A brief comparison between the htc HD2 and Nexus One. I decided to post this due to many requests from my friends about this topic. Firstly there is NO best phone between the 2 of them. It all boils down to your needs. Both phones has its pros and cons. Overall I still prefer the htc HD2 due to my needs and this does not mean the Nexus One is a poorer choice.

I have set a rating of 10 ( being the best ) and 1 ( Poorest) as just a guide to the features. Again this is my own opinion - no "flaming" please

Question:
1. Can the Nexus One replace my htc HD2 ?? : YES if I do not have a better choice
2. Is Iphone better than Nexus : My opinion positive NO ; given a choice I prefer the Nexus than the iPhone ; I also have a iPhone and mostly I use only for podcasts/ audio books only

OK now to the comparison:

CPU Specs : Same for both - Qualcomm SnapDragon QSD8250 1 GHz
Overall performance: Nexus ( 9 ), HD2 (10)

Screen Display : Nexus - Amoled capacitive 480x800 pixel 3.7 in ( 10) ; HD2 - TFT capacitive 480x800 pixel 4.3" ( 8)

3G/HSPDA signals pickup : Nexus ( 7) , HD2 (10)

Alert/Notifications : Nexus ( 10 ), HD2 ( 7 ) due to Nexus trackball features

Soft Keys reliability/performance : Nexus ( 7 ), HD2 ( 10 )

WiFi performance : Comparable not much difference between the 2

Sound : Nexus ( 7 ), HD2 ( 10 )

Scrolling smoothness : Nexus ( 10 ), HD2 ( 8 )

Installation flexibility : Nexus ( 5 ) , HD 2 ( 10 ) : For HD2 you have a choice to install onto internal memory or SD card while Nexus by default all installed onto internakl memory unless you have a Apps2SD option in your rom ( to have this you need to root it and install one of the roms having this function )

SMS/MMS speed and reliability : Nexus ( 10 ), HD2 ( 8 )

Browser : Nexus ( 8), HD2 ( Opera - 10 ; builtin default Explorer - 5 )

Camera : Nexus ( 10 ), HD2 ( 8 )

GPS pickup : Nexus ( 10 ), HD 2 ( 9 )

Default programs functionality and features : Nexus ( 7 ), HD2 ( 10 ) : So to maximize Nexus functionality and feartures MUST root and installed one of the cook roms and replace some of the builtin programs with better alternatives found in Market

Battery Life : Nexus ( 10 ), HD2 ( 8 ) : Nexus however feels warmer with heavy use and it feels hot during charging while HD2 just feels warm

ROMs changing : Nexus ( 10 ), HD 2 ( 5 ) : Changing roms in Nexus is so simple and fast ( matter of only 2 minutes and all done thro SD card ) while HD2 process more tedious ( takes about 15 minutes ). ON HD2 once rom is change all data is completely wipeout and restoration is not 100 % usiing Sprite Backup/SpB Backup - reliability also depends on typoe of rom one choose. I rate Nexus ( 10 ) in this aspect vs HD2 ( 5 )

I am willing to answer any further questions as I am a user of both phones

QUOTE(microbe @ Mar 25 2010, 10:08 AM)
reading Version1 102pages + version2 64 pages~

i would like to ask something i'm confused about~

1st, as i'm a lite WinMo user be4 this~ so i have some reason for me to get a WinMo like HD2
in term of software, i would like to have these kind of features inside my phone:
Facebook, YouTube and Twitter
Pocket Office Maybe Note will be fine too~ but those office which can be use as the same like pc or mayb sync together would be good for my business used~
Multi-touch input method  < just wanna to try something New  flex.gif
fullflash supported web browser < i wonder can this be done in Android??  hmm.gif
i dont really care bout GPS as i already own my Garmin Nuvi~  whistling.gif ^^"
Weather is a must too~ business used~

Hardware:
Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor  wub.gif
480 x 800 pixels (currently the best~)
Camera 3.0 MP or Above~ < business used too~

so now questions come :
1. did the SMS issue fixed?? i'm not always using it but i need that~ (who doesnt need it??)

>>>> If you are buying a new unit and is rom 1.66 above - not necessary to apply fix. But if you need no harm applying. My advise is always don't apply fix unless you have such issue. My hd2 since day one on original rom 1.48 I never face such SMS issues - themn I upgraded to 1.66 and now for last 4 months on cooked roms : till today I never faced SMS problems

2. i'm using Hotlink & DiGi postpaid~ so will there have any problem if i use the DiGi for HD2 (sms issue?) So far no DiGi user had this issue right??

>>>> NO such issues on my Digi prepaid or Celcom postpaid  ;  don't think SMS is anyeay related to telco

3. Sms display in traditional mode will made the device run without the sending issue??

>>>> NO such issues - I used only traditional mode

4. Camera Pinky issue fixed?? as i always used it for work~ & i like to take photo whenever i saw a nice & looks good dishes~

>>>> Yes already fixed in rom 1.66 and above ;

5. heard something like that, camera pink tint issue is fixed by official hotfix~ but Video cant be fixed~!! & there not really fix the problem~ it's just adjusted the features of the camera black & white balance something like that to made the pink tint slightly unnoticeable only~ is that true??

>>>> I 'd say don't be too concerned ; you also hear about postive comments about the fix ; don't let negative comments affect you unlesss you think this is very important; then decision is easy - forget about buying it if you have doubts

6. Do 8gb SD & 16gb SD makes different in ur device?? Lag?? Slow??

I don't see any difference as I have earlier use 8gb and now on 16gb; all these "slow" or "fast" is subkjective . What the heck a few milliseconds matter - is it so crucial ??? Anyway I don't even notice. Talking about SD , everyone will tell you Sandisk is best - but I have now 2 spoilt 8GB Sandisk both corrupted cannot e read by PC/or my MAC ( I guess must b e I keep flashing changing roms ) after 2 months use. Now I use a cheaper chup piao brand and so much cheaper never have issues at all alreadsy 3 months and still flashing/changing roms withit

7. Some people says need to charge minimum 8 hours. if dont, what will happen next then??

>>> Is just pure nonsense. The so called 8 hours is recommended first charge and is recommended not a MUST. Soetimes we feel better as we think with a full 8 hours first charge battery can last longer - you just try yourself; anyway what is the problem charging 8 hours it is not 80 hours. Just leave it overnight when you sleep lah!

8. Some people said they cant see others comments on their facebook post.. Update Facebook thro Marketplace to latest version will fix it??

>>> Again this is nonsense as only claim by a few ; problem these few never tell you whole story on what else they have installed that could affect it or whether they were on some cooked roms which is not compatible

9. which antivirus is available for HD2?? dont really use that when previous HD~ do i really need that??

>>> I don't think is necessary

10. Hard SPL will void the warranty~ fo this can change it back to Ori SPL??
To get back ur ori SPL,
A. Download an official rom from htc
B. Extract the exe with winrar ... just take the .nbh file
C. copy the .nbh file to the sd card and rename it to leoimg.nbh
D. reboot while holding the volume down. this will restore the original spl.

>>>>> YES : you can change back to ori rom but you must undo the spl - is easy

11. Radio update will void the warranty too??

>>> Yes unless is official htc release in this region

12. Never let your phone battery drop below 10%, it will spoil the battery. i tot fully used & fully charged will active all the cells in Lithium-ion battery, not??

>>> Again is some unproved nonsense ; I ahve been using pda phones for 12 years and battery used until dead I never have battery spoil. UNLESS you buy some cheap alternative batteries

13. the micro USB head is different with previous HTC products port??

>>> THis HD2 is using micro USB ; all earlier htc models use miniUSB

14. getting extra 576MB RAM doesnt seem to run the device faster then Y ppl still looking forward for it?? ><"

>>> This 576 mb ram I feel is just a marketing ploy to attract people to use the rom ; I don't see any difference vs the ori 448MB ram. I can justify this as I have tried practically most of the popular roms claiming 576MB ram .

15. wat is the use of .NET Compact Framework 3.5 ?

>>> This is needed to run some programs ed BSB tweaks

16. Pc Fair is coming on april 1st week~ so should i wait till the times coming only purchase my lovely device or??? will they reduce the price when PC fair or after PC fair??

>>>> There is never a good time or bad time to buy. Electronic productas over time value will drop - so you decide to buy based on your need to use it. The present price is attractive considering miost of us bought in the early months of lauch at 2.6-2.8 K ; now AP sets can get for only 2.2-2.3 k and ori around 2.5k

suggestion for all HD2 user~ buying a quality leather case is needed for ur baby~
it's gonna be serious if u DROP it~ i would rather buy a case better to waste my time going SiS to pay 80dollar not refundable fees for repairing ur device!!!

full flash supported web browser still cant found in Andriod yet?? did Andriod can do whatever i want in term of software i listed above?? (even $$ware also cant reach my usage?? totally no idea @ Andriod)  rclxub.gif

about the SMS issue~ some said it's only happen few days/months of usage only it's came out~ so can i really test it when purchase??

Ap Set?? some website said that the HTC have NO AP SET for them~ so I dont really think to get a AP since i dont really know where the device come from~ ><"

i was so disappointed about the HD2 is the main issue (sms & photo)
hardware then the easy breakable glass!!! if the device without these prob. even it's RM3.3k i would definitely buying without thinking!!  whistling.gif

i tot if there will be cheaper just after 2weeks time then y not waiting for it to save some for the leather pouch??  sweat.gif

Flash support already on htc Hero and Nexus One ( Android 2.1).

If you are looking at software fuller features/functionality - Windows is your better bet ; see my posting earlier up at page 61 post # 1207 where I compared the HD2 with Nexus . I own both phones

SMS issues - if you browse the web especially in the last 1 month plus - you rarely read people posting about it ; I guess the new rom and hotfix had solve it. As I said earlier I never face this issue. I have 4 other personal friends iusing the HD2 also face no SMS issues

I'd say any phone the screen can break if you drop it hard; the HD2 screen however being capacitative is literally scratch proof . You can put in your pocket together with your keys and the screen will not be scratch unlike other phones with resistive screens

Lastly if you are more social type - and facebook, twitter , rss etc important - the Nexus One is a better choice ; it is more dynamic and fast in updating feeds and interaction

Based on your comments it is very obvious the HD2 is not suitable for you as most of your points is pointing to why you should not buy it. If you really want a windows pdaphone - your next best choice will be the htc HD which since beginning has no sms or camera issue. It is also cheaper now

The android phone eg Nexus out of the box is a very basic phone -= it is only excellent if you "hack"/or root it to expand its potential. I always tell my friends if one is willing to spend up to rm2.4k for a phone but not willing to learn how to hack/or spl/change roms - might as well get a basic Nokia and which I always highly recommend the E72 or E71.

Most buyers of wm phones buy I believe buy cos of the potential and availability of sources to play with the customization and rom which is seriously lacking in symbian ( even Android ) and worse practically unavailable in iPhone. iPhone ( which I also have) is a very good out of box phone for normal users who is not into tech issues - just use it and you need not worry about customization/hacking ( unless u want to cos one bought a locked set)). It is very good if one emphasis is on audio/video ( with limitations to iTunes sync) and it has a good browser too. It has also avenue to a huge apps market if one like to experiemnt/play with apps-games

So summarize it boils down to what you NEED in the phone and decision then is simple

and 1 more, the video recording is superb. no skip at all very smooth , once snap can also upload to FB.

My opinion - if you want a non-keyboard windows pda phone - the htc HD2 is the BEST ( if you don't mind the bigger screen) ; new users might need a few days to adapt to the capacitative screen. In the first 2 days using I was cursing at the keyboard and sensitivity of the screen . Now - there is no issue at all - I am now very comfortable using the keyboard. After installed swype is even better

From pocketnow.com : HTC has released two official updates for the HTC HD2 available on the UK Support website.

1. Update for HTC HD2 Facebook Albums
According to the description, "this update for your phone’s Facebook client restores the ability to view your friends’ photo albums". I personally never had any issues with Facebook photo albums.

2. Update for HTC HD2 Java Message Pop up
This update seems to fix a security issue by preventing "javascript messages from automatically opening when the message notification pops up. This will prevent your phone from opening unwanted and unwelcome applications that are sent to you".

If you like to have a lean clean rom, I'd highly recommend you to try Chucky : I find it very stable and has been using it and upgrading his rom since ver 2. I am now on the latest WM6.5x ver 3.9

For those who frequently change rom , doing a Task29 is highly recommended. It takes less than 5 minutes only. As I often flash roms, I do notice a great difference. If you are testing a new rom you can now safely conclude any "lag" isues ( fresh rom before install 3rd party) attributed to the new rom

I prefer this simpler method of doing task29 and flashing new rom>

1. Bootloader mode ( with unit switched off, press vol down button and off key ) - you will see tricolor screen
2. Connect phone to PC - you will see "serial" mode on screen change to "usb"
3. Run the Tsk29 exe file
4. When complete , you will see a white sv=creen and phone will stop at there as there is no rom to boot
5. Disconnect phone, take out battery , go into bootloader mode again ( step 1 )
6. Connect phone to PC ( as step 2 )
7. Run the rom flash exe RUU file
6. After flash complete and phone completed booting - hard reset it again

If you want your weather and location to be dynamic - choose "My Location" as default. The first time you set up your phone - you can select any location - Example I always use KL. The weather data and loaction will change accordingly to the town you are in. All these changes are detectedc by the inbuilt GPS . Go to SETTINGS/Location - and select ON Location Service Settings and Select HTC location service
I have been using the HD2 since launched in NOV until now , the auto detection of town/weather works excellent ; if you are still facing problems , you have to send in to check the GPS chip. I was having same problem last time on my TouchPro2 and even though it was a AP set, I sent back for service and the motherboard was replace FOC as the shop told me GPS chip cannot repaired and need to change whole motherboard

No need to uninstall ; anyway you cannot as it's builtin rom. The new MSN will just override it

Well the price drop is expected. Just look at all the recent releases and expected releases over the next few months - HTC is expecting a shift of users to their Android alternatives. The pricing of the Android sets are comparatively cheaper too - so a price drop on the HD2 is expected to clear stocks.

The expected delivery of WM7 till now is still cloaked in uncertainty mainly cos the WM7 till now is still "beta stage " and no concrete news of a confirmed working release. We have though read of certain handsets maker planning release on WM7 platform but is still all talk no show yet.

HTC will definitely be not releasing any major new sets based on WM6.5. I have been using WM pdas since the very first HP548 and I'd say the HD2 is the best non keyboard WM I have ever used. For early buyers ( same as me ) - the price drop is indeed frustrating but just take this as the price being early birds

Those cheap ones around RM 10 most probably cannot sync except charge. RM20+ is reasonable pricing

I don't think a charger will affect. I have been using non htc chargers both desk ( motorola ) and car ( mckay brand ) never have such issue

d)What are your guys opinion..Should install a custom ROM?

Hope you guys can give the info.. biggrin.gif  :

Thanks alot notworthy.gif

a) Refer here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433 . There is no simplest way - this is the only way
b) NO - warranty is void but you can always restore back before you send in ( see above link in a ) - show you how to do it
c) YES - check same site at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717. Write down first your rom version. It is also a good prac tice to download the official version and keep on file just in case you need it
d) If you ask rom freaks like us - YES YES YES. Personally the cooked rom offers you more flexibility/performance and options. However if you are satisfy with the official why bother. But if you never tried you never realize what you missed

read my post #1154 here : http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry30609164 to undersdtand benefits of flashing a cooked rom

Just copy your MP3 file into My Ringtones folder. Infact if you have the MP3 on your SD card - the HD2 will autodetect it. When you select ringtone - it will be shown as an option

Turtle_inc: I know you are new to windows mobile just based on many of the basic questions you have been asking. I suggest you read the user guide or you can easily download pdf copy ( just google) -ALL the basic steps of using the windows mobile are there. You will find spending 20 minutes reading it will enhance your usage rather than shooting questions off your hip everytime you need to know. We are most willing to help you but you should help yourself first by at least reading up the basics first
