Hi, i am planning to get Toshiba Qosmio F60-S531.
And here i have a few questions to ask.

* How is the build for this laptop ? Is there any parts that will spoilt easily ?
* How about the heat sink for the laptop ? Does it produce a lot of heat ? Does it get overheated very easily ?
* Of all the Toshiba user here do you guys get a lot of hardware problem ? Like, LCD flickering ? or Overheating ? faulty HDD ? etc etc ?
* How exactly does the warranty works ? I get 1 year warranty and i have to register online to activate the 1 year warranty ? If i wan to extend i have to be there in person to Teledynamics ? Or i can just call them ?
* It's running on i3-350m which is 2.26Ghz and using GT 330m, I am worried that the processing power isnt strong enough for me or to last for upcoming softwares in 2 years time.
* All information i can find about it's HDD is only 500GB with shock absorbers. Does anyone here know if it's running on 5400rpm or 7200rpm ?
* How is the sound quality of the Harmon Kardon speaker ? I am not expecting super powerful speaker, it just needs to be decent, not too soft, and balanced overall. Is it so ?

I think i asked too many questions here but it's a investment for me as i am gonna put in money and use it for quite sometime.

Thanks in advance for answering my doubts. Very much appreciated.

Wow...thanks for the effort to reply to my questions, thanks so much.

Hmm ? Why are you suprised that there are people interested in Qosmio F60 ?
I cant afford any more than this 1 actually. But from what i see there are a few models from Asus that have better specs than F60-S531 and even cheaper. Well it uses better processor (i5-460m) but weaker graphics (GeForce 310m). It's just that i'm worried Asus might not be long lasting as Toshiba do and i am very very concerned about overheating cause my previous laptop suffered badly from overheating and lousy hardware.
How about Toshiba vs Dell ? If compared Dell with Toshiba ? What's your opinion ?

I think GT330m is already sufficient for me already. I dont really game much actually...some casual games maybe, and only for short period everytime.
I go for Qosmio cause i heard Toshiba is quite good (there are people saying otherwise also) and my friends' laptop which i seen by myself is quite low on heat that's why i wanted to get it. For me most important is the physical quality of the laptop rather than very very good specs but break down very often.
I have another Asus in mind too (but i aint sure of the exact model), but i am just worried about how durable is it and how good it's heatsinking is.

So are you satisfied with your Qosmio ? Whats the thing you are not satisfied with ?

They offer both 32bit and 64bit or all new units mandatory comes with 32bit ? If i opt-ed for 64bits when ordering, suppose they will make sure everything works then only deliver it to me ? Or the shop i buy from is gonna fix it for me ? For this i will have to clarify with the shop first.
Hmm... Asus A42Jv is quite a good pick too, good specs and good price. Still, i am concern for its durability.
Another pick for me is Dell Inspiron 15R, i5-460m + HD 550v which i cant find much review on its graphic. And as it's quite a new series i dunno anything about it's durability and heatsinking ability.

Can i ask a big favour from you ? Can you please take a few photos of your F60 ? Cause i cant find much photo for F60...all i can get for Qosmio is X500. Photos featuring it's speaker, keyboard, a clearer version of the bottom part of your laptop, feather-touch button ? Sorry to have you troubled, its okay if you cant or you dont want biggrin.gif
Cause i'm at my hometown and all the shops doesnt have this model on display. If want they have to order from their supplier.

Hmm...you just pushed me further towards F60. Hahah...
Wow...thanks for all the advice and info. Very very much appreciated. Well i'm still thinking...until i clarified with the shop.
Btw, your F60 is using Blu-ray Drive ? I tot it's using DVD-drive ? Maybe it's the difference between BD531 and S531.
Btw, does your model LOOKS the same with the 1 on the notebookcheck.net's review you linked ?

A42Jv really stock out too fast...selling very fast and there's a online seller saying it's already phase out ? I thought it's just being replaced recently ? When you said R series is quite warm i am about to wipe this model off my mind. LOL.

OMG i'm so poisoned by Qosmio F60.

Thanks for all the comments and advice. smile.gif
So for the first run out of the box i can actually choose whether to run on 32bit or 64bit after that ?
I dont need very new graphic card as i dont play much game, and i couldnt afford laptop with GT 4XXM too. So i think laptops with GT330m and GT335m are okay for me.
Nop, i dont need backlit keyboard, i dont need FULL HD screen(but if it does have and the machine is within my budget then yes, why not ?) and i dont need Blu-ray burner. I just need a decent, lower-middle class laptop that are okay with some casual gaming like CoD and Warcraft(which almost every system can play), and most importantly does not get overheat easily and does not have any hardware problem easily. I need something reliable.

p/s: Wat's with Toshiba Value Added Package ?

Hmm. I ordered Qosmio F60 S531 yesterday. The ladyboss in the shop tell me the windows is preloaded, *supposed to be preloaded*. But everything have to wait till i get hold of my piece of F60 until i can confirm. And ya, it comes with 3 years warranty.
I heard in the box it comes with a plastic casing to protect the glossy finish ?

Preloaded as in it either comes with 32bit or 64bit. I dont get to choose on the startup. But she isnt very sure though. That's what she told me lar...and i told her not to unbox my machine until i get there, just in case.
Currently they've got no stock for this machine, still waiting for it. If fast then tomorrow(saturday) can get it, if not then it'll be next Monday or Tuesday.
Is it a plastic sheet like a screen protector or it's a hard transparent case ?

Yup.... All Toshiba units comes preloaded with both 32-bit/64-bit (which is why so many problems haha). Anyway, you get to choose which (32-bit or 64-bit) during your 1st time installation. So if you don't get that option, it means that they have already open your laptop and installed it before selling to you. You can check whether you are running on 32-bit or 64-bit system via right clicking My Computer> Properties.
Hehe, hope you can get your laptop asap, do let us know what you think upon getting it o ^^ I'm sure the speakers will blast you away hehe  laugh.gif
If you have any question on warranty registration/extension, do let us know biggrin.gif

The plastic sheet is sticked on the laptop lid (not the screen, the screen don't have protector one).... As for the cloth, its used to sleeve and cover the whole screen when not using.

Ya, i hope i can get my laptop faster also. Hope i wont be disappointed by Toshiba. smile.gif

I have a few questions here.

First of all, while i was setting up the new Qosmio F60-S531, i got to choose the windows version and i chose 64 bit. And when the recovery process from Toshiba software is done, it enters the windows and says preparing for the first time usage. And then when it enters the windows, before i can even do anything, it just start a windows that says it's configuring system and then after that reboot. Enter windows again and start configuring again and reboot again. And this loop seems like goes on forever. I think it happened at least 7 times until i shutdown the laptop. Is it the normal procedure ? Should i just let it configure and reboot as many times as it wants ? What if the loops goes on forever ?

Well, my case is kinda special cause i notice a DEAD PIXEL on the brand new machine. I did the setting up of the laptop on the spot in the shop by myself cause i have actually known the shop owner for quite sometime. When it was running the Toshiba recovery software there's no DEAD PIXEL and when it started the windows then suddenly i notice the DEAD PIXEL on the LCD. -.=" It sucks big time when the new machine i have anticipated for so long are faulty T.T
Anyone experienced this problem ?

But the shop owner says that she'll send it back to her supplier and see what can be done. I am expecting a brand new machine but not just a fix as i didnt even accepted the machine as a customer.

Disappointed, not in Toshiba, but the fact that i couldnt bring it home yesterday. Arrggghhhh !!!!!

Damn, where did my reply go  sweat.gif need to retype again LOL....
Why did you shut down while the laptop is installing all the necessary drivers?  sweat.gif
Yes, its a normal procedure, the laptop will startup and reboot each time a new, significant driver is installed... The whole process will need several hours, especially so for 64-bit OS...
The whole point of the starting up and rebooting is to save you all the trouble of having to go to the internet and download all the drivers and install them 1-by-1 o ^^

As for the dead pixel, perhaps you should wait until you have let the laptop finished installing all the drivers then only you can say whether its because of faulty machine or not...
I don't think need to return the laptop back to the supplier for the time being...
Let's just hope shutting down the laptop during the initial boot up will  not damage the laptop  hmm.gif
*
Haha. Is it ? Seems like the shop owner doesnt know much also. I shut it down because they are closing the shop already...it was way past their closing hour and since there's a dead pixel she say she'll have to send it back so she ask me just shut it down. LOL.
I always thought Dead Pixel is a hardware problem isnt it ? Does driver has got to do with it ?

They almost the same, just one can be fixed, one can't...

But since yours just bought it, should ask for 1 to 1 replacement....
*
I see. Ya, i left it at the shop and let the shop owner talk to their supplier first.
Waiting for their updates now...

That is normal. Let it restart as many time as it need. I think it is something like for every software you install, you need to restart your computer so that it function properly or whatever  la. It takes long time, I not sure how long but hours maybe. (late reply)

I see. Thanks for your reply. I doesnt mind if it's late smile.gif Appreciate it. biggrin.gif
