hi all, i have a question abt credit card oustanding balance.

my sister is having high debt ratio for her credit card and she got no other card to do balance transfer in order to save the high interest.

is this possible to write in letter to the existing credit card company to ask for installment plan for the card in few months period and lower down the itnerest?

Can but you need to reconsider this option coz normally it is meant for cc defaulting customers. I don't think you or your sister would want to have such a bad record. Plus although the option is available but it is up to the bank to decide - not necessarily they will agree to your proposal.

Best if she could consider taking a personal loan option from the bank - at least this still achieve your end objective which is to avoid paying high interest.

dear hye, tx for the advise. i guess i shall tell this to my sister. i had told her to take personal loan but she said her friend advised her to negotiate with bank for this.

okay. tq so much for sharing this info smile.gif

jst a mini update of my past enquiry of installment payment of credit card debt.

my sister wrote in letter and request of balance isntallment payment without incurring any interest. jst after 2 days and got the call from mbb that the plan approved and able to repay in 3mths time. however, the usage will be ceased for 3mths during the repayment. the card will back to normal after payment done within 3mths smile.gif

Just want to ask here as I'm also facing the similar situation
Is that mean if I charge RM3k for installment of 6 month on my 4k cc on Jan 2010,

1) Jan charged RM3k, i left RM 1k credit limit
2) Feb pay the 1st installment RM500, i still left RM 1k credit limit (not RM1.5k or RM4k)
3) March pay 2nd installment of RM 500, i still left Rm 1k credit limit, bla bla bla same for the following months
4) Last month July, I pay the last RM 500, then I have my credit limit back to RM4k

Is my calculation above correct? Or the bank using other formula?

Please help, thank you.

u cant just pay without informin the bank. i advise u to write in letter to request to installment and subject to their approval smile.gif

I beg to differ. Credit card is way better than cash provided you're the kind who knows to only spend within your means. Credit card has an interest free period of up to 50 days. I usually pay only on the last day before my credit card bill is due so i can let my money to earn more interest inside my savings account  tongue.gif
I believe you are referring to the AMEX Gold credit card instead of any AMEX Charge Card as it is the card that gives you 5x MR points besides AMEX Ikhwan credit card and Maybank Petronas credit card.
The Citibank SHELL credit card doesn't give you 5% rebate on petrol. It is much lower than that. You will only get 5% rebate on petrol if you have any carried forward balance which really is no point. The AMEX Gold credit card is good enough as it gives you a minimum rebate of 2.5% on fuel purchases. The rebate percentage could be even higher if you use the MR points accumulated to redeem certain vouchers such as MPH Bookstore vouchers which require a lot less MR points than other shopping vouchers in the MR catalogue.

hi dearie, oic. ya, we have both charge and credit card as well.

too bad we didnt have any carried forward and will not enjoy the citibank shell card then.. tq for the in depth explanation

it is recommended to use amex as this will "encourage" you to settle the bill in full payment every mth b4 due date to avoid high interest charge rather than carrying forward yr oustanding balance mths to mths

correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Amex have the lowest interest rate among all local credit cards? 9% vs 12-18%
*
yes amex credit card is 9% p.a. until year 2012

however, amex charge card is higher

Minimum need to submit another bank's platinum credit card (more than 1 year old with reasonable platinum grade credit limit) as proof. Otherwise your sister really need to spend extra ordinarily in her current gold card with good paymaster history. Or if your sister's salary goes into the same bank, just ask them check her account as proof of income.

tq. ya she been good payer and strong spending that's y wana switch to platinum card but havent gotten any platinum card in her hand yet. wana get the first platinum.

tq for yr advise.

I use my MBB Amex Gold Credit Card (with MBB logo) and I always get 2x TP (not MR), when paying hotels and foods overseas.

Same with my Amex's Amex Gold Credit Card (no MBB logo), even when purchasing online using USD or other foreign currency.

e.g. S$100
= RM245 (a bit higher rate)
= x2
= 490 TP

Look for promo, sometimes the plat card will offer 5x or 10x TP/MR for overseas spending.

now the problem is, i swap with my mbb cc platinum oversea transaction but i didnt get 2x points. which kinda confusing

As for the generic MBB plat card, entitled 2x points too for overseas transactions.  rclxms.gif

tx alec.. it is clear. i used the mbb classic to swap for overseas hence i didn get the 2x points.

noted, i will take note of this and rem to use pla instead for overseas spending

I'm applying for a card for the first time. Thinking of doing it at Maybank.
Do you think I can still apply for one if I don't reach the minimum annual income?

Perhaps u try mbf

guys, some question about cash advance from credit card.

lets say i have a credit limit of only rm3k. already used rm1k. so there is a balance of rm2k.

according to the cc agreement book, it say "50% of credit line & subject to available credit balance or whichever that is lower"

does that mean i can only take 50% of rm2k (available credit balance) , or 50% of 3k (full credit)?

thanks. sorry for any error as i`m typing with one hand smile.gif
*
it is suppose to be 50% of the available credit balance which is your balance of 2k.

I got rejected by Standard Chartered for their Credit Card and Personal Loan.

The representative said that because I don't have any loan or other cards so the bank sees me as high risk.

Does that me I have to get a car loan first ??
*
not really. so far i know scbb credit security dpmt has slightly higher and tighter rules in approving credit facility.

If you have strong income supporting documents should not be a problem. or u shall start to apply local banks first like cimb, mbb, before getting the overseas banks.
