I've seen samsung LEDLCD series 7&8....from my eyes...LEDLCD TV are what LCD TV are suppose to be....err..but not for the price of course.

I feel myself very attracted to LEDLCD TV nowadays...dunno why...maybe too much of watching plasma and wash out colors of LCD TV

I can't really say for sure since I'm not looking to buy. But the big electronic companies are pushing big before CNY to get sales up and to get rid of old stock. If you're price sensitive, buy the cheapest and best for your price range. If you're not, then the CNY push won't matter. But don't let the push rush you into buying something you'll regret.

@Dickong - how to contact kelvin that you mention?

I also planning to buy 42" Full HD LCD with 100Mhz

Sharp A77 - meet this requirement, the only thing without USB and SD slot ( correct me if i'm wrong ). But if you got everything in HDMI, u don't need USB and SD.( Salesman told me ). USB only for JPG or MP3, while SD slot for viewing JPG, i'm not sure if they can play video in the SD card/USB or not. But it will not play HD format for USB or SD.
The SD card slot is good if only you need fast playback JPG, and convenience. Everything just control using TV remote control.

So the Toshiba can do this job, not much different in price.

Toshiba 42ZV600 - i'm interested in this. Full HD, 200Mhz

LG - some of the LG LCD TV "outlook" very ugly. The design look special but actually very fast out-dated. Just my view.

Got my L42S10K for RM2499 with 3 years Panasonic standard warranty last week (register online) - to me Panasonic gives more natural picture - dont believe all those color management, whatever technology thingy - as long as the skin tone of the actors is what it should be and the picture is sharp then thats the best way to watch - I find the other brands depend on a lot of confusing terms to hide the fact that a picture should be as close to natural as it can be.

Sharp is never in my list because everytime when I look at it, I feel it has very dull PQ compared to other model, went to few shops also the same.

Toshiba has very good PQ but if you are very particular about the panel reflection just like those in Plasma TV, then this could be out of the list because it is using glare panel but the advantage of this is it could boast very good brightness and contrast level to make the PQ very nice and eye catching

LG's PQ not bad when looking at it in the shop but not sure about its reliability, maybe just my perception on the brand hmm.gif

You may want to compare the features offered in these 3 models

Thanks valtai30 for opening this thread.

I am in the same situation with you now. And i also m looking at this 3 models haha because its cheap and function is top.

For me, from the 3 models, maybe i'll go for SHARP because i m a fan of this brand. Well i also not sure which 1 looks better in terms of the outlook and also the images.

Tell me which 1 u bought, i might buy the same 1.

Then, it'll be great if can get 0% installment by creditcard with 0% surcharge.

Update here ya?

Just survey for the price last week, price is RM3500 cheapest paying cash or RM3700 12/months installment. Or even 24 months, but RM3900++....

The PQ is good both in a dark and in bright room environment as Toshiba uses full glare panel to boasts good contrast level in bright room. Of course panel reflection is unavoidable with full glare type and I find it I'm quite ok with it because I'm a bit concern before I buy this tv nod.gif

This is the same model for US with slightly higher spec compared to ours. For me the black level is good on this model but not as great like Pioneer Kuro, personally I'm happy with it unlike my previous LCD where the black is really greyish. You can read the Toshiba thread in AVS Forum below to see how they commented the CNET review compared to what they have seen the black level in this set themselves

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread....1137494&page=26

Owners' feedback will be more relevant to the normal users like us as they commented based on their own experience with the tv wink.gif

Yes, sometimes, the owners' feedback is more relevant because the review sites can be very fussy, since they have played with plenty of high-end and expensive stuffs. As for me, a 10-20% improvement just can't justify a 50-100% price premium, in the case of LED-LCDs. It's just that I have to be sure that certain well-known LCD annoyances such as very poor blackness and very poor handling of motion blur is not existent in the TV that I am going to buy.

i also go for Toshiba 42ZV600E.
Will buy it sure before Chinese New Year.
Price drop a bit, RM3500 cash or RM36++ 12 /month installment , RM37++ for 24month installment.
Still consider 1 year or 2 years....

yes, almost same price, i think Sharp a bit cheaper. The only thing is Sharp don't have is no USB port. i think is 42" also, not 40".
Only got 3 HDMI.

USB vs No USB
200Mhz vs 100/120Mhz
4 HDMI vs 3 HDMI
SD slot vs ??

Just asking because my office just lost 6 monitor & 2 PC few days ago.
Any place can happen. So I don't want to put expensive thing in my house. So TV will be most expensive beside of cash, emas if they found. Need to add security system, but if cover by Toshiba, better than nothing.

does anyone using 40/42 incher LCD TV mainly for PC ? FPS Gaming specificly.

Can VGA card operate @1920x1080 with 100-240Hz refresh rate, I remember running 1152x864@100Hz on a CRT back then, but dunno on an LCD since most monitors have 60Hz. (using a GeForce GTX285 2Gb).

What LCD TV in 40/42" size have the following :
- Full HD
- 100Hz+ refresh rate
- 2 to 5 ms fast response time
- 10 bit panel

just a passing thought, I'm wondering why LCD monitor still exist while LCD TV's with much more niceties are getting cheaper nowadays and much BIGGER.

and btw what ms for an LCD display that's tolerable for the lag in fps gaming, which require fast response. I read some sensitive gamers would say just stick to CRT which has zero ms lag lol, but CRT is no more.
I'm using a 6ms response time monitor as of now (dell wfp-hc 2407), the lag is not noticable but you know it's there especially after trying to play the same game on a CRT monitor. Hope the next LCD TV I pick will have faster response in that matter.

tks in advance for any infos.

The LCD itself can adapt to 60Hz matching the refresh rate from your VGA card, so not an issue

Well I guess not all people will connect their PC to LCD TV so the market for LCD monitors is still relevant

You will found some LCD TVs do offer the Game Mode to specifically to address the lag like the Toshiba ZV series I'm currently using do a very good job in eliminating the input lag with its Game Mode option as the TV will bypass the unnecessary complicated image processings in order to output the game image directly from the player thus reducing the delay. I tested and found the controlling of the game are now more accurate and easier to maneuver thumbup.gif

oh, I thought game mode in LCDs were only to show better colors suitable for gaming instead of a normal mode, or 'desktop mode' like on a PC display, just for example.

about refresh rate, can't we get 100Hz if using LCD TVs for PC display ? Like on CRT monitors, they have refresh rate selection and lower res usually has higher refresh rate, but we can use any refresh rate we like
I thought LCD TVs work the same way, haven't tried it though since I don't have a 100hz capable LCD TV yet.

Game Mode is not meant for better color display but to reduce the input lag and complete image display without any loss pixels which are the issues well known in LCD TVs

For the refresh rate, the limitation is on your VGA card and not the LCD TV. Whatever refresh rate input by your PC, the LCD will match it and output accordingly, otherwise you may have flickering or picture stuttering issue on your LCD TV display. There is no such selection of refresh rate in LCD TV settings If I'm not mistaken because signal reception has been automated to accomodate the input signal.

@valtai30 : how does your toshiba tv perform on displaying SD content such as Nintendo Wii ? I know jaggies appearance can't be eliminated 100% especially when dealing with SD content, but is it acceptable ? and about the 100Hz refresh rate, do you able to display PC content in 100Hz refresh rate, and is it recognized in windows OS ?

@anyone : between LG 42LH70YR and Samsung 40B650 , which one will you ppl pick ?
it's very hard to decide, while 40B650 has better upscaling for SD content (according to a review site), but it has higher response time (4ms cmiiw) than 42LH70YR which has 2.4ms with IPS panel that's well-known for its quality (i read a lot of positive comments about IPS panel on some forums, and Apple 20" monitor which I happened to have really looks great with S-IPS panel, dunno if they're the same panels i'm talking about though, but it has the same IPS word on it, lol). Size wise, 42LH70YR is definitely bigger and the price is cheaper. Both LCD TVs also have feature for playing divx/mkv movies with subtitle via usb.

what I expect as upgrades from my current Dell 2407-wfp-hc monitor are :
- bigger size than 24", both qualified
- higher refresh rate than 60hz, both having 100hz
- lower response time, LG 2.4ms, Samsung 4ms, both qualified.
- can play SD content well, for TV broadcast and Nintendo Wii console, this one I'm not sure, but Samsung 40B650 has very positive review for its upscaling capability
- no noticeable lags especially for playing PC games, FPS mostly. This one not sure oso, but both has lower response time than 6ms my current LCD monitor has.

or if anyone owns or has the same interest on any of the LCD TV I mentioned above please help with review or personal opinion notworthy.gif

tks.

* regarding Refresh Rates, I wonder why 100/120Hz or even 200/240Hz is very important now and kinda feel like being put on a pedestal as a selling point, but for BD/movies it's advised to set it off unless watching sports channel, which I think not everyone like it (sorry, no offense for sports channel lover, hehe). What I currently understand about refresh rates is the less the number it is at higher resolution, flickering will occur, at least that's what I experienced back then when CRT is all around. But never notice any flicker for an LCD even at 1920x1200 res @60hz rclxub.gif , so, what gives ? hmm.gif

Just get Toshiba 42ZV600E, superb picture quality and tried it with Astro byond, unbeatable picture. Actually I compared one by one in my friend electrical shop near USJ, first he recommended me the Toshiba, but in my heart, I like the Sony Bravia, after comparison, the Toshiba is just awesome with such price, even Sony Bravia with higher price also lost in term of picture quality, if you guys still unable to decide, just choose this LCD, you won't regret.

Hi guys, I'm torn between 42ZV600E and 42RV600E, don't know which one to decide!

For those of you who had a chance to compare them side by side, is there a significant difference in picture quality? The price of ZV is about 25% premium compared to RV, is it worth it?

I'm going to connect a HTPC to the TV and it will have mixed usage: watching 480/720/1080p contents from PC, surf net, watch normal TV channel (not astro... yet), and play Wii. Genarally I watch very little sports programme.

From my research so far I came out with these comparison:

14-bit vs 10-bit: Isn't 10-bit good enough? Can see any improvement by going up to 14-bit? By bare eyes of course shocking.gif

Resolution+: I know this one sure got improvement, but without this feature is SD picture really bad? Can I live without it?

Clearscan 200: This is only important while watching football right? Other content should be little to no difference? Again can I live without it?

Regza Woofer: I know I can live without this because I have external sound system when I need the bass nod.gif

Full glare panel vs matte panel: Dunno if it's a good thing. Increases contrast and black level, but at certain angle it becomes a dark mirror doh.gif while matte panel have no such problem... I guess

Both models actually have the same contrast ratio spec (50000:1) but what I don't know is the actual contrast seen by bare eyes will be largely improved by the glossy vs matte panel or not hmm.gif

Swivel stand vs fixed stand: Doesn't matter for me as I'll be mounting it on a wall anyway rclxm9.gif

Other thing I noticed is power consumption of ZV is higher at 195W compared to RV at 145W (a lot man) maybe due to the 14-bit 200Hz processing?

Here at Penang, all the shops are displaying RV only, I can't find a single shop displaying ZV, all need to special order rclxub.gif so I can't make direct comparison myself. Anybody actually seen these two models side by side before? Would be nice if can comment here notworthy.gif

Thanks!

I owned the ZV series and have seen the RV series in store, the PQ is nicer in ZV series to my observation

14 bit vs 10 bit : There is definitely a difference in terms of much higher color gradation which produce smoother picture

Resolution+ : If you seen the SD picture without this feature and happy with it then you are good with it. This features will help to enhance the SD PQ

Clearscan 200 : Not really, there is also a difference with other content like action packed movies and there is the option to switch it off in user menu

Regza Woofer : You have your answer clearly stated

Full Glare Panel vs matte panel : As your mentioned both have 50000:1 contrast ratio, the full glare panel does make the difference in terms of better constrast and brightness level by viewing it with your bare eyes.

I was also worry about the reflection from the full glare panel at first and found out it is not that bothering at all when watching it at home under very bright environment (with windows and sliding door in my living area) and it could still produce a very good contrast level for nice PQ.

Power consumption : With higher spec offered, the power consumption will be higher but being the fact that all are under 200W, you won't really see much different in your monthly electricity bill

Why settle for medium range model if you have the budget to go for their latest flagship ZV series wink.gif

darenlks,

Since u have this set, can you check if under colour temperature, there is a manual setting. In the manual, it seems there is only warm, cool and something else. Is there a manual setting that allows you to access individual RGB (bias, gain, cut, drive...etc)? I ask this becoz apparently it has a full 3D CMS (each colour, red, green, blue, cyan, magenta and yellow have hue, saturation and brightness) but it does not make sense that they did not include the controls to correct white balance. Thanks

Hi, been looking to buy an LCD/LED tv and found this thread.

What i had in mind (aiming to buy actually) is Sharp Aqous. I think it is LED.
Read a few review says LED and LCD doesnt have much different PQ over each other, just power comsumption.

Seems like everyone is recommending toshiba. anyone have tried the Aqous?
How is it fared to the toshiba?

Btw, budget is around 4-5k.

Thanks in advance.

I have a ZV set and my color temperature setting is from 1 - 10 scaler and not warm, cool and something else. It has the maual settings for RGB colors Red, Blue & Green for gain and offset adjustment beside the 3D CMS where it allow you to adjust the hue and saturation of the 6 base colors. If I set my color temperature closer to 10 (cool), it will become brighter overall and white color will be whiter compared to lower scale which is a bit yellowish and dimmer in white. Adjusting the Contrast level will also adjust the white balance of the display as well.

I've not seen any adjustment specially for white balance adjustment in my user menu. Is there any other LCD set has such settings as my previous set also didn't have such setting.

The RGB gain and offset is the white balance/greyscale adjustments. Kudos to Toshiba for providing all the controls for calibration. Hopefully, when I calibrate a set for someone I can see how well they react. There are not many consumer sets that have both the greyscale and 3D CMS. Hopefully, they function well.

BTW cool whites are not accurate as per D65 standards. The correct D65 white will be slightly yellowish to ur eyes if u r used to whites that are bluish.

Contrast setting is an adjustment of luminance of the whites.

Tx for the clarification and you are right, I'm used to the bluish white as I like brighter display. Learnt something today from a real sifu here on the correct white balance rclxms.gif .

Once calibrated to D65, u can get brighter whites. That's one of the advantages of calibration.

Eh dun poison me la bro, I'm trying to convince myself to buy based on need not based on how much money I can afford to spend! sweat.gif

I have talked to more people about the 200Hz thing. Seems it really only matter most during live TV broadcast like football and other sports channel, which are captured in 50/60Hz. As for movies, even action films, the capture source is 24Hz and the best way to view it is in 24Hz itself. I have even seen recommendations to turn off those 100/120/200/240 enhancement while watching 24p film to avoid the unwanted "soap opera" effect.

Of course, ZV has the option to enable or disable Clearscan 200 as you wish, whereas RV doesn't have the option at all. But I think I can live without it since I seldom watch live sports channel.

I think I'm also not so worried about the 10-bit color processing since I did not find any banding issues with the display set at the shop.

As for Resolution+, I think it will become less important once everything starts moving to HD already.

So now, the only dealbreaker left is the glare panel vs matte panel. I haven't seen an actual ZV set before so I dunno, but the SA say I can refer to Samsung Series-6 and above to get an idea of glare panel. To me, it's true it looks nicer even when the TV is switched off. But the 25% price premium is still giving myself a lot of thinking to do for now rclxub.gif

If someone wants to sponsor me the 25% for sure I will grab ZV la drool.gif

I wish I have such knowledge in base colors management to gain the most advantages out of it drool.gif. Now could only adjust them base on my bare eyes until I'm satisfied with the end result blush.gif

Your SA is correct, the glare panel looks similar to those glare type of Samsung 6 series and above. Why don't you go to other shops to check it out yourself as I believe one of these shops should have it as display unit kua

No body could poison you lah if you already know exactly what you want tongue.gif . Since you don't fancy all these features in the ZV series then the RV should be good enough for you as 25% price premium may not sound justifiable just for the glare panel. wink.gif

Try to ask your family members to share share lah since everyone will be watching the same tv brows.gif

Got my 42RV600E yesterday and spent whole night setting it up and enjoying it. Love it very much! laugh.gif

Many people told me that analog TV reception using aerial is very poor quality for LCD TV compared to CRT, but this set has no such problem! I dun have astro yet, so I got TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9 all tuned in via analog aerial. All are very clear, no noise at all, basically comparable to astro output! rclxm9.gif

Upscaling from SD content is great for this set as well despite the lack of Resolution+ like the ZV series. The best part is the "Super Live" feature, making all my 4:3 content appear full screen without looking "fat"! Totally impressed by the technology! notworthy.gif

Wish I could post some photos but LYN is having some upload issue now sweat.gif later lah...

Glad to hear that, enjoy your TV.
Actually, if you can receive TV signal clearly using normal TV antenna, it's better than Astro SD channel on LCD TV. (from my observation)
So, this is time to get Astro Byond... brows.gif

Are you from Mars ? tongue.gif

Most of the tvs now could produce natural color with billion or even trillion of colors they could display, it's just up to the owner to tweak the base color to the right level for the desired output

how is the motion flow? 100 hz capable?
*
This set dun have 100Hz, only the ZV series have... drool.gif

But I think it is still acceptable without motion flow, there is no ghosting, gaming response is excellent, and fast motion looks smooth enough (although not SUPER smooth like those 100Hz capable sets). For my usage model, I think it is more than I could ask for already thumbup.gif

I also need some reccomendation...plannig to change to 42" Full HD in the future replacing my current 32" sammy...

so I'm mainly use it for gaming and PC...only this two...who ever have a suggestion, can recommend it to me...

targeting around RM3000...
*
If you are using mainly for gaming and PC, there is no need for those 100Hz capable models, becoz the TV can only support maximum 60Hz from any input source now, the 100Hz effect is generated by interpolating frames so it's not like you can actually send more than 60fps from the PC to the TV. If you want true >100Hz from your PC to the TV, you have to wait for 3D capable TVs to arrive first, those will have native support for >100Hz input source drool.gif

What you need to look for is a TV that has a "PC mode" which tunes the color and sharpness of the picture to look exactly like a normal LCD monitor so that small text look sharp and every pixels is clearly distinguishable. Coz if you set to movie or cinema modes etc, the color will be tuned to look more like TV with soft natural tones and all but small text would be a pain to read.

I think the TV I just bought is spot-on for your budget as well. It has the "PC mode" I described above and it very responsive, perfect for both console and PC gaming! laugh.gif

I'm planning to buy HD player also. Instead of bluray ( now still expensive ) , which HD player better huh? My list is Eaget or AC Ryan.
I'm trying to watching RMVB file thru my laptop, using HDMI, the problem is got picture, but no sound.
So i have to use VGA & speaker cable. So the PQ not so good.

sacrifice some money and build urself a HTPC.... with BD Player as well..... then u can watch either Blueray, HD contents, RMVB, avi, blah blah..... all in one!! but have to spend some $$$ lor.....using laptop output to LCD won't meet ur satisfaction de... maybe u can start with a low cost htpc, less than RM1K or maybe few hundreds for used parts and safe the earth as well (recycle)!!! smile.gif

I see sales tactic here, they jack up the ZV price so that they could slowly negotiate until you get hooked up to a good discount they could offer you is one of the possibility. Another possibility is that by having LED tv price so close to a LCD tv price makes you believe that it is a crazy bargain for the LED tv so that they could push up their specific brand of LED tv sales (better commission given by the manufacturer to push their product sales ?)

The current market price for 42ZV600E should be about RM3600, given a choice, one is 2" extra and RM500 cheaper, will you still consider the LED tv ?

Just my 0.0002 cents smile.gif

not sure i can get any answers here, currently getting another lcd tv for home. I have in mind is Samsung LA40C550 RM3099 or Sharp LC40L50M for RM2799. all price from senq btw. What do you guys think about those lcd?
currently using Panny LZ80 37" fhd lcd and also samsung Plasma 42" PS42c451 rm2199 is quite tempting.

Along Jalan Kepong, coming from Jln Ipoh / Jinjang (same direction heading to Jusco Kepong)..you'll notice a large KFC / Pizza Hut..opposite there is a RHB Bank, same row. Turn into RHB. I believe theres only one RHB in Kepong. If not mistaken, limited units only ohmy.gif

Btw, does it comes with S-Cable extention? Normal Astro decoder uses S-cable right? icon_question.gif

LG constrast ratio is known in the industry as highest...not because they have best LCD...because they have dodgiest method for measuring contrast ratio. It's pure BS. And DIVx is so last decade....MKV is the future!
Not to say LG is crap, but their tech specs are really BS.
