Astro decoder could only output audio via RCA (stereo) or digital coaxial cable (DD5.1) if I'm not mistaken, so the HDMI cable connected to your TV only carry the video.

ehhhh Actually normally the HDMI cable is from Astro to LCD/plasma directly & not to AVR.
By direct to LCD for sure there will be sound from your LCD TV but not from AVR. AVR, me just use the RCA cable from Astro to AVR only...I dun think by using HDMI to AVR will really improve much on the SQ..

On connection no.1 the audio is directed to your AVR while picture is redirected fr AVR to LCD hence no sound coming fr your LCD audio out. The audio is from the AVR not LCD hence in the same setup but connection fr AVR audio out to Sammy works

unless you got one of those high end AVR and not those HTIB you can connect your Astro via HDMI for sound and audio out to your AVR then to your LCD TV

Getting Started

|
I'm having a similar issue with my 42PFL7409. I have a HT systems connected to the TV but not everyone in the family knows how to use the HT system. As such, i wanted to hook up an active sub to the TV just to have a fuller sound, w/o the need to turn on the HT system each time. I connected an active sub via the RCA output from the TV. It works fine for normal TV broadcast channels but once i switched to a media player connected via HDMI1, audio continues to be played through the TV speakers but there's no signal from the TV's RCA audio out. A sub-out feature should have been included with this model. Anyone knows of a way around this? In addition, has anyone purchased a Philips Soundbar for this model? Does the EasyLink work, providing a all-in-1 remote control? This post has been edited by dinkydong: Jan 18 2010, 10:41 AM
