I disagree with playing Mascherano at rightback because with him there, Lucas has to play defensive midfield and he doesn't have the same presence Mascherano does. He was overwhelmed against Blackburn. Do remember that we were leaking goals at the beginning of the season. One reason was that we were crap at defending from setpieces but another was that Masherano was out injured. It's no coincidence that our defence suddenly got stronger when Masherano returned to the side. So while he is more than capable at playing rightback, he's needed elsewhere.

For DM quality, Mascherano is preferred, no doubt.
But in order to force RB to play 4-4-2 with Gerrard in the middle, you need either Maschearno or Lucas injured, or Mascherano plays at RB.

If not Rafa will play Mascherano and Lucas in CM, which is awful to watch most of the time (which a lot of time resulted poor performance, and lack of attacking threat)

Some of the points raised by the author are valid, but to call them overrated is just uncalled for and basically fishing for attention. Yes, Carra has always been limited in terms of footballing ability but it's his passion and determination is what earned him the admiration and "Team of Carragher" songs. The author got it all wrong there. I too would cringe if we had a back 4 of Carras, let alone 11.

Football is about teamwork, team performance.

If Liverpool field 11 Torres, proabably will lose 12-10 as well.

Each department and each player has different role to play in order to form a team.

Carra's last ditch tackle, which a lot of time has been protecting those 1-0 lead match which eventually win you the game/cup. Whether he is overated or not, I don't know. But he is a indeed a loyal and well serve to the team.

"A great defender but not a great footballer" - I dont understand this line. great defender but not footballer. Can same goes to Messi and Ronaldo - great forward but shite at defending.
though glen johnson more suit for a winger not fullback.

Err..... like that, how about GK, they hardly kick the ball generally, they only catch ball with their hand and block shot once awhile in a match, won't score you a goal either.

Lucas' tackling skill WILL NEVER be on par with Masch. The only improvement I see from Lucas (for now) is he is more daring in making thru passes which some of them happen to be quite decent.

In terms of holding ball, winning ball, tackling like a real man, Lucas didn't improve one bit. He lose ball in his own half, he hardly win us any ball and he still tackles like sissy.

Just because he did improve doesn't mean he improve all his weak areas.

This is what urgently needed from CM area. Defensively, got Masherano to cover already, what really missing is playmaker and central midfielder that can dictate the match temp, send thru passes, diagonal long ball which controlling the midfield.

Benitez not yet prepared to risk Aquilani inclusion

I don't think Aqualani can get starting for the rest of this season if continue like that.

Either the match is too physical or cannot afford to play him. sweat.gif doh.gif

Don't think 4th place is achievable now.

Villa has 3 games in hand. City 2 games in hand and Liverpool not yet facing MU and Chelsea and next league game is going to be another tough one, against Pompey (lose 2-0 previously). wink.gif

What no chance? How many ppl think Man C who struggled in away games...can beat Chelsea by so big margin in Stamford Bridge??

Football is round, anything can happen.  rclxm9.gif

Yes, football is round, but if you played poorly, no matter how round is the football, you cannot win games.

I don't watch the Wigan game, but from statistic, Liverpool has zero shot on target, so even you have 90% possession and the ball is super round, you won't win any game with this kind of statistic or poor display/performance.

It is not just the result is worrying, the main issue is continously poor performance.

If the performance is decent and ok, then yes, still got hope. But with continously playing poorly, then even with 10 points ahead of the rest rival of 4th place, there is nothing to be optimistic about it.

One thing I can find consistency in Liverpool team is in term of poor performance even in some matches that manage to win one.

It has been months, we never see Liverpool manage to show good display or performance on the field.

There is consistency in negativity in term of performance, be it mentality, determination and confidence. It is a 180 degree change as compared to last season. Something are really not right behind the dressing room.

dude, u cannot compare those one-off games to under performing for the best part of a season.
True that Liverpool suffered from the lost of Xabi Alonso as a deep lying playmaker, but that shouldn't be a major factor, given Liverpool's credentials.

Injuries too happen to every team in the top 4. Its just a matter of other squad players... be it Lucas or Ngog to take up the responsibility and cover for them. You cannot compare and expect them to go what Gerrard or Torres does every week, but for them to fill the gaps and make the lost of the stars not so bad. Like how Mikel covers of Essien in Chelsea.

Sometimes being patient with players is good. Last season Arsenal fans are calling for Diaby's and Eboue's head. This season, they are like some of the more important squad players for them.

Be in monetary issues or management issues, but still, spending some 20M on a player who is deemed as the next best thing, to sit on the bench is quite ridiculous. IMO

Last year, when Alonso injured and not available time, Liverpool doesn't suffer as what happening now.

It is more about the 'soft' side issue, like morality, determination, confidence, losing manager trust etc, which might happen behind the dressing room. Just my guess.

But it is frustate to hear, 20 million signing is not ready, too physical for him, cannot afford to start him due to cannot afford to make mistake etc. <--- if I were the person, for sure my confidence will be affected. Just speaking from my pov, I don't know whether how others feel on this issue.

Every week, it is almost predictable line-up, and predictable tactic.
I remembered when Rafa first come to Liverpool, line-up is highly unpredictable, and rotation every week. Now every week almost certainty line-up.

bcos long ago rafa had been criticised for rotation every week  biggrin.gif

I have no problem for certainty line-up week in week out, as long as team performance is decent.

The problem is that we had seen poor performance month in month out already.

I would prefer to see doing the talk on the pitch.

Keep on saying cannot make mistake, work hard , cannot afford to lose etc. won't be a morale boost for the players, instead should answer all critic on the pitch.

Tell you what guys. This is like the 5th consecutive away game we've failed to score in. To be really honest, defeats are starting to hurt less and I'm not so sure it's a good thing. Part of me just wants to fast forward the entire season because we've very little to play for. Another part of me believes in fairy tales and miracles, and it would be nothing short of a miracle if we finish fourth or end up winning the Euro League.

Liv is having goal draught lately especially for away match.

It it norm to lose especially in away matches. Already get use to see losing and poor performance.

Any away match, before kick off, I always expect either 0-0 draw or lose.

Season until now, in league, only match to win 4 away matches.
