So I noticed that you don't have the Nexus One yet? Well, get on that!

As for the iPad, I do want one....but I figure I only have to wait a year for iPad 2.0. Hopefully, it'll have a camera by then.

For now, I'll just go buy more camera gear to distract myself. LOL!!

If I were to pick up iPad, I really would only consider the 3G version. But since the mini-sim isn't supported here yet, I'll take a pass. Even though there is the iPhone work around for mobile internet connection, but why would I want to drain the battery on my phone just so that I can have wifi on my iPad.

So yeah, next year. Next year will be a better year.

Functionality-wise, the iPad does fit into my lifestyle. I do a lot of websurfing, e-book reading on my iPhone as it is. Would be great to do it on a bigger screen. My kids watch movies on my iPhone when we do long distance traveling, I'm sure it'll be better for their eyes if they didn't have to watch it on that little screen. Games/Apps would be more fun for them, like Doodle Buddy or the Thomas the Tank Engine apps would be way cool bigger.

Marvel comics' app looks great. Would be nice to get back into comics again, without having to go into a store to buy it every other week. Or worry about my kids getting juice/milk/spit/snot all over them. The time for collecting comics is past. So yeah, I see how the iPad can fit great into my life, but there are just a few things making it possible for me to resist. For now......

What's ur point? iPad is Tablet while MacBook Pro is Laptop.

No point, just teasing. And plus the MBP just got announced, so technically it's an even shinier new toy. =)

And yes, I now the difference between the two. biggrin.gif

Just wondering how many of u out there having their ipad and mainly how GB did u get?
*
Just get as many as you can afford. LOL!!

My rule of thumb is always go for more. Your needs will only grow. And media file sizes only get bigger and bigger as people demand better quality PQ and/or SQ.

-----------------------

As for how long do you wait before you can an iPad, 2.0 is almost always the better choice. The jump from 2.0 to 3.0 usually isn't that great. The learning curve for product designers/developers after 1.0 hits the market is tremendous. A simply example would be the wifi issue on the iPad that was prevalent in the US. There's only so much testing that can be done in a lab. But once it hits the real world, that's when the real results come in.

So 2.0 will be a huge leap forward from 1.0, but after that... it'll just be minor upgrades and maybe 1 or 2 (if we're lucky) innovative features with the next gens, but most of the time...upgrades will just be a faster processor, more memory, etc, etc. The mundane stuff.

Sales tax in the US varies from state to state and even city to city within that state.

Los Angeles sales tax is around 9.75% I think. 8.875% in NYC. SF sales tax is 9.5%. Texas is at around 8.25%.

So it kinda varies how much you'll get taxed depending on where your item is purchased. Now if you buy something online and that business does not have a physical store in your state, then there is no tax. =)

Maxis is already rolling out Micro-Sim cards. That post of mine you quoted is before the 3G iPads arrive, and itsgeneral acceptance of any Simcards as long as it fits in the Micro-sim slot. I may jump onto a data-only plan with Maxis if I can secure a 3G iPad for myself in LA.
*
Well, if the carriers out here will offer a second "data only" micro-sim (like how someone mentioned that Maxis may do) as part of your phone/data 3G line, I'll definitely pick up a 3G iPad.

Let's hope local telco's can get their butt into gear.

The iPad isn't in itself the tool, it's simply a new medium for learning tools to be presented for children. The apps are the most important part of the equation.

My kid (2 yrs old) is on my iPhone whenever he gets the chance. He loves his Thomas & Friends apps, Doodle Buddy, several of the apps from Duck Duck Moose, Monkey Preschool Lunchbox, etc. He learns alphabets, colors, counting, memorization, etc from those games. It's wonderful. He can operate the iPhone all by himself now. From waking the phone from sleep, to scrolling through the pages to find his fav apps.

I plan to get the 64GB version because my kids loves movies and it'll be great for traveling, which is what I do now with my 3Gs. All their fav shows/movies are on there and can keep them occupied when they are done eating at meal times at a restaurant.

Can't wait to get mine!

Don't get us wrong. It's not like the iPhone/iPad has replaced all conventional toys and learning aids. It's just another learning tool is all. =)

My kids still read real books and play with all their real toys 80% of the time.
