Using Garmin XT?

So far I've always used it only in the car. Time to connect is slightly slower than my standalone Garmin 205W. I use it side by side to check and once locked on to satellite signal, both can navigate and update maps with same speed.

My car's tinting is not Smart Tag friendly. So imagine that even under that situation, the GPS on the Vivaz connects. I don't have problems with loss connection though. Oh, yes, I also get that 3 to 5km/hr when stationary. Perhaps it needs a little re-calibration. But once up to speed, both the Garmin 205w and the Vivaz reports correct speeds.

To make Vivaz more responsive (close to capacitive screen), I use my fingertip for pressing & swipe/slide with my nail. Of course this will wear out the screen protector faster.
Yup, I do that too.

doesnt work at all.i dont really understand how gps works,is it using the umts signal?
Strange. I use GSM signal only. Saves a lot of battery.

Well if you like this phone then buy it...who am I to stop you

Relaks lah. Don't get upset. Why are you getting upset here? This is the reason why there is a Vivaz thread and there is a X6 thread. This is not a pissing contest and we don't go around in other thread and piss at what other people are using. If your presence brings positive vibe and contribution to Vivaz users here, you're welcome to stay as long as you want.

Anyway, all phones are not perfect. So is the Vivaz. But like somebody mentioned, the pros outgun the cons and that is why people end up buying what they buy.

To each his own.

Hi guys, I got the phone about 3 months back. Recently I noticed the GPS no longer working, I got garmin in it. But never getting a signal from the satellite, even after 30 minutes. No movement on the bars under "Remote GPS". Anyone knows why?

In order for Garmin XT to work properly, you need to have the two .unl files in the Garmin directory. If not, it will not be able to use the internal GPS of your phone.

Have not tried this feature before. Do you know if anybody was successful at doing it with your own wifi connection? Perhaps wifi not enough bandwidth? unsure.gif

You probably have the contacts from the SIM card and Phone Memory checked.

Go to Menu, Contacts, Options, Contacts to display. Check only Phone Memory and uncheck SIM card.
