Some official statement from Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) regarding RM50 service tax.
RM50 service tax will be charge upon card issuance or anniversary (which some credit card users already knew this) and point redemption can be used to pay off RM50 service tax.

To waive RM50 gov tax, I think the cheapest option available now is Amex Gold CC, just need to spend RM2k on petrol and groceries OR spend RM5k on other purchases to get 10k MR points.
Hope other banks will offer better card next year that gives more rebates... also hope SCB will reinstate JustOne and lower annual income requirements from previous 40k to 30k so I'm eligible to apply tongue.gif

2k on petrol is just easy, you have to spend about 40 per week only.

For 5k, you need to spend about RM100 per week, not easy or difficult.

But you spend so hard just to cover the RM50? and get nothing?
*
Well its not that I want to do this. But I still need a CC in case of emergency and for bill payment.
Thanks to our smart G, we need to spend more now.

i hv terminated my 2x cimb cc last mth, surprisingly both acc are still active, some scheduled routine transaction such as NKF still can charge on me, is cimb going to absorb the rm50?

I think you need to give them a call and tell them to cancel your card. I submitted my cancellation during mid of Nov, called them early Dec and was surprised they have not received my cancellation. But luckily the CS is good and she help me to close my account on the spot during call. Then I received official cancellation letter on last week of Dec...

Hi all, does SCB give RM150 welcome bonus for successful new card application? How about other banks? How much do they give? I search Citibank, HSBC and SCB but cant seem to find this info from their site.

I got RM100 for my Plat and for gold is RM50 only. Not bad... literally paying my service tax for two years.
*
Thanks for feedback. Considering service tax being charged for new card issuance, I think cards that offer $$ as welcome bonus would be a good choice to apply. But so far I only know SCB giving $$ as welcome bonus.

For those planning to buy from Sony, I think its best to apply for MBB SonyCard since it offer 10x points for every RM1 spent. Eg. a 4k laptop will earn you 40k treatpoints which you can use 10k to waive service tax for 1 year...

I got hardcopy statement for my DA cancellation.

Added on January 19, 2010, 9:01 amJust checked my Jan 2010 statement, I do not see RM50 tax charged... my card anniversary month is 01, however I applied the card on July 2009 and received the card on Aug 2009, could this be the reason I'm not being charged yet?

When did you activate your card?
By right, your card's anniversary should be July/Aug rather than Jan.
*
Around Aug 2009. But 01 is printed on my card.
The anniversary month is same with my ex-Petronas card. Could it be when you own more than 1 card that share 1 credit limit, anniversary month will be same for all cards?

But thinking about it, its really not fair for me getting charged RM50 tax for less than a year old CC...

QUOTE(ck_tonny @ Jan 19 2010, 07:14 PM)
Wat is ur statement date? I oso dun c the service tax on the online card statement, wait until 26th then c got charge or not.
*
Statement day is 18th. Will further check after i got paper statement... but I think nothing will change for this month statement...

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jan 19 2010, 07:43 PM)
That is because the credit card tax will only be charged the following month. For example, if your credit card anniversary is in 01/13, the credit card tax is chargeable in February every year.
*
Hmm gonna call CS to check this tomorrow...

QUOTE(ronnie @ Jan 19 2010, 11:21 PM)
Looking at the expiry date may not be the exact anniversary month they charge the RM50. Best to call the CS.

Thanks, will call CS to check tomorrow...

Yes i think their 10k reward points is to attract people to apply for their platinum card and waive the service tax later

It's stated in their website that just swipe 3x in 60 days and you can get 1st year annual fee waived.

Noted their T&C:

1. This Citibank Berhad ("Citibank") Platinum 5X Rewards Points feature ("5X Rewards Points Feature") will run from 19th March 2010 onwards.

2. Citibank reserves the right to cancel, terminate or suspend the 5X Rewards Points Feature with 21 calendar days’ notice.

Anyway it's a good offer by citibank  rclxms.gif

Yeah, its kinda good offer but too bad I'm not even qualified for a plat card tongue.gif
Gonna stay with Amex Gold CC now and plan my spending at outlets that accepts Amex...

Hi. Want to ask a question.

I just bought an oversea server. I filled in my name, card no, adress etc but no CVV. And my account approved (they receive my payment).

My question is, can your card really pay online even if you dont give ur CVV? I mean when my dad want to buy airline tickets (airasia, mas etc), always see him giving the CVV. So why my case no need...

Asking coz it seems the security quite loose...
*
I previously bought from Microsoft online and they do not require CVV for the transaction...
I guess only those big shot company able to do transaction with CVV?
