Today,i went to lowyat to get my benQ-S42. When i arrival there ,i immediately go to Thunder Match Shop at Floor 4...
when i went in tat shop,i saw tat benq S57 is showing on there,but i wan get S42 first.Thus,i ask one staff and him said that is out of stock already .. Haiz, then i walk around inside the shop, i met another staff and ask again about S42 and him helped to checked. Wow, they still has a display S42 at Ground floor (display? yes,display laptop..but no choice ,that is last one them sell it with RM2199)

After i knew that news,i immediately went down to Ground floor there.Yes,i found it ...then i ask staff to get it .That Malay staff helped to prepare it ,but him unable open the laptop lock and said the laptop lock is "Rosak" ,it is unable open ..try choose other la. Shit, i`m disappointed about it. I went out walk walk and consider how about S57..

Finally,i decided go get S57, but i ask another Chinese staff helped me to solved the laptop because i wan buy it. OK! he said call someone to open it due to laptop lock is "ROSAK". Hence, i went to took my dinner and came back that shop at 7:15pm..Then they showed me that S42 ... What the hell ,that laptop lock still there ,they only cut and pull out the laptop lock cable ,they unable open it. Shit ,what i should do ? I dun buy it or buy it? after i consider a while ,i decided buy it ..but i try to get a great discount from them.

The Chinese staff offer me RM2169 without free gifts , holy shit , i get the RM2150 from that malay staff..OKOK...they offer me RM2150 ...haiz ,i also tired about it ,spend a whole day at there...ok la ,rm2150 la ..deal it.

RM2150 , benQ-S42 Processor C2D , Geforce 9600 GT 256RAM , 2GB RAM , 320 HD space...you all think it worth ?( plus one broken laptop lock embed it... the broken lock will consume my effort and time to solve it in future...damn )

What i think ? i disappointed their services ,i ask some question to thunder match staffs although i knew the answer already ... but they simple answer me ,for example...

1. It is last one ,so offer you RM2199 ...( what i know ? it is year end promotion ,no it is last one )
2. Where the BenQ service center at KL ?( i help you check later..but him ignored me ,shit)
3. Can you give me more discount ? ( cannot la , i sell you RM2150 now ,only earn you RM1 ,,that distributor price is RM2149...you think i will believe you? when i bought Acer 4920 in the past ,it is RM2.5K...but actually acer industry sell them RM1.6K )

Now ,i try to install WinXP on BenQ..haiz ,it DVD rom seem has a problem,,noisy...cant install now.I not sure is DVD rom or Disc problem...

I jz want suggest if you need to purchase a gaming laptop in budget 3k ,you can get S57 from Thunder Match ..It is price RM2999,it worth ..ATI 4650 , Cool processor 2.5Ghz,2gb RAM , 500gb HD space and Blur ray rom ,,wah.

and ..i ask that staff when you company will import new S42 laptop ? he said "next week .." ," har ? then how much it ? it is still RM2199? "

he said " Maybe ,from RM2199 to RM2499",but no sure the benQ still has store or not~ Why i get it today ? i cant wait to next week ,i need use laptop on next weekend ..it is urgent ...

For now , i try install win xp due to it is free doc ..dun know how ?~but i feel it DVD rom no good ,you must balance your laptop else you can hear noisy sound from that laptop...

It's not worth it. It's a display model and it's got a damn lock stuck to it. 500 off the retail price hardly justifies it. Any dealer at LYN could have given you a better deal, maybe not the same model. There are people at LYN that sell brand new/cancelled order/display at nearly half price.

omg ,i unable install window xp in my S42 now..
when i boot the winxp disc ,it appear blue screen in the progress...
so,i try boot the disc in Acer 4920,it is ok!

Windows XP doesn't come with ACHI/SATA drivers. Set your BIOS HDD controller to compatibility mode or slip in the drivers using some program which I can't remember, google it.

Yes,i found out that problem. The benQ S42 is optimize running in Vista (i not sure window 7) , if wan downgrade to Window XP ,it has some limitations in software and Driver (Geforce 9600 Gt able run in performance mode only).

If understand these limitations ,you can downgrade to window xp.
You need to set SATA setting in Bios to IDE (default is AHCI) and boot the XP disc... but i failed the booting ?! one more issue ,your BIOS version should be 3.02 version. But my S42 BIOS version is 1.15 now ...why so old ?

What should i do ? i downloading Window 7 and try to install it on tomorrow( i worry window 7 not work in BenQ S42) ,if fail again ..i need to install vista ,but tat is not my favorite window ~

xp for gaming only,since all my works are done under linux...
seeing so...i doubt if i install xp, will the game running as good as under vista/7?

for XP, u need to flash the BIOS to XP version, which would disable the GMA and run 9600M GT only... that's becuz XP do not support hybrid graphic at all due to memory management issues...

for Win7, i suggest u flash to the latest BIOS to Win7 version if u re considering installing BenQ's default graphic driver while u re still at Vista... u can skip this if u want to install modded driver instead...

DirectX is wat makes the graphic in games possible...

i am not very sure abt the detail of DX, but as far as gamer is concerned, each new DX upgrade would give u better effect, nicer, more realistic graphic... u can wiki it if u re interested...

GPGPU stands for General Purpose GPU, meaning to use the GPU (which is designed for graphic in the first place) for non-graphic related purposes to off load CPU resources for other purposes.. .for eg, decoding HD videos, real-time transcoding (cover from 1 format to another) of videos, application acceleration (ie photoshop), physics calculation (Nvidia PhysX), high performance computing, etc...

try Resident Evil 5.. there you got two options, play with X9.0 or X10

there are many new feature, but on tat bench i got pathetic performance

Yes,my downloading is pirate one la. if you want that original ,you should pay few hundred to purchase or download beta version ( it will expired soon)

in that case, juz install Win7 straight... then grab the modded driver...

yup, DX11 is more like a add on of DX10.1 and DX10, thus DX10 and DX10.1 cards will have partial support of DX11...

HELP ! i had successful installed Win 7 x64bit in my benQ. For that , i haven`t install any drivers for that yet.So i check the DxDiag , i saw that Display ,it display set is Mobil Intel chip set G45 ...( Why it is not Geforce 9600 GT ?) Ok , then i check device manager ..the Display Driver part ,it has two graphic driver ( Mobil Intel and one is VGA , i think that VGA is for Geforce 9600 GT la,but the VGA driver is not working properly). I downloading Hyper Graphich driver from BenQ now , but i saw that 1 document about Hyper Graphcihc in Window 7 ,the BIOS version must be 1.20 ( my bios is 1.12 now),so i download 1.20 bios firmware and run it to update bios ,it totally fail to update ...

how i solve this problem ?i search other thread ,some nvidia forum say no need update the BIOS ,instead search VGA driver that had modified to support S42 now...

fyi normal driver will not work on S42 unless u flash to the XP BIOS to use 9600M GT only... and BIOS 1.20 can only be flashed under Vista, it will not flash in Win7...

Thanks for help , I navigated to laptopvideo2go.com, I saw that Driver download list there , i should downlod the latest driver for Win7/x64 or go in forum and download driver them provide in "Dox's Customized Forceware Releases"

What is forceware? I feel benq not do well in upgrading to Window 7 .how come many limintations? huh~

as i said, the normal driver (aka Forceware as Nvidia calls it) will not work on S42 as NV has no plans to support hybrid graphic with Intel (most probably due to the fact that they still have some legal cases with Intel unsettled)

as for the trouble of driver, blame it on NV and Intel, as neither are willing to support this whole hybrid graphic thingy juz becuz they dun like each other, thus the need to rely on 3rd party driver modders... the idea of hybrid graphic is great, but without official support is still bad, and we as consumers suffer...

hmm, i spent whole day to install and uninstall graphic driver.conclusion , it is failed to load two driver properly.I downloaded nvidia driver from nvidia, it is not working in Win7 64bit; then i downloaded modded driver from Dox /laptopvideo2go , the installation had been failed. sad...try disable force signed feature when boot,it also failed...All failed..

I`m doublt it is my pirate window 7 RTM problem or others?
For now ,i think if i install Vista 32bit or Window 7 32bit , the driver for Geforce 9600M GT from nVidia can be work since the current driver did support window 7 64bit only...is it true?

I hav s42. I spent a lot of time on trying to get the hybrid drivers work on vista 64bit as well..
I can say that... forget about the hybrid driver... it is very unstable and buggy even you somehow able to get it work.... I did managed to get it work in Vista 64bit. It is better for you to just flash your BIOS to use the 9600M GT and under-clock it to save battery life.

Overall s42 is a great laptop, only the keyboard layout a bit sux and lack of updated/ constantly maintained drivers.

Sigh... the hybrid graphic is really cool... the hardware is there Yet nvida and intel refused to take care of the drivers...

guys , can tell me the S42 is comes with 1 x 2GB ram ?
