Not weird, really. It is marketing strategy. Consolidate all your effort to a single model, so can lower production cost. Reduce inventories (stocks). Maybe margin for the 47" is best or market trend indicates consumer preferring to go for larger screen sizes in the near future.

It does not make sense for Toshiba to discontinued their most "well received" product line at this crucial time. XL line just launched, but must compete in the LED category. If they kill the ZV series completely, what product do they have to compete in the LCD category. Not all consumers are LED converts and willing to pay the extra RM.

The battle for the end of the year (bonus) consumer ringgit is just around the corner. You can expect more price slashing by all major manufacturers in the coming few months. The 47" to 50" market segment seems to be getting hot. Panny also lowering price for large plasma model. Let the battle begin! May the consumers finally be the victors!

If you want LCD, Toshiba ZV600E Series is one of the best and also one with the largest fan club here. Problem for you is that 42" is now obsolete (except for some display sets), there isn't any 32", only 47" available.

If you don't mind plasma, go for Panasonic TH-P42X28 plasma. It is VFM with good PQ. If you want to know more, go to the Panny's forum before you anger more Toshiba kakis.
