The team tried .. but there were obvious limitations : Insua, Degen, Ngog, Kuyt ... Lucas! Tonight, Reina kept us in the game and Krgyiakos made a huge contribution.

The players were so nervous .. anxious in fact.  It was as though they were expecting Stoke to score at the last minute ..! They have to overcome this psychological meltdown and obviously, Rafa is not able to do it.

I do not think that we have a weak squad at all.

In defense we have Reina (easily the best keeper in the EPL by a country mile at the moment), a choice of Johnson, Insua, Aurelio and Degen as fullbacks and Carragher, Agger, Skrtel and Kyrgiakos vying for two centerback spots.

In the center of the park we have Gerrard (who despite me not liking him is a top, top player), Mascherano (regarded as the best defensive midfield bugger in the business at the moment), Aqualani and Lucas. We also have Benayoun and now Maxi (who can both also play through the middle). Out wide, there's Babel and Reira.

Upfront we might be a tad light with Kuyt and N'gog but we also have arguably the most complete striker in the world in Torres.

I have not even included the youngsters like Spearing, Pacheco etc.

True, we have had rotten luck with injuries, but the squad is waaay better than most of what the managers of other EPL teams have to make do with.

Laugh all you want. At least he defended well, made runs and even get to the penalty box. He worked hard to tackle, doesn't get manhandled and even have the guts to shoot unlike the others who pass wide and expect a great cross from the wingers only to find a LB/RB as their wingers. He's been assigned at the center, not left or right. Does the goal came straight from the middle? Nope. That's a good performance for a backup of Alonso while Masch is still getting back to his feet.

Reina is MOTM for me. He saved one point-blank header from Fuller and punched/palmed away many crosses - if not for him, I think Liverpool would have lost again ..

It occurred to me when I was watching a replay of one of those Stoke corners (or throw-ins), our defenders don't cover the middle when the ball float over .. as if they were expecting the goalie to get it. There was one moment when THREE Stoke players went to head the ball in the middle with Skrtle, Krgyiakos and Carra nicely split and watching ...!

Is how the manager make use of it that's important.Sticking with those undroppable will get you nowhere and I'm amazed Sammy didn't do a thing about it.He is the assistant ffs.If rafa do smth wrong, scold the shit out of him.If he still ignore, resign!

Reina - agreed
Gerrard - look degrade
Mascherano - ppl said best DM in world? but he's not effective,, Essien is best DM in world,, but in FIFA 2010 no doubt mascherano is the best
Aquilani - havent prove much
Lucas - MOST IMPROVED ( hahaha )
Benny - no comment
Maxi - nothing special for me
Kuyt - rolleyes.gif

What can Sammy do? He lost his job at Bolton .. that's a stigma - I don't think he has the confidence to criticize Rafa. You can see from their body languages, Rafa is not bothered with Sammy .. he talks more with his own man, Pellegrini. I think Sammy was brought in due to pressure from the Liverpool Boardroom and/or the Kop.

Weird that's how we treat our player.First, it was Kuyt being blamed for everything last 2 season. Then, last season, it was Lucas. This season, Insua and Skrtel. sweat.gif

Agree, tonite we play like no tactics. Just kick the ball, no holding midfield. I don't know which players, defence one. Seem like everytime get the ball can't pass very fast, wait, untill opponent closing us down. Again we lost goal on set pieces. The defence just don't really notice the ball and flow play. It seems they already set what to do, w/o really check the situation. That goal, we were hope for offside. That's why no players at back there. When the ball first pass and headed by Stroke players, our players seem trying to run front to set offside trap. But unfortunately, the ball passed in very short time. And very fast it was headed in goal.

Yes, Sammy was brought in as a cheerleader.

And our defenders could have done with a little bit more composure. We knew the only way Stoke was going to get anything was from set pieces but time and time again we concede corners and throw ins. Good thing that Delap fella had to leave early. Diao was a poor doppelganger laugh.gif

i can predict most of his running into the box just for getting corner & not direct score goal.. then we sux at corner & corner kicked the defender make a clearance & the chance gone... it's a rountine for us.. many of our player doin tat,,, kuyt / aurelio / insua .. not only lucas

Well, Gerrard's sulking ways and glaring lack of "we need to improve" comments hardly inspire much confidence of him wanting to stay init?

Morale is low. I don't get it. Their wages are effing high. For some reason, we don't glue together this season. I guess it's just a period of bad spells. Everton went for top 4 a few season ago but now they're on the bottom half of the table. I was worried when they show Stevie's face earlier, like he was thinking "wtf i gotta get out of here"
