Dear All,

Need some feedback from you guys, please assist (thanks in advance): -
- Am currently Maxis user (ported out from Celcom 2 weeks ago)
- Using 16GB iPhone 3GS with 3.1.2 and 5.11.7
- Problem discovered - while on GPRS/EDGE, Data has got higher priority than Voice. I.e. while there is data connection established, your voice will be routed through Voicemail. Of course this won't happen on 3G/HSDPA connection.
- To test the above - Turn Off 3G, then load any heavy website. While it's loading, quickly use another phone to call your iPhone.

Would appreciate if Digi (iPhone) user can assist on the below as well: -
- Turn off 3G
- On your dial pad, please key in *3001#12345#*, then choose "GSM Cell Environment", then followed by "GPRS Information", then please advise the value of "Network Operating Mode". If it's 002, I would assume you will have the same problem which I am facing. If the NOM is 001, then I guessed the Voice should have higher priority than Data - LUCKY!
- Tested on some Celcom and Maxis transceiver tower, so far, all are running on NOM 002 sad.gif sianz....

Thank you all and hope to have some feedback, enjoy your day ahead.

Regards,

Seb

Thank you so much for trying it out.

Solution would be, stick to 3G/HSDPA as close as possible. If you are moving around like me with push mail, then no luck or fixed yet. Unless maxis willing to change to NOM 1 (maybe).

But strangely it works on others (not iPhone), e.g. My E72. But my bro in law over at NZ has got no issue as Vodafone NZ is running on NOM 1.

Hmmmm I am frustrated over at this. Might be worth calling Maxis and complaint that as long as GPRS/EDGE is running/loading, voice has lower priority and it goes to voicemail.

Arrrrggghhhh.... Frustrated!

Thanks once again.

guys,
Im using iphone 2G and stupidly subscribed to Digi's unlimited internet RM58 package, just to find out THIS problem!

Nothing can break through during the data connection, calls+sms+mms.

Some sms' just never arrived at all, like, disappeared. Some arrived few days late!

really regret to have subscribed to a data plan that turns my handphone into netbook....urghhh

Sigh, maxis user here. Facing the same problem too. What's worse is that my area is covered by edge only. Whenever I use data nothing comes in. Maybe nom2 can make more $ coz data n voice mail can charge customers...

arghhhh fed up with this issue....now i hafto stop all my push notifications coz of this!

I need to manually disable edge thru SbSetting when not surfing net, to allow calls n sms come in

Then, when I need to surf, I manually enable edge again.

What a pain in the ass.....nokia, blackberry can halt edge when incoming call or sms, WHY NOT IPHONE!?!?!?

Hi Guys... just wondering anyone of you have experience this problem... when I'm using 3G (like browsing or updating things), I would always receive miss call notifications SMS. I even tried it myself and the call will not be able to get through when I using 3G to download data. I've call the Maxis helpline and they couldn't solve my problem and say it might be the SIM card problem.

Btw, I am using 3GS so anyone can help?

What answer have you found? Mind sharing?

Well, this seems to happen to all iphones;2G,3G,3Gs

Just gathering infomation; mind jotting down the info of your iphones?

Iphone Model: 2G,3G, or 3Gs ?
Firmware : 3.x.x ?
Jailbroken : Yes/No?
If yes : blackra1n, pwnagetool?
Surfing using : Edge / 3G ?
Missed calls during surfing: Yes/No?

wanna nail down the the culprit of the problem, I cant accept the fact that the supposedly premium handphone REJECT calls during surfing. It should STOP the surfing session and allow calls to come in! (like Nokie E72 or Blackberry). And yes I read all about the NOM1 and NOM2 that prioritising data over calls or vice versa on EDGE network, but how come other devices can halt the data and allow calls in?

Mine:

Iphone Model: 2G
Firmware : 3.1.2
Jailbroken : Yes
If yes : blackra1n
Surfing using : Edge
Missed calls during surfing: Yes !!!!!!!!!!

Guys, please contribute...thanks.

Well the NOM 002 is the culprit so at least this is the answer I was loooking for... well it is not that a big problem to me because I'm not a heavy surfer (can't do much with 500MB per month anyway) but I do find it a bit frustrating when call couldn't came in when I'm using 3G data...

Iphone Model: 3GS
Firmware : 3.1.2
Jailbroken : No
If yes : -
Surfing using : 3G
Missed calls during surfing: Yes

nothing much that one can do with regards to this IMHO.

it is just how the maxis network operate in general.

i use my iPhone predominantly with optus, virgin and "3" and i have only encountered such problems upon my arrival in malaysia.

I beg to differ, nokia E72 can halt the edge and allow incoming calls. Yes, tested on both my iphone and the nokia using the same SIMcard.
It seems like hardware limitation, or firmware issue?

nothing that can be done.

as explained above, it is due to the variant of GSM that the local networks are currently on.

i nearly ruptured a vein throughout my three months of summer in malaysia due to this.
