According to FiringSquad:

The already expensive $599 Playstation 3 will be even more expensive if you want to experience true HDTV resolutions in your games and movies. The official Playstation 3 web site in its
FAQ section confirms that displaying movies in 1080p resolution will require a TV with an HDMI output and cable. Unfortuately you will have to buy that cable separately since the PS3 will not come with one.

My browser wasn't working in the PS3 Site just now.
And here is what it says:
///
Video output in HD requires cables and an HD-compatible display, both sold separately. Copy-protected Blu-ray video discs can only output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP standard. HDMI cable not included. Additional equipment may be required to use the HDMI connector.
