Maxis call me and confirmed cannot use multsim 1 line for iPad 3G so not worth it to pay another RM 98 for 3GB limitation on iPAD 3G

So #fakap

Anyway is there anybody manage to cut normal sim and place it into iPad and confirmed it works? Especially with Maxis Sim Card :-)
*
Why you want to use the voice plan sim? It's designed to use with the data sim, which is the maxis bb instead of the mobile Internet.

In fact, it's a great time to sign up for the maxis bb now, their plans just got cheaper. My brother using the 3gb plan for some time and maxis give him offer automatically, 6gb plan for the price of the current promotional 3gb plan.

It doesn't make sense to exchange the sim with your phone to use with the iPad, remember the size is not the same. Cut the sim into smaller one then cannot use with your phone already.

i need to clarify few things regarding the multi sim thing.

i have a maxis postpaid, which is on unlimited rm99 package.
so i get another sim with same number for data/broadband purpose, i pay additional rm99 every month?

cant share the unlimited package on that one?

Edit: oops there's already people using the multisim solution for mifi already, guess i was wrong... tongue.gif

In my case I don't want to give spend more money than necessary. I already have a very robust Streamyx connection, I'm paying RM50 per month for my iPhone 3GS data connection and work is paying for an unlimited Blackberry/3G connection.

Sharing in my case would make a lot more sense, I can't/won't do jailbreak+MyWi.
*
since there're people reported that they can have 2nd sim work for data only, maybe you want to request for another sim and cut the hell out of that sim and fit into the ipad? hmm.gif

I jailbroken my iPad from day 1, no need to worry anything... brows.gif

I'm keeping my iPad wifi then - and buying a Huawei 5830 in which I'll plonk in a prepaid data sim. I think in the long run, that's more value (plus I can share the connection).
*
that's the good thing about mifi, you can share the 3G connection. like in my case, streamyx cabling in my area just went down and i cannot login with my streamyx account despite the line is stable. i use my joiku and still can online as usual.

it depends on what you need. if you can't live without internet where ever you go, buy the 3G version.

after using my ipad for a while, i find whenever i want to take out my ipad to online regardless wifi or 3G tethering:

1. either i got no time to online because usually busy eating at cafe or chatting with friend.
2. i got nothing important to surf.

unless i use for individual music lessons, which i find:

1. streaming youtube is wasting a lot of time (connect, search, and stream), better use the time to teach something else. having the youtube downloaded and ready to play is more convenient and time saving and more organized lesson. unless emergency, i can always use my nokia.
2. the class room i teach in the uni got no reception, not even GSM. so even if i have ipad 3G also no use...

the only situation you'll need the 3G is when:

1. waiting for somebody in the cafe or shopping center
2. long bus trip
3. the place you work where there's no wifi or internet

hmm, i was saving up for the next iphone, but recently more and more often i go, "hmm, it would be so cool do do this using ipad" when doing my daily tasks.... so i dunno, maybe get ipad and keep my cap ayam phone
*
what kind of example you need ipad to do your daily tasks?

after using ipad for a week, here's my finding:

1. browsing is really speedy and nice. however, you cannot open lots of webpages/tabs at the same time, as the cache will not hold even 1 page of intensive images. you browse through it, it'll clear the first half of the page while you scroll further down. even install some plugins for the safari, you still can't download some of the files like you can (for virtually any files) on windows/Mac. oh, no flash if you like to play facebook...

2. i'm no gamer, and i do find some of the games got bored after playing long time. they're fancy to look at though, make you "happy" because you have something cool in your hand, which will eventually fade away.

3. video and audio is SUPERB, especially video. watching 720HD on ipad is incredibly sharp and clear with vivid colours. audio is very low noise, crisp and clear (well ipod range has been really good on audio quality) given that you use a better headphone you can really enjoy it. i also output the ipad to a pair of better speakers and my students and colleagues are amazed by the output quality.

4. i'm a musicians, having a dictionary of lead sheets in my ipad and using them is really handy and convenient. browsing through 500+ pages of scanned music scores (in jpg format) has got NO lag. the size is also very nice, but for full piano scores not big enough but i don't need full piano scores. not to mention playing in the dark don't have any lighting problems. brows.gif

5. same as no.4, you can have scanned copies of mangas or books in either ibook or pdf formats where you can read them comfortably on ipad due to the screen size and display quality.

6. i use this for educational purpose, and the battery is basically infinity. one charge enough to last for few days of teaching (video tutorials/music backing tracks).

7. virtual keyboard in landscape mode works really well and feels like a 12inch screen laptop keyboard. if you know how to type the qwerty way, it works wonder. although it's still not physical keyboard, expect to take some time getting used to it.

remember, it's not a full fledged mobile internet solution which many of the people will probably use the device for. netbook or slim notebook is probably a better choice if you want more than just browsing basic webpages, checking mails etc. treat the ipad as giant itouch, what is limited on itouch (software wise) is basically the same on ipad.

i love my ipad because it suits me almost to the max - video tutorials, music backing tracks, music lead sheets are the 3 main thing that i need to use when teaching and it really shines on those. thumbup.gif

PS: i tried the Fiio E1 http://www.fiio.com.cn/en/showproduct.asp?id=316 and it works on ipad. high quality sound! biggrin.gif

Thank god for that then. Otherwise I'll be seriously regretting buying the wifi only version!  biggrin.gif

Phone tethering still works mah...I actually think tethering or mifi can have more flexibility although not as convenient. laugh.gif

I actually bought a Zara bag a while ago, size can probably can fit a MacBook 13inch, looks like the muzetto but more pariah version which is denim/hard fabric. But it fit some books that i use for teaching nicely, and the iPad still can fit in. biggrin.gif

But now my water bottle cannot go in liao...

hmm it seems like everyone is debating about the netbook/laptop versus ipad, and 3G-less versus 3G all over the net.

i wonder what do you use the ipad mainly for?

Personally, I use the iPad as follows:

WORK
I have a really old, shitty laptop at work. For meetings I just bring the iPad along, type my notes into Simplenote(free) and then I can email them directly to my colleagues. For other meetings with clients since I use Dropbox a lot it's not a problem for me to show them any kind of documents I need provided I have Internet access.

With Goodreader opening the documents from Dropbox is a breeze. I'm contemplating OfficeHD or the next iteration of Documents to Go to complete my work usage for the iPad.

PERSONAL
I surf websites much faster than having to boot my net book,I can entertain my son with books from the store, and play games that work awesome. I've all but forgotten my NDS, and with Arcreader (free) I can bring my digital comics around with me.

I love my iPad but I really need a screen protector...
*
cool... biggrin.gif

i use my ipad for showing videos to my music students (some fantastic musicians playing), as well as playing mp3 for backing/play along tracks.

synced 500+ pages of jazz leadsheets into my ipad and use it as a virtual score. so convenient as you can imagine how big that book is and it's now all inside my ipad. still a little too small for classical style scores but for lead sheets the size is just nice.

going to try some of those apps you mentioned especially the Arcreader. haven't been following some of the mangas lately and going to download a bunch and put them into my ipad.

meanwhile i got a bunch of animes that i bought or downloaded waiting to be synced...

when i bought my ipad the person applied the screen protector for me. i also bought the original ipad case that i find very useful. when i take out people thought i have a mini laptop or something. biggrin.gif

sad.gif  most of the time, iPad have no problem right? My hand a lil itchy already!

I believe the only problem that'll make you want to go back to the store is probably dead or stuck pixels...
