I also go to the embassy myself. If u r in KL, u should go urself. Otherwise, it would be expensive if use travel agency service.

So any landmark like Hotels or shopping centre nearest the embassy, I'm planning to go to the embassy this friday...

Hope its not too late to reply you, the nearest hotel would be Lanson Place, when you see the hotel on your right, turn right into the street and you will come to a small roundabout, turn left and you will see the embassy on your left. The building is not too obvious so advise u to slow down after take the turning.

I use local currency there, USD also can be used in some places such as restaurant.

Travelled to Yangon last September.
Hopefully the below will help:

4 days 3 nights trip:
1. Yangon
- The capital of Myanmar, pre-booked MotherLand Inn 2, as they provide free pick up from airport if not it will easily cost at least 2,000 - 6,000 kyatts depending how far is your hostel/hotel location. Some luxury hotel do provide free transport though. It's about USD 15 per person. Check out the rate here: http://www.myanmarmotherlandinn.com/
Overall, it's an hostel, so don't expect it to be great. But if it's just for a night stay, this place is good enough and the staff is friendly. Traditional Myanmar breakfast or American breakfast can be chosed and it's free.
- Visited Shwedagon Pagoda at night. Cant remember how much it costed, but probably around USD 5 per person? Was a weekday, not many people inside, but a lot of local sitting there just chatting and doing nothing. It feels kinda relax to just be in there. And I strongly recommend to visit at night. Morning can be hot and a lot of people. But of cuz you can always do both.
- Visit Bogyoke market if you want to shop. A lot of things to buy there and their shirt is very cheap. I think I bought less than RM 4 per shirt. Well, quality so so~~..
- Sule Pagoda: have to pay entrance fees (USD 2 or 3 per pax). Nothing much to see inside.
- Sleeping Buddha (the taxi driver will bring you there)
- The public transport is not so friendly to us because they don't speak English and even taxi driver hardly speak good English as well. So be sure to show them the map and tell them where you wanna go or just point it to them in the map. Pre-negotiate the taxi fare before you board.

2. Bagan
- Took 14 HOURS bus (from afternoon around 3.30pm to morning next day 5.30am) from Yangon bus station to Bagan OR you can take a flight. Please pay extra if you have the money, because 14 hours bus is really a torture. The coach is not like our Super VIP seat, is the normal 2+2 seat and they dun switch off their TV. The worst part is you cannot understand a single word of Myanmar language and you are forced to watch it.
- But Bagan is worth a visit. The town has few thousands of Pagoda (small + big). We hire a horse ride service for less than USD 12 for the whole day (they normally 10 hours but you can negotiate with them if you want longer hours and they are normally kind enough to do extra hours f.o.c as well). But I really pity the people here, because for the USD 10 they earn, 70% is paid to the owner, and with the USD 4.80 left, they have to support family + meals (around USD 0.50 per meal x3 = USD 1.50). So only USD 1.50 left for saving.
- You will see many kids running around selling you various merchandise (postcards/keychain/or even exchanging local currency from you).
- The driver/horse rider will bring you to anywhere you want as long as you tell them or else they can also plan for you (visit all the pagoda). This is what I did. So we stopped every few minutes because the pagoda are all located near to each other.
- You can also take a cruise at the Mandalay Jetty. Don't expect a CRUISE. It's just our sampan in Malaysia. I ran out of USD/Kyatts so I paid them RM10 or RM 15 per pax. They are happy to accept because they just want to do your business.
- We flew back to Yangon in the evening because do not want to suffer the 14 HOURS bus trip again.

3. Yangon again
- Arrived Yangon from Bagan in the evening, this time around we stayed in BeautyInn Land. This is much better as compared to MotherLand Inn and they provide American breakfast. Kadawgyi Palace
- Try our their local food at the Chinatown area

Airport is their only international standard in Yangon! Seriously! haha..

Hope you will find it helpful.
Cheers
