Just curious if there is difference in upgrading the interconnect?

As for Co-axial, better constructed one would yield better performance but does this matter with the Toslink?

are you sure? for me when it's come to digital as long as got sound it should be the same.

Unless the cable is longer maybe can consider using higher price cable.. if just 1-2m, i think below RM50 should be enough.

as far as TOSlink goes, glass > plastic

I use this one from eBay (1m US$19, 2m US$24 and 3m US$29)

this is a review of a Glass TOSlink cable from another manufacturer (or perhaps the same manufacturer), and there's a discussion about the eBay glass Toslink at Agoraquest

The built quality is very important. I have had many broken optical cables not because of my mishandling but it just failed by itself. And 1 thing, do not bend nor tie the cable tight.

i bought a Carrefour brand toslink cable last time, around RM10/20 i think... but the head doesn't lock in the toslink ports of both my amp and WDTV. i have to properly wedge something against it to keep it in place. it worked for some time and then after a while it quit giving sound. the tip of the fibre cable seemed very poorly cut, like using nail clippers to cut it.

then i bought a RM120 Philips cable from the garage sale section and it works ok... more sturdy jack head and solid thick cable.

OK, Heading to Carrefour and see if can get the correct coat hanger. Then will plan for a shoot-out between the cable......

Actually I am raising this discussion to actually gather feedback from those who had actually gotten onto the path and ACTUALLY upgraded.. Doesnt care from RM10 to RM50 or up to RM5,000.

Just curious on toslink... There is so much, in fact too much people talking side in either the analog vs digital cable debate.. so see this one that is not metal based (no 99% oxygen free argument), bit/byte argument (hdmi mostly) and inteference issue (shielding thingy). Toslink is based upon a blinking red light so shield from what?

Ok, if I manage to get the proper coat-hanger then I will do an invite for the shoot-out, unless there is someone here that can get the correct coat-hanger....
