am in the same dilemma few weeks back about getting an avr amp.

after much deliberation, plonked down a reasonable rm1600 for Yamaha RX-V465. the RX-465 would be a good simple buy as compared to its younger brother, RX-V365.

initially the lowest price I could find for RX-V365 was RM950 in PJ. even Pioneer was next expensive and up the ladder to onkyo, denon, marantz, nad, etc. (in terms of their lowest range avr)

but try to avoid RX-V365 because it has HDMI in with video only, no audio. so unless you wish to do HD without any sound this is a budget buy.

don't waste your money for upgrade, batter you buy avr with price below rm3k you can get batter features..
just kumpul duit or you can buy with credit card 0 interest...
i don't know how much money i wasted for upgrade cannot tell.. blush.gif
but if i'm in your situation now i will buy avr with medium range price...
you have otai2 in here you and can ask which avr batter and worth for your money but pls up your budget..
Pls start with HD features (DTS-hd/DD thru hd)...this is starting

I do agree on getting a better equipment from the start to save from costly upgrade later. But I notice a lot of people in here keep get sucked into the blackhole of endless upgrade before even fully enjoy their equipments yet.

My suggesting is go audition a few equipments and buy the one you can afford and like best. Then sit down and enjoy what all this equipments are meant for.....the movies and the music. Don't go looking for weakness as no system is perfect or else you keep spending on upgrades and never really enjoy what matter most....the movies and the music.

I do agree with your opinion although I can't afford expensive HT setup. Go for the most expensive setup that you can afford so that no need much upgrade effort later. I'm now left with a cheap Panasonic AVR of which I still don't have idea what to do with it yet and I yet to upgrade my cheap speaker that came with my Panasonic AVR. smile.gif

RX-V365 is very basic AVR. Only support 6 type audio decoding format compare with RX-V465 that can support 19 type.
You also must include speaker price in your budget. smile.gif
