I disagree with playing Mascherano at rightback because with him there, Lucas has to play defensive midfield and he doesn't have the same presence Mascherano does. He was overwhelmed against Blackburn. Do remember that we were leaking goals at the beginning of the season. One reason was that we were crap at defending from setpieces but another was that Masherano was out injured. It's no coincidence that our defence suddenly got stronger when Masherano returned to the side. So while he is more than capable at playing rightback, he's needed elsewhere.

Some of the points raised by the author are valid, but to call them overrated is just uncalled for and basically fishing for attention. Yes, Carra has always been limited in terms of footballing ability but it's his passion and determination is what earned him the admiration and "Team of Carragher" songs. The author got it all wrong there. I too would cringe if we had a back 4 of Carras, let alone 11.

Lucas' tackling skill WILL NEVER be on par with Masch.The only improvement I see from Lucas (for now) is he is more daring in making thru passes which some of them happen to be quite decent.

In terms of holding ball, winning ball, tackling like a real man, Lucas didn't improve one bit. He lose ball in his own half, he hardly win us any ball and he still tackles like sissy.

Just because he did improve doesn't mean he improve all his weak areas.

True that Liverpool suffered from the lost of Xabi Alonso as a deep lying playmaker, but that shouldn't be a major factor, given Liverpool's credentials.

Injuries too happen to every team in the top 4. Its just a matter of other squad players... be it Lucas or Ngog to take up the responsibility and cover for them. You cannot compare and expect them to go what Gerrard or Torres does every week, but for them to fill the gaps and make the lost of the stars not so bad. Like how Mikel covers of Essien in Chelsea.

Sometimes being patient with players is good. Last season Arsenal fans are calling for Diaby's and Eboue's head. This season, they are like some of the more important squad players for them.

Be in monetary issues or management issues, but still, spending some 20M on a player who is deemed as the next best thing, to sit on the bench is quite ridiculous. IMO

Tell you what guys. This is like the 5th consecutive away game we've failed to score in. To be really honest, defeats are starting to hurt less and I'm not so sure it's a good thing. Part of me just wants to fast forward the entire season because we've very little to play for. Another part of me believes in fairy tales and miracles, and it would be nothing short of a miracle if we finish fourth or end up winning the Euro League.
