Accidentally found this today, don't know is official or not... blush.gif
That Liger Zero looks like it's from the Zoids Fuzors diorama set.
On the box - does it show TOMY 2005? If yes, then I'll say it is official. Congratulations on getting it after all these years.
How big is this Art Statue compared to, say, a Cola can?

I think the Zoids Fuzors diorama were limited to only the following:
1. Liger Zero
2. Liger Zero Phoenix
3. Buster Fury
4. PKB Gojulas Giga

Anyone have all four or more? Can the diorama base connect together?

@Khai62: Thanks for the MSS "innards" shot.
Looking at the contents, I think the box size could really have been scaled down 1/4 more.
I guess Tomytec has to justify the RM130+ price tag for the MSS somehow.

@Cole Turner:
RM500++ for a model kit - some people can, I can't. Not yet, anyway.
What would be really sad is if Kotobukiya releases Gojulas' CPs as extra parts only and not as a new kit such as Gojulas the Ogre.

@wallacecheong: Not sure if it is possible to buy Alclad from Singapore hobby shops. Poslaju may have problem with Aerosols but liquid lacquer? Do let us know if you ask at the post office regarding its import.

Just for fun, here's a post from a long while back. Jonwayne from ZP did a lot of Alclad work on his Zoids.

BT Liger? Not sure about quality comparison with Kotobukiya's.
You can try asking at the non-official model kit topic

Hi, I'm still a newbie in collecting zoids.
May I know what is the difference between kotobukiya's zoids and takara tomy's zoid?
And what is the difference between HMMs or D-style for kotobukiya?

Thanks in advance.

HMM : highly detail, like master grade Gundam
Takara: More like toy, some can use battery operator to walk.
D-style : Big head, small body, like SD gundam, Cute.

HMM & d-style got third part brand, since Koto product r very expensive.

Thanks for clearing up things for me.

Just one more question:
Takara tomy also having both HMMs and D-style too?

If yes, then what is the main difference between takara tomy brand and koto brand for both HMMs and D-style?
Sorry if I sound dumb, just want to make things clear. smile.gif

thanks

Hi, stone_keat.
Welcome to ZOIDS!

Okay, now for the history lesson. *ahem*

TAKARATOMY is the main license holder and Zoids toy manufacturer from Japan (a merger of TAKARA and TOMY, which happened around 2005).
Their current Zoids line is branded as "Zoids Original" - a return to the spring- or battery-operated 1/72-scale Zoids toys that TOMY was producing since 1983.
http://takaratomymall.jp/special/zoids/lineup.html
user posted image

Tomytec is another manufacturer specialising in 1/144-scale Zoids model kits, which are branded as "MSS" or "Modelers Spirit Series".
These model kits are almost like smaller versions of the HMM Zoids.
http://www.tomytec.co.jp/mss/zoids/index.html
user posted image

Kotobukiya is a model kit manufacturer that produces two ZOIDS line - HMM (Highend Master Models) and D-style.
HMM is marketed as being 1/72-scale, very detailed model kits while D-style are the "cute", "no-scale" versions.
As far as I understand, Kotobukiya pays for the license to use the ZOIDS name and design inspiration from TakaraTomy.
http://main.kotobukiya.co.jp/pk_zoids_t/

These are the 3 official Zoids manufacturers currently: TAKARATOMY, KOTOBUKIYA, TOMYTEC.

user posted image

So, in summary for the official products:
> Small, 1/144-scale, poseable Zoids kits are in Tomytec's MSS series.
> Small, no-scale, poseable Zoids kits are in Kotobukiya's D-style series.
> 1/72-scale, poseable Zoids kits are in Kotobukiya's HMM series.
> 1/72-scale, non-poseable, motorised Zoids toys are in TakaraTomy's "Zoids Original" series.

Note that I use "model kit" for Tomytec's MSS and Kotobukiya's HMMs and D-styles since these are non-motorised.
So far, only ZOIDS ORIGINAL has the mechanical toy gimmicks.

For current "unofficial" Zoids product, as limfreelance mentioned, these are not licensed from TakaraTomy and I think is only limited to copies/redesigns of HMM and D-style Zoids.

For those HMM and D-style model kits where you see "TakaraTomy" on the box, those should still be manufactured by Kotobukiya's factories. It's just a promotional branding for ZOIDS between the companies.

To me, it does not matter whether you get a Zoids model kit or Zoids toy.
You buy or build one - please share your pictures and stories here! icon_rolleyes.gif

Now - can any Japanese readers/speakers tell me what this is?

you forgot about Revoltech and Yamato Zoids! tongue.gif

GREE is some company that produces mobile phone games and those "character cards"(I'm not sure if it's only digital or have physical cards) can be purchased for in-game upgrades. And not cheap! Each "character card" can go for about 2000-5000 yen for their Digimon game!(that's how I know about this)

@stone_keat

So far these series(Revoltech and Yamato) are not really "moving" as in no new stuff are being produced.

Revoltech is similar to a ready-to-play figure whereby you just take it out of the box and just pose/play. Almost no assembly required.

Yamato realeased a diecast Shield Liger sometime back.

I second the "no-show" of new Zoids items from Revoltech or Yamato.
Was the Revoltech Zoids fragile, anyone?

Actually, I think there was news that Yamato went out of business or change management or something like that so officially only 3 producers for Zoids now: TakaraTomy, Kotobukiya and Tomytec. Can't go wrong with those names.

For BT and other brands - yes, I think they came up with redesigns/recolours of existing Kotobukiya Zoids.

I don't have any of the big kits, only the D-style copies and they're okay for play.

@shinkurosuji:
That LYN Topic I highlighted actually discusses about the quality of non-official Zoids kits so you can read what they say about BT, Momoko, etc.
Unless it is official that BT, etc. are recognised by Kotobukiya? I did not see the new designs on the HMM website.

Either way, for me, the model kits are not for play so if the modeler really good with paint, glue, etc. then the kit should look good too.

I mainly stick to TakaraTomy or Tomy Zoids because I like to see the mechanical bits working together.

Ya, a few 3rd party redesigns/mash-up of HMM Zoids around.
Wonder if MSS will get the same treatment too?

So far, I know the company-specific designs are:
1. HMM Shield Liger with different canopy.
2. Mix of HMM Liger Zero Schneider + Jager. This one is just Schneider mould but in Jager colour, correct?

Any other "special" 3rd party Zoids model kits?

Great that you have the HMM Kong! How are the joints on yours? Are the fingers falling off?

From the review and photoshoot on ZP, it may be that HMM SS Kong may have better joints so it does sound like a good buy.
