The Torus is a rare animal. Doubt anybody here has much experience with it.

I still don't quite understand how it works, but looking at the specs it might be more suited to music than HT. The max output is 100dB at 1m (not specified which freq), which will probably not be enough for movies.

Click also on the "Ear Sensitivity" chart to see how our ear perceives the frequencies. Due to low sensitivity to bass, bass needs to play louder in order to be perceived on similar/equal loudness to the mid and higher freq.

The chart's bottom limit is 20Hz. They should just expand the graph to have the limit at 10Hz, otherwise the chart doesn't show what they claim.

The LFE in Unstoppable is more the rumbling type. In terms of bass variety, not very much.

It's all in the room and setup. Great that htkaki has the options for space behind and in front. Some of his suggestions I cannot try since I don't have enough space at the back of the couch. Also, he's got the time and experience in how to optimize his setup.

That's some serious amplification for the speakers. What speakers is he using?

Firstly you should know that every sub has its limits. Even those expensive ones have limits, although their limits are generally higher than smaller/cheaper subs. Please don't think that your sub (or any sub) is indestructible.

Anyway, how loud were you playing the movie? What is your sub trim in the AVR? How about the volume knob in the sub? Was Audyssey on or off? How large is your room?

Try turning off Audyssey, then replay that Iron Man 2 scene. See got bottom out or not. Keep everything else the same.

You're welcome. Actually some sub owners have reported this issue in AVS and very frequently by turning off Audyssey it solves the problem.

I believe it's because Audyssey can apply a lot of boost in the lower octaves (like maybe below 20-30Hz) and this can in some cases overdrive your subs. I believe with careful positioning and taking advantage of room gain, you can overcome this and have Audyssey on without causing your sub to bottom out.

This means you're overdriving your sub. If the sound is very bad, that is probably distortion you're hearing since you turned up the volume high.

If you like your bass louder and played without distortion then you need a more powerful sub.
