I was wondering this possibility for ages HJere's the starhub wan..pretty interesting: http://www.starhub.com/tv.htmlFind out what satellite they use and its footprint. Given how close they are to KL I'm pretty sure we are under the footprint of their satellite. Technically yes Legally no, I'll let you deal with that moral issue. I was in Koh Samui over Christmas and was watching Astro's feed of CNN, Star Sports and Star World. I know it was Astro's feed becuase it had astro comercials in the breaks and even did the services not available when it rained. This means this hotel was doing exactly what you have suggested.

Cable service is just limited to certain place... not like astro that was using a satellie transmission, the coverage was so wide.... and even Brunei, some part of Indonesia and philippines also can get astro service... and FYI, if i;m not mistaken, we can subscribe astro in Malaysia, then bring the set to Singapore...

From what I understand Starhub is using FIOS cable. Good luck trying to get it working in KL. I assume the loop is closed to Singapore only. If it uses IP (i.e. SingTel Mio TV), got better chance, assuming the server doesn't do IP locking. Otoh, you need at least 4Mbps to do HDTV over IP. Since Singapore has more ADSL bandwidth overall (their ADSL 2+ can reach 24Mbps, compare to TMNut Steamyx which caps at 4Mbps with the same technology!), it can be assumed that their signal is primed for higher speed than 4Mbps. So even if it works expect picture to be unwatchable (i.e. constant buffering).
It's a shame. If Starhub come over to Malaysia, open a branch for TV and compete with Astro (or even just offer channels that they carry in Singapore that Astro doesn't have), I'd be very happy to switch or sign up with them to use as secondary provider. Because they offer the channels I want that Astro stupidly won't carry or dropped from their lineup.

Conflict of interest friend no way Starhub or Mio can or wl come to Msia .In Malaysia Astro wl rule no doubts about it. Astro has the power to make other service providers its slaves just look at Astro's packs with Singtel and Starhub u wl discover the difference.

Because they abuse their powers to make other ISPs their slaves and put their standard so low IPTV cannot take off. See DeTV and FineTV? Both use IPTV tech. Both are promising. And both died because Malaysia's broadband too slow for media applications. This post has been edited by RAMChYLD: Jan 12 2010, 08:40 PM

Without govt backing and monopoly all 3 wld have wound up by now ! Problem: TM is still monopoly. 80%+ of phone line still theirs. This is made worse by the fact that changing providers here is a PITA. And there's no MNP for fixed lines. Point is, we don't want any of them to monopoly. We want choices. Like US. I receive hd 5, digital 5, digital CNA, digital 8. Equipment needed: a good outdoor or powered indoor TV antenna, and dvb-t tuner. You can use any dvb-t tuner set-top box, or computer usb tv tuner with dvb-t. For my setup, I use DVICO TVIX HD-M5100SH (you can also use new model M7000A) with DVB-T tuner T531. Ensure signal strength (as shown on tvix info) is more than 70% and you will have no problems. best regards.
