more rabbits?? shocking.gif how do u bond with so many at 1 time?
your "teddy bear" is small coz they are underage..

those pet shops use bengy coz it's cheap..i dont think they bother to feed them the expensive ones since pet shops are more to earning money then caring for rabbit health ...tat's why i op for home breed rabbit..

just wanna clarify, justiny i dont think u buy rabbit because of the breed right?..if so better not simply post up the breeds and confuse people if u are not sure of it..coz i myself i'm learning about various breeds to see what i should work on next time..and so far your teddy bear/english anggora/turkish anggora kits just looks the same to me...they look like what claimed to be anggora rabbits that are sold in petshops..they might have the long coat gene of an anggora thats true but just dont brand them with a special breed..what i'm saying is...like dogs mongrels also have long fur but they dont have a special breed that are still called mongrels or at least a mix breed with a certain pedigree dog maybe...belive me i rather research on the overseas breeders then refering to petshops for breeds..i never heard of teddy bear and turkish anggora.maybe turkish anggora cat sound familiar but i'm not very knowlegable in cats..

it is very clear that u like long coat anggora mix rabbits...enjoy grooming them..u can collect the fur and make a pillow out of it..

Added on February 22, 2010, 7:28 pmi'm not against any breed...i myself have a mix breed lion head..i claimed it to be closer to a lion head coz she has a mane and long fur on the chest..rabbit makes great pets and i'm sure everyone here agrees with me.even local breeds turn out beautiful due to their unique colours and shades..i just dont like petshops branding their rabbits a particular breed that dont exist...it makes no sense why they are doing that
*
Actually I am more interested on how the rabbits look, colors and size that appealing to me. In fact, I also noticed that male rabbits make better pet than female. Female tends to turn aggressive after adulthood. Grooming time is the bonding time with my pets.

Collect the fur for pillow? Eeewww....a bit unhygeine isn't it?

kekkeke..i was just joking la..haha biggrin.gif

but anggora rabbits are raised for the wool..it's a true thing..
*
Yup..I saw that on the website too..European use the wool to knit some clothing too. Hmm.....may be I could one day, when I collect enough wool, and learn how to clean the wool first. hmm.gif

Added on February 23, 2010, 1:09 pmThis is an eye opener for me...some of the blogs whom they claimed they are rabbitry breeders, I visited one and found out that the condition of the rabbits they keep is really shocking to me. I know some people have to make a living out of breeding, but....breeding inside the apartment balcony is making me speechless...see in this blog doh.gif. I understand everyone have to start somewhere, but really wondering where he throw the rabbits droppings? Inside the toilet sewage pipe?

http://miepeatyrabbit.blogspot.com/

My initial understanding of rabbitry breeders like those commercial breeders such as this:

Very happy that my tiny Mashimaro are gaining weight since I brought them home! Seeing them growing week by week is really exciting...!

However the other one which I bought recently, it had diarrhea on the next day when I brought it home. Took it to the vet, and given antibiotic, stop the diarrhea already, but after 2 days of recovery, it is still not gaining much weight. sad.gif

u must be very careful giving antibiotics to rabbit because rabbit rely on the normal flora of good bacteria in the stomach..many vets in malaysia are not aware of this and not all antibiotic are safe for rabbits..better to ask..
good they are growing..

This morning 8am found out that the one which was not gaining much weight sick bunny already dead and harden. cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

sorry to hear about that. This is actually the reason why I had asked about the age of the bunnies when I first saw the photos. They do look a bit too young to be separated from the mother. This is something important to watch out for in the future too if you get more rabbits.
*
Actually the dead one was not from the Thailand stocks. The Thailand stocks were very healthy, they are gaining weight and active. The dead one was in fact already 2 months old, I bought from a local seller from Semenyih, I SMS him about the condition of the bunny 2 days ago, he did suggested me to bring it back to him let him take care of the bunny until recovery, but I thought I could manage it myself....sigh...well..I have myself to blame.

I buried it in my own garden.

Today went to PLC in Mines, cannot find Oxbow for rabbit pellets, I don't want to buy other colorful type, so I choose "Chubbypetsgraden" Pro Optimum. I think it should be safe to use on young and baby rabbits, right? How about the 2 years old rabbit? I did read from somewhere saying adult rabbit should be 14% protein. Not sure 2 years old consider too senior?

I opened up this Pro Optimum, very fresh smell...I like it! wub.gif

It is a good feed. My rabbits fur are all shiny and healthy with this feed.

Yesterday I noticed my young rabbits having smellier poo, so I quickly switch to this brand, and their poo look great and not smelly.. very effective.

I think the Oxbow pellets pack given by my friend was not fresh, her rabbit died, so she gave away the balance pellets to me. I think that is the reason why the young rabbits are having soft stool. As I didn't give any fresh veg to the young this 2 weeks, only hay and pellets.

Wondering where could I get his Pro Optimum brand in bigger pack (6kg pack) beside buying online? I saw the price online is RM107, but the handling fee is nearly 15%, not really worth to buy online.

I notice one of my rabbits nose got yellow stain, wondering is it sign of flu? Its poo and pee seem normal. Will rabbit catch flu? Will it pass the illness to others? Should I separate it from others?

Today 2 of my rabbits died, both having same symptom, wet nose. This happening too fast...yesterday spotted one and today spotted another one, then both died in the evening. Took to the vet, but still died. I hope the rest that share the same cage could be safe. I removed the rest of the bunnies into another cage, and then wash the cage thoroughly with vinegar, hopefully this will disinfect the virus.

I finally got my long awaited mini lops. Looks very tiny, see the size as compared to the 3.5" food bowl. Wondering is it tiny because under age (below 2 months old?), or really they are mini in size. Anyway, as long as they are below 1.5kg when adult, I would be very happy liao.

12 RABBITS???!!!!  rclxms.gif
how do u handle all of them? my ONE little rascal is already super demanding  notworthy.gif
how do u keep their play area clean? share some tips with us newbies please icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Play area is in garden, no need to clean. Cages 2 days clean once. Those below 3 months old, I no longer put them in the garden to play first, as I afraid they eat too much grass, later will cause diarrhea or stomach upset.

Morning - check one round on their well being.
Noon - check one more round, refill the water if necessary
Evening - check one more round, fill up food and water.

In between, randomly pick a few out to play and bond with them. I basically nothing much to do during day time, will spend time with my pets, I have a maid that do cooking, and house cleaning chores. rclxms.gif

Oh~~No no...mayb the pic look like that. Her nose is a little bit red one. Just bring her to visit vet for a check up during last 2 weeks and the vet said she is fine.  rclxms.gif

Did you bring her to a rabbit-savvy vet? Because some vets are not very familiar with small animal illness and treatment.

I also see the nose like bald and red spot. Possible sign of mites problem.

@ Juztiny & yueyi

Thanks guys for the concern. I bring her to the vet that suggest in the 1st page of this thread.

Heshmael Clinic For Pets Sdn Bhd
21-1, Dataran Sunway, Jln PJU 5/13, Kota Damansara, 47000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

Is it okay?? Or i should visit another??  icon_question.gif
*
Well..you don't need to bring to another vet yet. If you have some herba oil at home (i.e. Minyak Zaitun, Neem Oil or Euca??), you can apply on that bald spot first. Observed for few days and see any improvement or not, if getting worse, then only bring to vet.

This is the method I normally used on my guinea pig, if got fungal problem.

Alam Damai vet. This vet I trusted him, he is very honest, and he is very experienced too, further more he won't simply slaughter people's neck.
