Pros for new layout
- Viewing distance shorter (better)
- Living house looks much spacious

Cons for new layout
- Additional money to Drill hole n mount speaker plus wiring
-Will there be glare?

Q1. Is it worth to change the setup?
Q2. How much does it cost to gril hole n mount speaker plus wiring
Q3. Comment on the new layout?

i think the 2nd setup looks more decent and better,

although i think you should put the Rear Speakers further apart(new setup),cause at the moment they are too close to each other.

Added on January 11, 2010, 9:31 pmQ1: Its up to you if you want to upgrade, your current setup,if u feel its to much of a hassle to do it,then its best to don't do it.

Q2.All you need To do the holes is a drill or some nails and a hammer, to conceal the wires on my Room theater system i used Tape that was the Same Color as the Wall and i tied all the wires up with Plastic Ties.

Q3. The new layout looks better and i think would have better sound quality too, although as i have mentioned on the top Post, u should move the rear speakers further away from each other.

Hi,

I also agree that the new position is better than your current one.

It would make your living room look more spacious. And probably allow you more options to position the front speakers and sub. Also more people can sit on the bigger couch and face the TV directly.

The only drawback is not enough gap between surround speakers and the back of your couch. Previously the surrounds were a few feet behind your couch.

Cost of the wiring will depend on what wires you buy, since they go by per meter. I suppose you will run them on the wall surface and covered by white casing?

Thanks for all coments.

Currently i run wire on wall, not covered with anything.

Another concern i just think of, as I sit on the 3 seater couch, people passby my house is able to see me. Due to the door direct to the couch. Lack of privacy.

Coz currenlty im sitting at the 2 seater couch when watching TV.

Rear speakers are too close to couch. Preferably behind.. at least few feet back and at ear level. With new setup, the rear sound will come from the "sky" on top of your head, so you don't get "surround" sound.

with no gap between couch and wall the surround should be on a stand at the left and right side of the couch and not on the wall above.

Yes. i agree man, you will need to standmount your rear speakers, but remember that they must not be pointed toward your ears direction.
And couch should be placed apart from rear wall to avoid bass colouration

You have a length of 19ft which is pretty good. If i am you, I would seal up one of the doors and have the HT lengthwise. You can then sit furthur away from the back wall where you have your rear speakers.

Don't think he can sealed any doors. One is the main door, the other is the door way into the rest of the house. So both have to be accessible.

Hi Guys,

If i take the new layout design.
The TV and couch distance is only 6 feet.
Will it be too near for my eye? Btw my screen is 42 inch

I think this plan is probably better for you.

Sit at the wall facing the smaller wall, where u can place the front speakers better. Surround can be placed far away from your sofa, about 9 ft above the floor, and facing towards the centre. that way I think u have better room to play with your equipment.

Unfortunately, this is an issue. If he could do something the 19ft and sitting around 12ft shd be pretty good.

Appreciate your new design, but it will be hardly do-able as my parents dont like the idea of door facing TV.
My only concern now is the viewing distance of 6 feet from couch.

Are you sure it is only 6 feet? If you have your TV against the wall and you sit back in the couch, I think it would be at least 9 feet.

I think it can be pretty tough to solve your problem. I was even thinking of putting the tv against the right sided wall, exact opposite to your original design. But then your mother will hate the tV facing the door thing.

Not much solution I think.

Guys, i have ask Desa Home Theater to quote me the price for mounting.

Below are the scope
-unpatch existing cable
-patch cable
-unmount 2 speaker
-drill 1 hole
-mount 2 speaker
-re-calibrate sound setting

Guess what, the price is RM250. Anywhere i can get cheaper than this?
