Don't complain ler... we've been using full adult prices even as a student. Are you a PR or citizen to get concession? I don't think it's that expensive to take public transport in Melbourne especially if you travel long distances.

Having said that, the trains are getting more and more messed up despite Metro taking over from Connex. Change logo only, same old bloody problems.

laugh.gif Bye bye Elizabeth St.
*
Didnt ya forget mate?
same goes how company collapsed.

Change Logo, swap working people. thats it. Let all the problem untangle itself. Thats Metro. big BS!
State govt wont want to do much of it..beside fake promises of new trains etc.

Besides, you wont want to be in Sydney situation. double ass for it. laugh.gif

You should had walk/stroll along clayton road. There is a Op-shop for such or maybe you want to try Mt Waverley. Just go around this suburbs. You will find bargain.
depends whats your budget & what you had you want to opt for.

Architecture will be in Launceston campus. Um, I'm not entirely sure about the course, prob have a look here: http://fcms.its.utas.edu.au/scieng/arch/cp...sp?lCpageID=282 It's a 3 years course, add on 2 years for masters. Again, I'm not sure of how the launceston campus is like cos i'm in Hobart. And sadly to say, I don't even know much of my main campus in Hobart cos i'm situated in ANOTHER campus within the city. So it's pretty spread out. But all i know is that UTAS is one of the rare unis that offer Naval architecture. Hmm, well, tasmania is a boring place but good for studying, kinda (well, quite) cold sometimes, and the tuition fee is cheap. =P but not food wise though, esp chinese food.

I'm limiting myself to 11k this year, including all the tables chairs beds and daily stuffs. Rental should be below 140$ pw  depending on the location, and I spend around 100$ for food pw. So yeah, with 12-14.5k you can live in luxury i have to say. No worries you'll be fine with <11k. Again, that depends on how you plan your finance. =)
*
Chinese food are like rare species in Tassie right?
Also in Perth. Kind of rare too. sweat.gif

QUOTE(CarotMilk @ Mar 27 2010, 04:22 PM)
Hey there, thanks for the link =) But i've already read that.
I heard that you can work part-time and study, have you done that? How's the environment in Tasmania?
Yeah, some of my friends who studied in Australia told me that Tasmania's tuition fee is cheap.
How about groceries? Cheap?
*
Work part time you can but you got to know to time manage.

QUOTE(StarGhazzer @ Mar 27 2010, 06:46 PM)
$140 per week is bloody cheap compared to Melb sweat.gif
$100 per month ($25/week) is the average cost for groceries but I'd say set a budget of $150 per month as you'll want to treat yourself with good stuff every now and then.

If you're going to buy a car then honestly $1000 per month is probably not enough, unless your parents are sponsoring your ride.
Assuming that you're in Hobart, groceries are generally slightly more expensive than Melbourne. Having said that, you can find good bargains if you shop in bulk (eg buy eggs in 30s, pastas in 5kg packs and split it among friends). Sometimes you'll be able to find really cheap fruits as well; we bought apples which costs 4cents each when we were over there for holidays.
*
Cheap is cheap some but choices are limited too.

So i guess 11k will be enough, but 11k for me is still a huge sum, did you apply for scholarship or did you get tuition fee waiver?
*
If sum is a problem, you should look into europe icon_rolleyes.gif

Woolies in Tassie are %$&^!!@mad.gif... most of the time you pay slightly more and you don't get as many offers/sales as those in the mainland.

No Frills Wholesale Cash & Carry
44 Gormanston Rd, Moonah TAS 7009

Google maps will show you the way.
I'm no saving guru ler... just don't like spending extra on things when there are so many offers going around, especially when the various supermarkets are having regular price wars. My weekly expenditure now is much more compared to student time due to extra spendings like fuel and eating out more often due to work(and chilling out after work), and of course paying higher rent and bills etc.

Previously as a student I was much more stingy... $30/week for groceries is more than enough. A huge bulk of your expenses will go towards rent, utilities and transport, but with good self control $1K per month is easily achievable.

Studying in Australia may not necessarily be cheaper than in Europe esp UK where Sterling is at an all time low. The costs of studying in big cities like Sydney or Melbourne (esp UniMelb whose fees are higher than most other Aussie Unis) are pretty heavy as well; however places like Tassie is still considerably affordable.

^ Capitalism at its best.

This is why I buy most of my staple food like bread, eggs, veges, jams, sugar/flour from Aldi. Much cheaper. Woolies and Coles are only good for bulk purchases during offers, you go there during non-offer period you'll curse at their prices.

I still prefer the experience of buying in open markets like Vic market but it's further away from where I'm at after moving house.
*
same here mate!
Aldi somehow are cheap, for most stuff but not all.
Capitalism = Choice

Vic market is good, but sometimes if you know the average price; you will notice its expensive of certain food staples. Also, it all about timing. laugh.gif

but then again, this doesn't apply to all Australia. If you are in Perth; price varies in term of location. But recent so call flatten the market had been working well. Pushing all Coles & woolies to be same price in all WA.

Prolly, sooner ACCC need to bring in more Supermarket & allow localisation of supermarkets like IGA which support local produce to come to front line.

Monopoly at its best in Aus = Woolies vs Coles laugh.gif

Wah, you guys make me feel real guilty about my weekly grocery spendings.

So far, I have bought weekly groceries twice and the first time, I spent about AUD40 then last week I spent about AUD70 >___<

I get all my stuff from coles and already I buy whichever items are specials.

But I still manage to keep my monthly expenses somewhere around or below AUD100 p/w.

Dunno, maybe I should start examining my spendings. ngeh. rclxub.gif

If none are on special, then you need it; you will loose out.
Come on, Business & finance & accounting & Marketing & economic students should know better than average joe! rolleyes.gif

By here you mean in Tassie or Malaysia?
After hearing that Euro is cheaper than Australia, I'm gonna re-considerate about the whole thing, but i definitely like Australia more, and many of my friends study/studied there.
*
Euro is cheaper due to its current so called debt running economy.
the only country that is sustainable with money is France & Germany; all other are on the tipping point.
Australia has nothing much compare to Europe. If you like plain bush, less tree. come here.
Of course alot peeps had studied here, for what reason.

Just ask them, that time currency they came was cheap; now maybe not.

Ah...this issue again..

first of all Member 0Celeste0 was given the advice about the difference of QLD & VIC.

Told her about the condition but well, its all up to her choice where she look for a plc to rent. But instead doing the way of actually check up a plc via inspection etc, she just hoping everything will be as easy as QLD...

Now regretted signing up with bad-ass Landlord ?
There`s many msian in Melb, but no idea why never bother to ask but stick up with people that do help at front but at back-stab you with dodgy deals..

Are you doing charity to Aus govt?

I`m not really sure about cargo worth the cost shipping back when you can get cheaper in Malaysia.

Maybe its the conditions attached to claiming the TRS?

http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp

I'm not entirely convinced that buying a TV in Australia is any cheaper than buying it in M'sia. Adding in shipping would probably cancel out any financial advantage. These things are generally standard prices, and don't vary too much across most countries. (That said, a strong AUD does help a bit).
*
these condition are pretty straight forward. All you need is receipt of purchased amount more than A300.
The LCD to be purchase range about A1000 to A1500, that`s more than required & with about A135 refund; you still gain few RM but minus your oversize cargo cost..that's all.

I understand that this is an English speaking forum and that, we are supposed to type in proper English in this thread as per the title. Sometimes I would feel reluctant to post anything in this thread because I know my English is going to be judged the minute it is posted and due to the lack of knowledge in some areas, I felt that I should have just shut up and watch other 'knowledgeable' people to answer the queries. But this would have defeated the purpose of a forum. We come here to share what we know, and sometimes what we know is incorrect. That's when people come in and correct us. We share our knowledge and improve ourselves. However, in my opinion, there are more proper ways of correcting people. I somehow feel for hihihehe as I read haya's reply. It felt as though he has been ridiculed for a mistake that he might not have realized. He could have accepted the fact that he did not put forward the query in a grammatically correct way if we would have corrected him in a better way. There wasn't a need for the 'rant' section.
I am not sure whether I have the stand to voice this out. I speak for people who might have quit posting in this thread because they are afraid of having to make mistakes and being ridiculed for that. We are all in a learning process. This reminds me of how I was afraid to ask questions when I was in Malaysia because some teachers would reply with something like 'are you stupid? Didn't you hear what I just said?'. Students just quit asking when they are given this kind of response and this has somehow hindered the learning process.
I am glad that I came out of this trauma after being exposed to the Australian way of teaching. The tutors and lecturers in the university are more than happy to take any question and even, encourage students to see them during consultation hours. This is just my point of view. No offense to haya or limeuu.
*
+1. Good one. rclxms.gif

i dont mind if u just reply "i dont understand your query, try again?"
but from the way i read and understand your post?sorry dude, that post not comfortable for me...

thats all...

p/s: my English really sucks compare with you guys but at least I still learning...and to be honest,I never type a proper English in Internet especially forum..can say as my "bad style"

2) Curtin Uni
3) Monash Uni

I am doing postgraduate in industrial design btw smile.gif

Well, Industry Design here pretty young, not that sophisticated as UK yet.
I suggest to you to rather go with Swinburne bcos of its connection with skilled based, then you wont just learn theory more of yourself or just design in theory.
