I have watched perfectly healthy threads been closed by moderators for really really ridiculous reasons.

I still remember there was one thread, it started talking about science, but the conversation drifted a bit towards philosophy.

No matter it was about science or about philosophy, the conversations were still on topic.

Then a mod shut the thread down, citing that it was a science thread and now it had become philosophical.

How ridiculous can that be?

Just because of a tag (science) the conversation isn't allowed to drift into philosophy?

How qualified is that moderator in the first place to know if philosophy isn't related to science, or vice versa?

If this PhD section supposed to be for forumers to discuss high-level ideas, how come moderators who can't understand anything are taking charge over here?

At the very least please send moderators who can comprehend higher level of thinking to take charge of the PhD section.

i nominate bgeh; his (her?) knowledge in physics is astounding (relative to the rest of the lyn population)

also azarimy (sp?) becasue i think he already has a phD smile.gif

be a true knowledge based sub forum, have mods that are smart rather than popular tongue.gif

I would prefer if Mods deleted the off-topic posts rather than closing the thread. I agree that Science and Philosophy are ultimately linked, and hence it is reasonable to drift from one to the other. But even if it goes completely off-topic, the thread should not be closed, the off topic posts can be deleted and the thread remain open.

i agreed, science and phisolophy are linked as both can be supportive of each others or have opposing effects.

in a discussion of higher level of thinking mod should provide reasonable explanation instead citing that it was a science thread and now it had become philosophical.

Mods here are some kind of newbies I would probably can think of.

What to do? Unless we really fight for our rights here and they still think they are some kind of PHD SCIENTIST? PUih

Of course we need some PhD principals to handle PhD school don't we? Or at least someone capable enough to comprehend these threads and offer reasonable explanation to the closing of a particular thread.

This section have always been full of nonsense.

It's a wonder some of the pointless rubbish threads are still here.

There are pointless rubbish thread, but you are being extremely unfair to all by saying that this section have always been full of nonsense.

Whatever that makes no sense to you doesn't automatically make it doesn't make sense to others.

Maybe it's you that can't comprehend that particular issue.

Should this matter to be posted at the Main Site/Forum Feedback and Helpdesk? Anyway, I had some jovial times in "dihydrogen monoxide" thread. Science is not always right.

Regards, Joey

p.s: Are you proposing that there should be a more "rightful" and "knowledgable" individual to moderate this section?

Not more "rightful" or "knowledgeable", but what is needed in this section is some moderators who can use their brains.

Is that too much to ask?

There's nothing much I can say. I understood your questioning but it would be under the authoritative personnel to review and consider your alleged recommendation, right?

I stand corrected.

It should be addressed as "liberal" instead of "rightful" or "knowledgeable". A moderator whom is "open minded" should be chosen to moderate this specific section. Let's just see how they want to go about this.

Regards, Joey

You got any examples & reason on the closed threads to backup your point?

You want me to pin point which thread?

And embarrass that mod who closed that thread?

And get me permaban?

All I can do for you is this, without pin pointing which thread and which moderator

"This is a science thread. But discussion has gone into philosophical ideas. Please create a new thread(philosophy and not science)."

and btw, that thread is one of 3 threads, that i am aware of, that were closed under similar circumstance

Point the thread out is not an act of embrassing the mod who close it, but prove what u say is true and let other point out their own opinion as well
It could be u urself or few other who think bout it only

For the science and philosophy thingy, it can be link but there are certain standard saying we should not mix them up as well
I wont know what and why but this question is better to ask the mod directly
However i believe there are significant diff between them that make them separate as two issue and better if dont mix them up

Although I've been missing out, but I do fondly remember a few months ago there were pretty silly threads in this section.
Particularly when it comes to undefinable objects/subjects; e.g. ghosts/time/space.

The discussion was not about discussion of that matter, but rather more towards 'what-if'

When someone think like Galileo Galilei propose a new/interesting/radical idea, do we tell him/her to shut up? and keep Galileo aside... so that people can discuss something more common

I agree that there are certain logics to our world, and there must be logic to UFO, Bermuda Triangles, Ghost, etc... and it's just that we haven't proof or dis-proof it. And most of the time, we come out with philosophy to reason out the logics... but who knows, philosophy might point to the discovery...

One thing for sure, PhD School thread requires moderator with a very very open mind

hmmm.... Can we know how we can find out the moderator nick and introduction? like how old, profession, male or female brows.gif

Found the moderator list, and means anybody that specialize on other forum can moderate PhD School?
