prior installing, you need to delete vendor.xml. To do so, open "My Computer" C:\Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > AppLoader and then delete the Vendor file

and i think battery slightly last longer - can anyone confirm this?

Downloading now.

Honestly from 4.6 to 4.7 already I see the difference.

5.0 should be good.

No rebooting problem here.

I did flashed this official .411 to my wife Bold. Everything work great.

I did a Wipe using BBSAK 1.7, then load the OS and do 3 battery pulls. Then start restoring all the data. Maybe U should try this method.

Thanks for helping mate.
I found out the problem.
If my cellular radio is ON, my phone will reboot. (and then keep on reboot and reboot)
If my cellular radio is OFF, my phone can boot up smoothly.

Wonder why Maxis will crash with OS 5

Its already near 5am but the os% just refused to install... I followed step over step that guided in crackberry forum, but the desktop manager does not show that it detects any os being loaded to it.

I tried few times with the os5 installer reminding that it already instlled the os (by giving repair or remove option only), but the os is nowehere available on my unit.

Hope anyone can help me as i am new ith BB. Thanks

after 2 days using the official os5, actually i already installed the leak version and used it for a month edi (no different from official), found out the os are stable and fast, battery consumption still the same for me. but the 3 icons bug in camera mode still there smile.gif that's mean Bell os5 is the same as leak version of os5, just this official one include with language pack.

Installed OS5.0 on my BB Bold 9000 last nite.

Yup, the differences that I noticed are as per weileong's post above.

A few things, that I'm trying to resolve:

1. At first, right after the installation completed, under Mobile Network Settings, BIS services on my BB was dropping off and on. THis morning, everything was OK. Guess last nite, there was some problems with Celcom BIS (probably).

2. Very scared, as it was my first OS upgrade for my BB. But reading the crackberry guide, etc on how-to do OS upgrade really helps.

3. A friend is also gonna upgrade his BB BOld 9000 to OS5.0, but not sure how to go about if his is a company-issued BB which probably has IT Policy/Security built-in.

Overall, satisfied with OS5.0. Still doing the "shakedown" on this OS.

Thanks for the link for the OS upgrade for Curve 8900. Wanted to know, both my wife and I have a BB. Mine the Curve 8900 while hers the Curve 8520.

I know the OS for hers is not out yet, but if let's say it's out. Would I follow the same procedure to upgrade the OS?

I've read that we need to delete the vendor.xml file. So do I need to delete it when doing mine, and again delete it when I'm upgrading hers?

u have to delete and reinstall viigo and some other apps, forgot which one
so rules of thumb, if u hv problem with any 3rd party apps, just delete it and reinstall the latest version.
btw i had to download BBM5.0, coz OS5.0 does not comes with it, in my case

Its already near 5am but the os% just refused to install... I followed step over step that guided in crackberry forum, but the desktop manager does not show that it detects any os being loaded to it.

I tried few times with the os5 installer reminding that it already instlled the os (by giving repair or remove option only), but the os is nowehere available on my unit.

Hope anyone can help me as i am new ith BB. Thanks

Downloaded for the Tour and flashed too.

But strangely in the upgrade option I have Chinese, but after flashing I don't see any Chinese option.

I'll try to flash it again.

Download OS 5.0 for my Bold and install blackberry apps world as per page 2 link, everything goes well.

My question is how to install 'Last.fm Personal Radio' app, couldn't find it from blackberry appworld search, but when i check north america blackberry app, the 'Last.fm Personal Radio' app is applicable for US and UK only. Please enlighten me the way to install this app.

Here's the link,

Have a question here - if i upgrade my bold to the v5 of the OS, will i get punked or screwed by Celcom with their BIS?

Still wary to upgrade not officially from celcom/maxis/digi la
*
Shouldn't be, I have been using OS5.0 for several months now without issue and since the 9700 is out which is on OS5.0, doesn't make sense for them not to support it. I don't think it alters the way the device communicates with the server significantly.

Even before this I have usually been on the bleeding edge on OSes using new builds not officially approved and not had any particular telco related problems.

just update to OS 5.0

feels snappier although i nearly lost all my BBM contacts if it weren't for the Remote Recovery via email.

Tried syncing through Desktop Manager via backup files but to no avail.

Oh well... i guess if u haven't register for the Remote Recovery . . no harm to do so.

Peas.

after much frustration and false alarms.. I managed to upgrade my 8900 from 4.6.1 os to 5.0.0.461! biggrin.gif

here's what I did but I will not recommend it if you're updating your OS for the first time or if you have never wiped and reinstall your OS on your own.

1 - install the 5.0.0 os
2 - backed up my files, using DM and BBSAK(3rd party apps).
3 - wiped my bb using BBSAK.
4 - deleted the previous vendor.xml in program files/common files/research in motion/apploader/
5 - connected bb bak into com right after a battery pull, ran apploader and installed 5.0
6 - used BBSAK n DM to restore using my backed up file in step 2.

followed the instructions here - http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/blackbe...res-videos.html

it worked for me biggrin.gif imo bb users are quite knowledgeable considering they know how to wipe their own device and fix it haha

edit: Im not on any BIS while I did this. Yet to get my BIS

Was checking the Maxis BlackBerry firmware site

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry....486BC85FEB3F0AB

and found that official OS5 firmware upgrade for Curve 8900 [BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.760 (All Languages)]. Looks like Bold 9000 also has one.

Upgraded my Curve 8900 and so far everything is running pretty smoothly. rclxms.gif

prior installing, you need to delete vendor.xml. To do so, open "My Computer" C:\Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > AppLoader and then delete the Vendor file

and i think battery slightly last longer - can anyone confirm this?
*
delete vendor.xml must be done before update or after the update process?

sorry newbie smile.gif

I had a Storm 9500 which I updated to OS5 a while back, but it gave me problem so Celcom gave me another unit, but with OS4.7. I've been trying to update it to OS5 for a while now, I have downloaded and installed the new Device Manager, then the new OS, deleted the vendor.xml file. somehow, I still can't get around to get the OS loaded on me unit.

Can someone help me please? I have forgotten how I installed it back then.

Thanks.

So RIM officially releases an Older os for these phones at the same time as it releases os 6?

what i meant is that for the older phones, RIM releases an older OS for them at the same time they release OS 6 for the newer phones?

This doesnt make sense. It's like releasing windows XP for some older pcs at the same time Vista is released. Does it make sense? It seems more RIM is trying to pacify their current customers.

Pity those Storm 2 owners.

i get what you mean. Can't do anything about it though.
In marketing lecture, there is a statement saying, its more costly to gain new customer than to sustain a loyal customer.

but its more glamorous to get new customers than to reward loyal ones i guess.
This is why RIM will ultimately lose out to android phones. Have you seen the hardware of those phones? insane. all ahead of their generation. why? to futureproof the device.

RIM is taking the same path as Apple.

even OS 5 is already a burden.

but you can still get enough space.
remove all the language + use Maxmem application to remove VAD, PTT internal files.
