When the time comes, you guys will know. Not sure abt its ULF performance though.

You have doubts that the Captivator will go very low? Anyway, I think it has tuning at 20Hz and 15Hz.

at current exchange rates, that would be RM9k, but does it include shipping?
*
Of course doesn't include shipping (esp internationally).

If item is big n heavy.. shld add substantially to its cost..

Might as well get a sub locally..
*
Yeah, the shipping would be US$500-600 for something that big.

The problem is that locally the sub choices are more limited. And even if you could get it locally, is it still cheaper to import yourself? For those things which are available locally, if you import yourself still cheaper... like projector, speakers, etc.

Those days..

Want decent sub .. all go to REL.. all d rest are also rans..

Later when HT became more mainstream.. ported subs became popular n SvS [ n Hsu] filled de niche nicely wif their then affordable HT subs tat can trawl de depths effectively thou' its a trifle slow .. Then, as all gud things mus end.. SvS started to make their subs look nicer n raised their prices as well.. Other cos [rythmik is one] started filling in where SvS was  in providing no frills but kick ass subs n d rest is history..

Sealed Rythmiks subs are no push over for music either.. sum use a stereo pair n is veri happy wif de result.. Best is theres ample change even if u do get 2 rythmiks than a tua gong REL

There u are.. I rest my case concerning flagship avrs - I  mean pricing for em here in bolehland!

*
Yup, those days REL was one of the few specialist sub brands available locally. As I recall many of their subs are also ported. Were you saying that the REL subs are faster than some of the others like Hsu and SVS?

Hvnt really compared them side by side.. but those hifi shops swear by de REL name .. back then .. u mention SvS.. n they go 'dont waste ur money' .. initially la..
Common behaviour... shops will always praise products they carry and pooh-pooh competing products. You'll not hear them say "oh yeah that XXX is good also, same performance as what I'm selling but cheaper". smile.gif

jchong - off topic sikit. I saw from your signature you want to sell your Emotiva XPA3. Why, no good ah? I'm considering XPA5.
*
Firstly I wanted to move to a 5ch amp. Secondly I wanted even more power, with commensurate sound quality.

The Emotiva XPA series is good value for the money. Around it's price point it is hard to beat. However, that doesn't mean it is the best multich amp around. Having an XPA is a nice next step from just an AVR.

@Htkaki,, you mean only 4311 can go for dual sub,, if I wanna go dual sub, I have to change AVR.
But my Denon AVR come with two dual sub input le. rclxub.gif
*
Some other AVRs might have dual sub output, but they cannot correct for the two subs properly. To do this you need an AVR with XT32 like the Denon 4311 or Onkyo 3008/5008.

My bad. If it is 5508, then it is very cheap and tempting (speaking on behalf of you if you don't mind)
*
Yes, the price in SG for the 5508 is tempting indeed. ronaldjoe was trying to poison me into getting one as well. smile.gif

Yes, you should go for it.
With your current super power amp and speakers, , it will be a killer combo.
Then you can pass the 4311 to me cheep cheep  brows.gif  whistling.gif

No plans to upgrade the 4311 yet (though temptation is there). Been changing this and that over the last year, hardly have any item stay longer than 1 year+. Still got 1-2 more items pending. After that I think it's time to give the upgraditis a rest... temporarily at least smile.gif

Meaning to say that once we set the crossover frequency at the receiver, we must turn off the crossover at the sub (set it to the highest freq)?
*
Yes, that is normally the case.

The additional output from Y-splitter is just the same effect as turning up the volume knob. So there is no need to waste money getting the splitter. Remember the splitter is not magically increasing the capability of your sub.

Oh? Thanks for the advice pal! Save me some quids  laugh.gif

Anyway, I have had my setup all in ''Large Speakers'' decided by the auto calibration and recently realised good bass management suggests that all speakers set to ''Small'' let all the LFE pass to the sub.

I had a go and discover bass is increased tremendously however in some certain part, bass sounded bit too much and bloomy, I am not sure if I should switch back to ''Large Speakers'' Setting or stick with small but tweek a bit on the subwoofer setting
*
I'd suggest you stick to "small" and do some tweaking.

i realised my surround speakers distorted whenever there's heavy LFE... all my speakers are set SMall & at 80Hz..

as for the sub.. i've turned off the LPF and adjusted it to max 85Hz.. sub volume at around 45 hmm...

izzit speakers Hz settings not right?
*
What kind of surround speakers do you have?

Rarely hear of surround speakers distorting due to heavy bass.

im temporarily using satellite speakers and tested Rambo 4 blu-ray.. distorted during VERY BIG explosions... sweat.gif or is it because of the source can't output 7.1 on my 5.1?
*
I think the problem lies with your satellite speakers. They probably cannot handle down to 80Hz with loud volume. Like htkaki said, try setting the crossover higher.

The advantage of the Sub2 is massive clean bass in a relatively small footprint.

If you don't have any space constraints, then going multi subs with the likes of Submersive HP, Captivator, etc would I suspect give better performance.

That said, the design and size of the Sub2 is much more sexy than the rest.
